Bascily every village has a memorial for the people who died from that village in WW1.
WW2 memorials are rare

USS South Dakota is pretty neat just being an outline with some parts of the original ship.
Pretty different compared to just mooring the ship in a port
kind of standart but imo the walls of names are the most powerfull memorials
>>28277304
Well moreover how would you get a ship of that size up to S. Dakota anyway?
>>28277279
I guess ISIS is just fighting for there freedom too.
For the Bavarians that died in the manny wars against Russia. its simple but i like it

Yeah this is a German war memorial from WWII near the american Military cemetery at St. James. Visited them both on the same day, very different feel, American one is all sunlight and white crosses and marching music, this one is a crypt with plaques and niches.

Inside.
As well as German soldiers, a lot of "guest workers" brought along by the Germans and killed are buried there so you have Jewish, Korean, Russian names mixed in as well as the German ones.
Every single little village has a cross beside the church with a list of dead from WWI, then a smaller list of WWII dead tacked on and occasionally a single name for Argelia or Indochina tagged on at the very bottom.
>>28277450
It's strange how different cultures honor their dead.

The definitions of these words are pretty well known.
People that the US likes are freedom fighters. People the US doesn't like are terrorists.

Well the German one was set up in the 60s, once things had cooled off and they were allowed to search for the bodies and identify them, while the American one dates from the end of the war and is much more triumphant in outlook
"Menen gate", place in Belgium close to Passchendaele etc. carved full of names of fallen soldiers of WW1. Since the ending in 1918, every single day there is a tribute ( The Last Post). They haven't skipped a day, except when captured by the germans in WW2
