Also, Aljubarrota was a sort of pre-Agincourt, except better. And the battlefield is very, very well preserved, unlike any other case of an "english formation". It's a pity it's not better known.

They were going to assassinate Mugabe but called it off 20 minutes before the bomb was to go off. Turns out one of the Lead Political Officers was a turncoat and feeding information to the British for years who in turn relayed it to Mugage. That's how they found out that the Rhodesians had placed explosives in a microphone on Mugabe's podium. The ZANU removed all the microphones and Mugabe used a Megaphone. This was all after Mugabe had (through coercion, systematic rape, murder and torture) one the election in Rhodesia.

Two groups of Austrians coming from different oparts of their then-huge Empire (and speaking different languages) come near the Turish lines. SOldiers of one group "liberate" some supplies from teh other group, get discovered, yell "Turks! Turks!" to create some confusion to help get away. Second group actually believes it's a Turkish attack and starts panicking, opens fre blindly in all directions. First group ALSO thinks it's a Turkish attack (remembenr, different languages, no "STOP SHOTING AT US YOU MORONS!" worked here) and starts shooting at second group.Second group returns fire. Shit escalates. Next morning, Turkish scouts atracted by the noise discover two self-defeated Austrian armies. Turkish army (not yet in the area) double times to actually move in to claim the zone. Hilarity ensues.

didnt the Austrian Emperor get rekt in that since his royal carriage got flipped over by thousands of his retreating men, running from themselves?
>>
>>28278479
Interesting, though back then it was much more common to know 4-5 different languages since nation states were so prevalent and your ruler one day might speak a different language than your ruler next week. Though I imagine the "fog of war" was a bigger factor than simply not knowing what the other side was saying.

>>
>>28278432
No, really. Maybe because I studied it as story, without jokes. Care to share?
Also Aljubarrota was "Crezy II, but this time with crossbows" (even though the Brits try to claim it was their archers - actually it was their commander, who old teh Portuguese commander how to place the crosbowmen, who were the ones who actually did the job. Again. Just like in Atoleiros).

Read the goddamn file name, you autist.

Aljubarrota had both types of missile troops, longbowmen (english) and crossbowmen (portuguese), in two wings. plus, the 200 or so english archers, would hardly be enough to do anything. Regardless, the positioning was everything, along with the obstacles.
As Fernão Lopes said, (not his exact quote, but close) "the terrain was very plain, balanced, and clear of obstacles... And if it wasn't so, the fault lies with those that did not notice"
>>
>>28278569

>>
>>28278601
Gross overconfidence. Just like this one:
Pity there's no Wikipedia table of the First Battle of Bir El Gubi, the time Britain managed to lose to Italy in WW2. So, greentext time
>north of Africa, Operation Compass in progress
>strongpoint of Italian resistence
>usual Italian forces were poorly led, poorly trained, poorly equiped, with low morale; predictably surrender-prone
>THIS particular pocket was well entrenched, well equiped, well led, troops were a mix of Ariete (the best of the Italian army) and volunteers with something to prove (as they actually had to figfht their own HQ to be granted the permission to be there); all of them shouting for British blood
>Commonwealth troops (Australia and New Zealand) engage them, get repeled with some loses
>British decide to attack
>Southerns warn them "those pastas aren't exactly ready to mass-cry "chi arrendiamo", pals!"
>Britons ignore them
>English attack plan is, LITERALLY, to charge in a wide line abreast formation, making a lot of noise and allowing to be clearly seen, to "scare the Italians into suerrendering"
>predictable lack of Italian cooperation with the British plan
>40+ tanks loss in very short time
Pffffft.
Also,
>other Allied forces have no diffculty winning the SECOND Battle of Bir El Gubi the following day, anyway
>>

Adrian Carton De Wiart, English officer part of the British military mission to Poland

>On 27 July 1920, Carton de Wiart was appointed an Aide-de-camp to the King, and brevetted to colonel.[28] He was active in August 1920, when the Red Army were at the gates of Warsaw. While out on his observation train, he was attacked by a group of Red cavalry, and fought them off with his revolver from the footplate of his train, at one point falling on the track and re-boarding quickly.
