I have neither seen a comms thread in a while, or seen one combined with earpro, so I thought I'd make one
I'm looking for a pair of earpro to rule them all! From operating operationally in Syria, to skeet shooting, and I might be able to get a pair of ComTac III's pretty cheaply. Unfortunately the one's I'm looking at have the Arc rail attachments and as I don't have nor do I want a suitable helmet, is there anyway to get the headband back? I've searched around for a spare one but as it's such a generic search term, I'm struggling somewhat.
Also, does anyone have any experience with British PRRs? Looking to get a radio that'll communicate with a small group within fairly close proximity, but have a low chance of being intercepted and more importantly be able to penetrate a lot of barriers. They seem to fit the bill but any advice?
Unless you're issued a radio, just buy a peltor tac 6s. you won't be using a radio, no matter how badly you want to look like someone who does.
I'm betting you could get a cheaper pair of peltors and put the comtacs on there instead with a bit of ingenuity. the electronic bits are the expensive parts after all

YPG, I'm not getting issued shit lol, but thanks for the recommendation

That might be an idea. Although I'm alright at soldering, I don't have a clue what I'd be doing tho
Is the Baofeng UV5 actually any good? Or is it just a meme?
>>28290544
It works just fine.
>>28290559
If I spend a hit more will there be any noticeable jump in quality?
And advice on antennae?
>>28288521
I have dual channel sordins, so I can plug into a bird and my radio, pretty sure it doesn't get any better really.
>>28288782
I meant you take the whole comtac assembly as is and stick it onto the headband, not take it apart and solder the innards to the other one
>>28290634
And pro tip: If you're going to wear a helmet, remove the normal crown pad and replace it with two oval pads running perpendicular so you have a gap for the headband and you won't get a headache like a cherry fuck.
I have dual comm Peltor ACHs, they are great. I use them with my Baofeng, and the quality is fine, I guess.
I use them at work for driving open hatched vehicles, and if I ever operate hard enough to be issued a 152 I will have the PTT for them.
Just buy a Baofeng UV__. Unless you are a licensed HAM operator, there's no reason to buy anything else, because you probably won't use it to full capability. Buy two so you troubleshoot them, and also so you can give one to someone else to communicate with

Is that a cut ACH?
Why would you waste money on an Ops Core suspension when the TW camfit is cheaper and better?
>>28290634
I've heard good things about the Sordins, but I've also heard that the Comtacs have a better noise reduction and 3d positioning
>>28290658
Ah! That would make a lot more sense lol!
>>28290695
>the quality is fine, I guess
What makes you say that?
>>28290784
It's a cut MICH 2000 that I got for $100.
Is the camfit better? The ops core seemed nicer but I had no way to compare them.

The peltors have fantastic audio replication technology, so you know the mics and speakers are good quality overall, but honestly radio communications don't have phenomenal audio quality in the first place. I was not impressed with the quality or volume of the audio input from the radio.
Yes, I am using an amplified PTT
>>28290835
Not bad I guess. I have used both, and the ops core creeps me out. It feels really rickety like I'm wearing a suspension made for a construction hard-hat instead of a ballistic helmet. The Camfit is really rock solid and it's comfortable.
I use an Ops Core H-Nape with my MICH, I have no problem with it, I like the straps and quick adjust sliders a lot.
>>28290804
I've used both in combat, and really I didn't have a preference
>>28290835
At least you don't have your helmet pads all retarded like most civilians.
>>28290877
Are you talking for a Harris/152 or a Baofang? I've never had issues with a 152 or an Asip
>>28290907
Not actually a civilian, but submarines don't really deal with this genre
>>28290907
Baofeng. Haven't ran my comtacs through SINCGARS for any length of time to speak intelligently, but I'm sure they would sound fine
>>28290877
I like the ops core so far, holds it snug on my head with zero movement. I'm used to the construction helmet feel as both boats I've been in have been in the yards
what electronic earpros allow you to listen to a mp3 while shooting?
>>28291029
Pretty much anything, you just need the right adapter.
>>28291029
anything that has a 1/4" jack which happens to be a lot of electronic earpro. Impact Sport, Sordin Supreme, etc
>>28291082
sorry, 1/8" jack not 1/4"
