i shot it once on a range. avoid it at all costs.
>>
>>28283635
really? did it seem cheaply made? unreliable?
>>
>>28283635
cheap doesn't even begin to cover it, but it was literally the worst trigger i have ever touched.
to be fair, i wasn't really expecting it to blow up in my hands just because it seemed like it was forged ages ago (but not expecting to hit anything was part of the deal).
even the polish p83 was better, but that's just what i heard, didn't experienced.

anyone else

Longest and heaviest trigger I've ever used. I wouldn't carry it.

These guns are awesome as historical relics. They are even fun to shoot at the range. But don't be a fucking hipster and conceal carry this shit. It's a fucking antique.

Its not bad.

If you want a carry gun but don't want a Hipoint by all means try it out. The trigger and sights are kinda meh but with good shot placement its not bad. I found the trigger to be a bit long.

Just 9x18 is kind of weak. its closest counterpart is the .380 I believe.

A better option is a CZ compact.

If its what you can afford try it first. I'd rather have a CZ or compact Glock.

9x18 is somewhere between 9x17 (.380) and 9x19 (9mm Luger/Parabellum/NATO) in their standard loading. Hornady's 94gr flex tip JHP's have been shown to penetrate 15" though, so that's cool.

They make decent CC weapons if you get some better ammo. Buffalo Bore's hard cast rounds are a good choice, and give you the extra boost in penetration you'll need to make up for 9x18's inherent weaknesses. Stuff's pricey though.

Everyone saying shit trigger is complaining that the DA pull is around 20-22 pounds but the SA pull is only about 5-7 pounds. Yeah it's rough but it's not terrible considering these things are ~$200 and C&R eligible.

I like mine, it's small, it's weighty, and it fits my palm well. I've hit a plate at 100 yards with it so I feel happy with my purchase.

You can always just get another handgun for cheap if you don't like it.

Spring packs exist as well

I'd say go for it

I own one, few things I've learned about it.

If you've the opportunity to actually get 'hands on' with one before you buy one [i.e. fingerfuck one at a gun store before buying it better priced online] do so. The p-64 specifically is a -very- small gun meant to fit slav conscript's hands. I'm a glove size 7, and my hand uses -every- inch of that grip. I've not gotten hands on with a mak, but I can not imagine they are much larger.

The guns are snappy, 9x18 is the largest caliber that the Russians of all people 'deemed safe' to be fired in a straight blowback pistol design. Couple that with them being tiny and relatively light weight in terms of slide mass, and you get recoil. Not unmanagable mind you, hell not even bad to fire in a situation when you might need to use the firearm to protect yourself, but don't bring 500rds to the range and expect to leave happy.

Trigger, on DA is fucking abysmal. 22lb pull and long as a freight train is -not- an exaggeration. However that is not 'without reason'. Maks never had a safety in their design, and the polish put one there for fuckall know's reason. I'm not 100% sure on the mak, but the p-64 is 'drop safe' as it has a rebounding hammer and interlock with the trigger to prevent it from being drop fired. These things were designed to be carried safety off [or just not there in the first place] with one in the chamber, your safety -is- that massively long and hard trigger pull, and the rest of the mag/subsequent mag/rounds being fired off the surprisingly not terrible SA trigger pull. [I've felt worse SA triggers on "new CC guns, S&W comes to mind.] And now we can argue about 'you shouldn't have to miss/shitshot with a bad DA to get to good trigger arguments, so on so on.

The mag release is, an indented heel release and is pretty terrible, however with a bit of practice you can get it down pretty fast. It's no 'high speed low drag' competition 1911, or whatever the fuck, but it's serviceable.

OP here, thank you for your in depth review, i think this actually persuades me to get it. i mostly want it as a piece of history, and maybe some fun at the range every once in a while. i was hoping it would make a good carry gun too, but your comment about the grip being small is a good eye opener, i forgot to think about that. appreciate your input sir.

my russian mak wants some company at the range so i might have to listen

No problem. All and all it is my carry piece. It fits my hand and is more than manageable when firing. I'm not a large person, and it conceals on me very well. Hell I just carry it in a OWB 90% of the time with a T-shirt and don't print.

However I boil it down like this.

It's sub $300, there is a -reason- that it was a service pistol in comblock countries for as long as it was. It's military rugged. What other small CC Pistol am I going to find that is metal frame that isn't some gucci 1911/ or a ppk which fires an even smaller caliber.

It's small, it's fun, you defiantly know you're firing a gun with each trigger pull, it's absurdly accurate for it's tiny barrel length due to, as you know, a stationary barrel/blowback over cam'd locking barrel in most everything else.

tl;dr it's more fun than other things I can think to drop $250 on.
