Picked up my newest M39 yesterday. This was my first time doing business with Classic, I ordered hand select.

Numbers matching, bluing looks great, stock is nice but was fucking full of cosmoline, minimal patina.

Any other anons order M39's from classic's most recent batch?

post your mosins.

gotcha. surp 7.62x54 is scarce since san bern, ive still got about 400 rounds left but I'm hoping more will turn up soon
>>

Yeah I bought some surplus 54r and 8mm awhile ago. I'm not worried, you can still find it at gun shows even if it's 20$ more for a spam can then two years ago.
>>

Yeah, I too believe it will start turning up again once people stop panic buying and the holidays pass

Im hoping to get an m44 soon, but the only places I see that in Cali are gun shows and the prices there are like $450+ for one that's absolutely beat to shit
>>
I've wanted a mosin for so long now, but I'm in college. Do you think there will be an import of more morons in the future? Could I pick up a nugget for 80 bucks again?
>>
>>28297962
Maybe a Chinese nugget if they ever lift the trade restrictions.
>>
>>28297962

I'm willing to bet we'll never see mosins under $100 ever again. The only exception is someone who has absolutely no idea what they're selling, an estate sale or something.

>>28297938

I'd like an M44 myself, there is a numer of them on armslist for around $300 which isn't terrible but still too much IMO

Like yours, the top half of mine is painted black, but other Mosins seem to just be a wood finish. Does anyone know why some are painted black snd others are not? Mine was manfuactured in 1942 in Izhevsk, if that helps.

>>28297130
I picked up mine last week. Also a hand pick.

Pretty much as you described. Stock has embedded cosmoline in areas. Bluing is awesome, head-spacing was perfect, firing pin protrusion was perfect, and the bore was like something bought new.

I've seen quite a few non hand select M39's that are beat to hell and very few that looked decent. The vast majority of hand selects have been in great shape. Hand select sounds like a waste on other guns from Classic but it appears to be worthwhile on the M39's.
>>
>>28298306
I.....I....its...b..b..beautiful.
>>
>>28299243

Currently, Classic still has M39's, but is "out of stock" if you want the hand select option.

I think you'll probably get a beater if you order now. *shrug*

Someone who says it's a waste of $20 buy one and prove me wrong.
>>

I got a m39 that was not hand select about a week ago.

It looked just like OPs but i do think i got lucky

Get a Circle 11 M44 if you can. They're mint.
>>
>>28298771
I'll assume it has to be a sighting/accuracy thing. Kind of the same reason there's cross-hashing cut into most vent ribs and pistol slides.
>>
>>28299354

I have four 91/30's, including pre-war, war babies, and a legit PU, and they are not nearly as nice as an M39. The build quality isn't even close.

No offense, but the 91/30 isn't in the same class.
>>
>>28299474
okay point taken, I hear they're good guns, but if k98 ammo was as cheap... you'd rather go german, don't lie now.
>>
Are mosins still worth it these days? can pick one out of a crate at my lgs for 200, quite tempting especially since the ammo is almost as cheap as ak ammo where I'm at
>>
>>28297130
How are the bores on these?

I'd like to get as closed to un-issued condition as possible, and I'm not convinced these classic offerings will ever be in that nice of condition.

>>

Can't say AFA what Classic is selling now, but the bore on the hand pick I got last week was sharp and bright. For a gun made in 1942, I'd rate it Excellent+.
>>
>>28299498

A good Finnish M39 vs a good K98 starts getting into near religious argument territory.

7.62X54R is a more accurate round, vs. smoother action [usually argues WRT Ruskie stuff] vs. who has the better front sights, etc.
>>
>>28299601
I mainly just prefer to handle the k98, it's a much more ergonomic rifle imo. I know which one I'd rather take into battle.

Can't take anything away from OP though, that's a really beautiful piece.
>>
>>28299636

You said earlier you have a 91/30. Seriously, buy a Finnish M39, just for shits and giggles. You will be surprised, especially if you've never owned one.
>>
>>28297130
Consider me 100% jelly. The "hand select" I got from them on one of their earlier shipments was shit, and we won't even talk about the regular Sako...
>>
>>28297130
>>28297135
>>28297142
Almost makes me want to but one from them.

I just know the odds are I'll get fucked.

I'd honestly fork over $5-600 for one in guaranteed excellent shape.
>>
>>28299601
Why does 7.62x54R have a higher accuracy potential than 8mm Mauser?
On an unrelated note, what benefit does copper washing ammo have and does any non-surplus have it?
>>
>>28299689
I found a few decent M39s for $375 at a gun show the other day
>>
>>28299654

>Why does 7.62x54R have a higher accuracy potential than 8mm Mauser?

Google is your friend.
>>
>>28299748
Spam cans are gone.

You have to buy slavshit commercial ammo now.

http://www.sgammo.com/catalog/rifle-ammo-sale/762x54r-ammo
>>
>>28299601
The mauser is smoother, stronger, and safer.

Accuracy is a toss up. Frankly, the mauser is better, but it's null since shooter K98s are 1k rifles now.
>>
>>28299748

Academy has non-corrosive 360 round spam cans for $169. $149 when on sale.

There is a place here where you can get the surplus corossive Ruskie stuff in 440 round cans for $119 regular price, $99 on sale.

Your results may vary.
>>
>>28299772

>safer

555-come on now
>>
>>28299756
I can't find any conclusive info saying that one is better than the other
>>
>>28299786
Mauser bolts have a provision to vent case-blowouts away from the user, and a safety lug.
>>
>>28299772
>stronger
>more accurate
Source on that, I always hear people praising the Ross, K31 and M39 for being the most accurate milsurp
And why do you say the K98 is stronger than the M39?
Just curious.

>>28299758
>>28299776

The M39 has a much higher quality barrel compared to a 91/30 hence the better accuracy, they also have a beefier stock and stronger barrel bands.

When it comes to the Ballistol/Water mix for corrosive ammo, can I use something else to substitute the Ballistol? Ballistol is not sold in my area and I'm too much of a lazy fuck to order some online.

They put it on sale for $149 from time to time.

If you're anywhere near the ATL, Adventure Outdoors still has 440 round spam cans of corrosive stuff, and they do put it on sale for $99 from time to time.

I was in there on Black Friday, it was on sale, and they had pallets full of it.
>>
>>28299863
Compared to the 91/30 yeah but why would it be less accurate than the K98?
>>
>>28299825
I said accuracy is toss up.

Mauser bolts are stronger because of the lug design and the extra one, I'm no real expert though. It's common knowledge.

>>
why are mosin prices getting so high?
I went to a gun show, the CHEAPEST one was $160 and it was a damn mess
there were guns from 350-500 that were in acceptable shape (the 500 was almost as nice as mine)
but nothing reasonable
Also the 440 spam cans were going for 190-250
what the shit?
>>
>>28300067
The one I got was perfect. Sorry your experience was different.

Classic usually follows up via email WRT your satisfaction with the purchase. They did with me, several times. Let me know what their response was.
>>
>>28299772
Thankfully you can get south american contract mausers for a quarter of that.
>>
>>28300100
Yeah the spam cans are getting really ridiculous, I bought a 880rnd crate for only $200 last year now it's doubled
>>
>>28300100
everyone bought up lots of nuggets. there is now a higher demand for them and the ammo. all that stuff is surplus so the supply is limited and will only go down. price goes up.
>>
>>28300173
Dang, I literally ordered a crate yesterday. It was $135 a tin, so $270 plus shipping, which was 37.50.

Grand total of 307.50 for 880 rds, and the crate, and a can opener.

They took it back and sent me a better replacement. The bore on this rifle looks perfect, however, the stock is kinda plain compared to that last rifle. I was just pissed that a rifle with a Crack like that ever made it into a box.
>>
>>28300200
Bought a crate from bud's about a month and a half ago for 260 shipped
>>
>>28300233

That looks like a nice M39. If the bore is perfect, there ain't much else to say.
>>
Don't get me wrong, I spent $150 on a 440 round
and $320 on a 870 round copper/lead brass case
I know it can be had cheaper, I just haven't seen it lately
>>
>>28300067
>>28300233

So a major company that ships thousands of rifles every year, has shipped thousands of M39's in the last year, slipped up and sent you a cracked stock, then they replaced it and sent you a beautiful rifle, yet you are still salty about it? I mean I know there are some horror stories about classic but in your case, I think you should quit bitching.
>>
>>28299943

I dont think it really is, difficult to compare with 70+ year old guns in varying condition. Perhaps the 8mm round has better ballistics, honestly I have no idea. I've gotten my M39 consistently 2 MOA at 100 yards on irons. Could be capable of 1 MOA if you're a real crack shot.
>>
>>28300044

Checked. Sakos seem to have really shitty bluing on them. A sexy stock is awesome but the lack of bluing kind of ruins it for me. Nice rifle nonetheless.
>>
>>28299896

Just buy ballistol its awesome for cleaning, or just to keep it lubed up. You could use CLP or soap and water for cleaning if you're that reluctant to buy it. I'm fairly certian they sell Ballistol at Walmart so I dont know how you cant find it.
>>
>>28300483
Yes, how dare someone be dissatisfied that, even after paying extra for quality, they get a total turd and have to deal with getting it replaced.

He should clearly be grateful they even deigned to let him open his wallet to begin with.
>>
>>28300602

At least they replaced it, firearms sales are final, exchanges usually dont happen. Again, they process thousands of rifles and this is milsurp were talking about here.

How dare they let one fall through the cracks and then make it right with the buyer.

>this asspained over some firearms dealer

dont fucking buy from them then, more milsurp for the rest of us
>>
>>28300696
I won't. I don't tend to buy sight-unseen.

Holy shit ClassicIDF out in full force

Take your confirmation bias and get the fuck out. Its well established that classic is shady as fuck when it comes to their "hand selecting"

Just because you got lucky doesn't excuse the garbage they have been sending out to people

>buh-buh-sometimes even hand selects slip through the cracks!

Here's an idea: if you can't actually hand select the guns, don't offer a hand select option
