Better QA, mostly. Dealing with BCM is also more pleasant then PSA.

PSA had to claw their way out of the budget segment with the Premium line and their prices are a result of that incremental search for a place in the saturated AR market. Long after their reputation was trashed by their earlier offerings (now Freedom and PTAC lines) you can now get a decent 5.56 upper or rifle from them.
BCM started out right with Mil-Spec+ rifles and uppers when the market was flooded with commercial offerings from other companies that were poor quality and used sub-standard components. They had a bang-up marketing department and endorsements from the right folk. Their prices reflect the status they earned even if it may not be as competitive now.
I used to recommend Colt all the time for starter ARs, but the market has caught up to them as well where a better rifle can be had for less money. However, their rifles still sell well because of the Colt name, much like BCMs do.
If people are buying your $600 rifle for $900 or, why lower the price?

Instead of batch testing their barrels, they test every barrel individually. The same goes for their bolts.
It's a matter of quality vs quantity
If BCM wanted to make a fat load of shitty rifles they could do that all day everyday. Instead, they chose to build a dedicated customer base by supplying tested and trusted products. There is a lot of time and effort that goes into their rifles. Of course they profit on them, but it's the attention to detail that's reflected in the price as well.
