It doesn't need to be "Salvaged" just Duracoat it and shoot it as is. Just use light loads until it works all the corrosion off.

>>
>>28273995
See that pitting on the barrel, literally everywhere? That is structural damage. You put anything in there that's comparable to a standard load, you're spinning the wheel to a very dangerous game of roulette.

Here's my advice: Soak it in naval jelly to remove all the rust. Reblue it, then hang it on the wall. That's all it's good for now.
>>
Sweet Jesus, that barrel is fucked.
>>
>>28273995
Try using electrolysis to recover a lot of the metals. There was a guy that did that with a 1911 a while back and it was a great success. Here's the link to the first video:

OP if you shoot that barrel as is, you're likely to eat shrapnel. DO NOT SHOOT IT!

Barrel is fine. just port it by drilling a relief hole 3 inches from either end. Then use a vice to crimp one end. insert a steel ball slightly smaller then the diameter of the barrel and fill the rest with black powder. Crimp the other end in a vice and insert a piece of cannon fuse into the relief port and light it. Then aim it down range at target. Profit.

I'm looking for a full size handgun in 9mm. I've had bad experiences with polymer frames and would thus prefer metal. Thing is, my budget is also fairly limited.

I was thinking about it more and wouldn't it depend on lots of factors? like barrel profile, length, and ammo being shot?
Am I safe to assume its where ever the maximum powder burn occurs, wherever that would be?
or does that usually not happen in the barrel and it burns in the muzzle flash?

What are you supposed to do about light rusting of a barrel? I've got an old bolt action .22 with a bit of rust from sitting around in a valley (dads old gun). It's nowhere near OPs, but I don't really know what to do with it.
>>
>>28276629
Oil and scrub with a brass brush. However, once something begins rusting, it never really goes away- it's a constant battle of upkeep and scrubbing off any new rust that appears.
>>
Trying to restore my grandpas old shotgun, it's a coast to coast mossberg 500 clone, does it have full parts commonality with regular mossberg 500 parts? Would I have to get retro mossberg parts for it? The only thing really wrong with it is corrosion but if parts of it are too far gone to save even with electrolysis, I want a backup plan
>>
>>28274064
This was pretty fucking cool.
>>
>>28276644
Alright... I'll Brass brush, oil. I can do that. Dad's got an old Damascus steel double barrel he's afraid to fix, since there could be rusting between the layers in the barrel. It doesn't look bad (no visible rust on the outside), but I guess it's a "you never know" thing. Dunno what year/make it is. Grandpas old shotgun... I kinda wish he'd take a stab at it regardless.
>>
>>28277088
You could always load it up with Kent Cartridge/Gamebore Old English low power rounds.
>>
>>28277088
make sure you oil first, then brass brush. The wet sanding action will take off rust while damaging any finish left

If I already have striker fired handguns would it be pointless to look into the HK LEM (double action only)?

I've tried HK's da/sa with a decocker. The long trigger pull and reset EVEN during single action mode sucks so much compared to the Sigs I've tried. Sig SRT blows the HK da/sa out of the water for me personally but heard HK LEM is the way to go anyway. But I have multiple glocks and so I feel like there is no point to getting HK LEM

Found mine in a pawn shop. "Enfield, Unknown caliber- $200". That was a good day.
They're not being sold from primary sources anymore, so check gunbroker and LGS. Try and get something parts matching for a more accurate rifle, but it's not that big a deal. Biggest con is the mag- the rifles are old, so some of the mags have lost tension. A PITA because original replacements are gone, and the commercial ones aren't very good. If you're buying in person, make sure the feed lips aren't fuckled.

Swung by a pawn shop and saw a Para-Ordnance Black Ops 1911 for $645, even though it's MSRP is $1245. Finger fucked the shit out of it, didn't see any damage or anything else wrong with it except for what appeared to be a little pitting on the inside of the chamber end of the barrel. Is there something wrong with it, or do these guys not know what they're selling?

Pic related, it's the same type and model. Some of the Black Ops pistols have a dumb winged skull thing on the right side of the slide, the one in question does not.

About the only thing you can do is send it to a barrel who will bore it out and put a rifled liner in it. People do that all the time in the N-SSA and it works beautifully. A machinist/barrel maker named Robert Hoyt in Pennsylvania is who I'd recommend, he made the complete new steel barrel on my otherwise original 1864 shooter.

No, but I can sum it up pretty quick.
Two types chambered in 7.62x51 to be aware of, the 2A and 2a1. Differences are minimal, but 2As are generally a little more beat up due to being older and extensively used in the Indo-Pakistan War, and also use a few more surplus .303 Enfield pieces.

You want as many numbers as you can get to match, especially the bolt, barrel/receiver, and nose cap. This will ensure a more accurate rifle, as the guns were "tuned" to float the barrel correctly with it's original cap.

Many Ishapores will come with copper wire wrapped around the barrel and stock. It's often written off as a stock repair, but was actually issued that way on many rifles as a reinforcement for shooting rifle grenades.

As always, check the bore's rifling and crown- doesn't matter how many numbers match, it won't shoot straight with a sewer pipe for a barrel.

Try and make sure the stock band still holds the stock tightly. Don't want the butt loose.

Inspect the mags, making sure the feed lips are still good. Replacements are a bitch and a half to get a hold of, and expensive.

Like a lot of milsurp, they were ridiculously cheap a few years ago. They go for $400ish these days.

I have a feeling there isn't a definite answer here.
Things that should affect how loud the sound is:

>size of plate

>topography of the shooting area, including behind you and behind the target
>distance obviously
>shape and overall construction of the plate

This all being said, I am pretty sure I've seen videos of people getting pings at 1000m+ and the caliber was realfuckingnato or .50bmg.

I blindly stumbled across a lightning deal on amazon for a TRS-25 for $62 with free shipping so I ordered it.
Good deal or just a cheap piece of crap I'll be sorry I bought?

Yes I love mine

They work.

Why is it bad to cowboy the cylinder on a revolver?
>>
>>28284098
>cowboy the cylinder
Meaning?
>>
>>28283976

Nothing wrong with durr hunting grade red dots on hobby rifles.
>>
>>28284098
wears out (and will break) the locking bolt on your revolver. It wont hurt guns with smaller cylinders as much as ones with big cylinders because the locking bolts are pretty much the same size
>>
>>28275288
A used S&W 5906 or similar should be right up your alley. I still see them for well under 400 all the time. They a solid, easy shooting pistols. They will be a little large but to go smaller you may have to save more.
>>
>>28284102
slinging the cylinder shut rather than manually closing it with your hand
>>
>>28284468
Oh yeah, that's dumb as fuck to do. With ANY size revolver.

I wonder if top-breaks have similar issues if you flip them closed.
>>
>>28283325
If you just want a stock carbine? Yes, they're well made ARs.
If you intend to buy it and then swap out stock, handguard, grip, etc. you could just as easily build one for less. Complete run of the mill carbines are only worth it if they stay pretty much out of the box imo, otherwise they don't really offer anything you couldn't do for less on your own.

Does anyone happen to know the weight of the FMJ jacket for WPA 9x18 mak compared to the weight of the rest of the bullet?

Not beyond other Enfields, the Indians made them a bit loose, but as long as they pass a go/no-go test they're safe to shoot

what is /k/'s bump limit?

So, I am going to build a smoothbore matchlock using 0.5" T-304 stainless steel pipe (wall thickness 0.15", inside diameter 0.546")

The problem is the only plug I can find is a 0.5" threaded plug, leaving .046" gap.

Would off the shelf epoxy/cold weld be sufficient for sealing this gap?

Is a revolver a bad first fun? I'd love a M1895
>>
>>28286220
Revolvers aren't bad for a first gun. I'd still recommend a .22 for cheap ammo and low recoil, though.
M1895 would be pretty bad for a first gun. Honestly, it's just a pretty bad gun all around, not worth it unless you're a collector
>>
>>28286278
Yeah I mainly wanted an M1895 for the history behind it. Any .22 revolvers youd recommend?
>>
>>28286653
Heritage Rough Riders are piss cheap, but work. SA only, though.
There are some used Rugers and the like floating around, but a bit expensive for what they are
>>
Recently got my first AR here. Is it normal for there to be some play/wiggle room between the upper and lower?
>>
>>28286914
Yes. Well, at least it's not abnormal.
Pretty common with lower tier. Pretty common with mix-n-match builds too.

High dollar builders will make sure it's tight.
Some lowers have an integral adjustment for tightening it.

You can also use an accu-wedge if it bothers you. No accuracy improvement will be found, but it won't rattle.

Ok, so this is my first(ish) post here on /k/ and i have an issue here with a part i ordered for my M1A, a rail mount for the front of my weapon os just a cunt hair off where the screws should line up. I have since gotten my money back for the part, but i was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for fiddle fucking this thing into place
>>
I've been looking at getting my first handgun (have a few bolt-action rifles) and I'm eyeing the SIG P938.

Is gud? I've shot it a few times at the range and seemed to do well with it and I've seen local gun stores selling it for about $630.

make one of the holes in the stock bigger so you can tighten it down
>>
>>28289400
>>28290516
do that if it's an unthreaded plastic hole, if it's got a metal escutcheon in there then screw in one of the screws then get a nut and bolt a size smaller and use that through the hole that's off. you should be able to set the nut in the rail slot so it won't interfere with anything. alternatively you could drill the threads out of one of the holes and use the same size bolts, just threaded into a nut rather than the rail.

I have a converted Saiga. It has the front handguard retainer that uses screws to clamp down, instead of the normal AK handguard retainer that's attached to the barrel. Can I use any AK surplus stock set? I've been wanting to replace the plain black with wood for awhile, I see surplus stocks come and go (Romanian/Polish, etc), just want to make sure they'll fit before I do.

Also, are Polish stocks Warsaw Length or NATO length? I feel like I should already know the answer given the location of the former, but still worth asking
>>
>>28290858
Should. The black hand guard looks about the same as the wooden one, and isn't the long stock Saiga handguard? If so, then it will fit.
Polish furniture is Warsaw length
