Also, China doesnt need to match US spending to get the stuff their need. They do not have to enforce a global empire like the US and have over 700 bases around the world. All they need is to spend on dominating asia pacific and be larger and better than all asian militaries combined, as well as being able to overpower whatever the US can send against them whilst still having enough forces to suppress both Russia and Iran, as well as to deal with ISIS and your own Saudi goatfucker friends that keep shitting your legs no matter how much Abrams you sell them.
While the US spending is a sign of imperial overstretch, China's spending is focussed in pushing the US out of Asia. Concerted with a strengthening and very aggressive Russia and an unbroken Iran, the US will face hotspots across the whole world, while the Europeans, who could have helped out a bit, are suiciding themselves via multiculturalism and refugees.

They are never going to achieve this though. China's only advantage over anyone is their large population and successful industrialization. Now that other Asian countries, apart from Japan and Korean, are starting to industrialize it is nothing but downhill for Chinese influence in Asia.
The era of 1-2 superpowers in the world is done, we are moving back to a multipolar world with multiple power blocks. If ASEAN region can sort out their issues then they can counter Chinese influence quite easily with support from Japan and USA.
