Whats /k/s take on 357 Sig ammo? I saw a Sig Sauer P320 on sale today, and I was wondering about it.

Any round that does not have widespread support from a military or LEAs is not worth investing in.

Personally for me, the only practical handgun caliber choices are 9mm and .45. If you need something stronger, get a rifle.

Seriously, all handgun calibers do nearly the same thing. It isn't worth the extra wear on the gun and ammo price hikes for such negligible results. Especially when you throw nerve damage in as a factor.

I'm not a fan. Not because of poor ballistic performance. Sure it kills people dead. But if you intend to use a firearm for self defense you should be shooting it a lot and 357 Sig is way expensive for zero advantage.

Especially if what you want is a P320. Get the 9mm version. Any money you save on the sale will easily be spent in your first 5 boxes of ammo.

Was there a list made of /k/ approved 45's?

Depends, I can give you some good suggestions if you tell me preferences. It's really all about your hands, preference and intended use.

In general, id like to have something for carry, as well as fun "if that makes sense"

I would like to try staying away from Glocks, mainly because I just dont care that much for a Glock.

I own a Beretta 92A1, but I almost dont wanna carry it around. But I am not against full sized hand guns either.

So, defense, target practice, and having fun in general shooting, which is what I look for in a gun.

Also I own more then the Beretta, mostly just hand down guns from family who dont want shit anymore and they know I enjoy shooting.

that's common. You'll usually see .40's and .357 versions of 9mm's on sale frequently.

Why?

Nobody fucking wants them, and rightfully so.

How do you feel about da/sa?

I'm a 9mm guy but if I had to get one .45, it would be a german p220. Sig p22x's have very good single action triggers especially with srt upgrades put in them.

Maybe a little too heavy for carry and they're pretty pricey compared to most guns.

VA State Troopers like it. That's about all I can say really. Though if I were to use a high-velocity 9mm then I'd use .38 Super since it does the same thing as .357 SIG with better capacity.

P320 can be easily converted into other calibers. I say it's worth the buy since alternate calibers are relatively cheap to buy parts for.

>single stack .45
>not a 1911
>as thick as a double stack
>german so carbon steel = rust problems
>no rail

Can't say I agree with you there bro. One .45 for me would either be a Sig Nitron Rail, a Colt Rail Gun, or an HK USP .45.

Here's Kimber.

I've had my Kimber since 1992 and never had any of these problems. I guess it also comes down to maintaining your firearms too.

or having one made in oregon, rather then new york

older kimbers are nice. Problems have arisen with their QC since 2005

I hate when people in the gun community say stuff like this.

If you've had it since 1992 and you've never fired it, that's not impressive at all.

If you've had it since 1992 and you've only fired 200 rounds out of it, also not impressive.

If you've had it since 1992, shot 500 rounds with a detailed cleaning and lubing after every 50, it also means nothing.

You have to qualify shit like this. Stuff breaks when you use it so either you haven't used it or you're full of shit and there's something you're not telling us.

So stop trying to make us imagine you've shot 12 million rounds when you haven't.

>9mm and .45

You know I've been seeing this a lot lately and it doesn't really make sense. Especially with the "all pistol cartridges do the same thing" argument behind them. If that argument were completely true the you could cut that down solely to 9mm since the only valid reason for preference of .45 auto would be the particular recoil impulse/allbility to shoot it better. So if that were the case then just let people shoot whatever the hell they want. Idk, it just irritates me because I don't have a "camp" or real preference so I end up sitting back and watching the self defense crowd and the volume shooters debate the existence of anything that isn't widely adopted and available at 15cpr
