To provide a more natural angle for your hand to grip the weapon by. The handstop is there so you return the action to battery.
Shotguns in general are pretty superfluous, unless your looking to take out a lock or a bird out of the sky.
Though I admit I do laugh at three gun matches watching shotguns shit the bed. Most are not designed for the rates of fire.

youll nigas b dum faggots, that hand stop is for your thumb, it allows fof easy pump operation, instead of actually having to fully grip the handpiece you can just lightly grip it and allow your thumb to do the work, there is also a hand stop on the bottom of the piece for pulling it back, instead of needing a full grip on the handpiece you can just use your fingers if necessary.
this particular mod actually enables you to cycle the shotgun way faster and smoother.
it basically just gives you something to pull and push on instead of having to rely solely on a tight grip on the piece.
