So /k/, I posted a thingy here last week asking for any info on getting an MI-6 working that came from Chernobyl. Some of you suggested I just go and buy one for dirt fucking cheap from the slavs. Well, I found one. So who wants to join me on a quest to get the /k/ copter working?

its cool to dream but be real OP. /k/ cant even decide on its favorite color much less do something of this caliber
>>
>>28263600
Its been sitting in a field since 2002. The reason for that is that the flight safety certification has been cancelled in Russia since 2002. That's the RUSSIANS said this old piece of shit is to dangerous to fly.

Hell the fucking tail rotor blades are made out of WOOD. You would have to cast new ones from composites (usually alloy core with honeycomb carbon fiber) even then blades strong enough for this thing would cost almost what ? Like 50k for a one off set ?

Then you have to work the engines back D-25V turbo shafts. The company that made them Soloviev has changed names several times but now exists as Aviadvigatel. They are the only ones that have to tooling to service this unique 5 blade fan engine.

Then comes the fucking fuel. This machine was made in a time when gas didn't really cost anything since everything was provided by the state. The fucking helicopter weighs 60,000 pounds and takes about 15,000 pounds of fuel which is about 2,000 gallons of gasoline each time you fly. Even that nets you a range of only 374 miles on full load (90,000 fucking pounds) and a service ceiling of 15,000 feet.

Now imagine this thing taking off? The backwash and sound would be absolutely insane. Only a few civilian airfields on earth would allow this monstrosity to land. Hell the weight of it alone might cause most concrete helipads to crack.

Your looking at bare minimum $500,000 dollars just to get this thing airborne and that's assuming the engine refurbish is 200k which is a very low estimate I am hoping the rest of the air frame doesn't need any work and we both know that that't not true either.

I think you're asking for a life of pain if you would ever consider getting something of that size and complexity.

Just look at the cockpit. Do you realize how much trouble and bullshit is involved in getting sensors and shit to work correctly and reliably? This why a certain few people get paid a shitload to work on this type of shit. Even with a circuit schematic, you're going to be knee deep in the shit
>>
>>28263624
>just 150k

the shell is 150, but renovating it could easily cost 10 times that amount when you consider engine rebuilds, structural repairs, replacement rotors, paint, electrical work, hydraulic work

Yes you can probably do most of it yourself, but its still going to cost alot. Electronics and engine work need specialists, period. An engine rebuild on something of that size can go for about 100-200k

Alright anon, I'll put it short for you: some materials hold radiation really well. Guess what? Helicopters have some of those materials. Walking into a helicopter that has been to chernobyl during the first operations means getting cancer.

There is a reason they've all been abandoned into a field. They're fucking traps.

This shit is literally impossible and let me tell you why, aside from what everyone else has said above ^

First, ultimately if you want to restore it youre going to have to FIND a WILLING supply chain (which is going to be paramilitary guys from the other side of the world) to import huge parts into the United States and special airframe specific tools that pre date the first personal computer ever created all while affording it.

Second, no. To have that kind of airframe sitting around for 40+ years without routine calender inspections done (semiannual corrosion, nondestructive airframe inspections, rework of the flight critical components like main rotor blades and the tail pylon) etc, obviously you've never worked on an aircraft like that before. The main and tail rotors need to be properly tracked so the vibes wont toss you out of the seat and flip the bird on its side because you need special equipment to measure and adjust those motherfuckers. Plus, youre going to need a lot of support equipment to handle and remove and replace those parts, aka good luck finding a crane and a blade handler if you dont want to walk a 400 pound component off of the top of the aircraft. Flight control rigging kits and the like which is going to cost a LOT of money to find that are still calibrated and not bent to shit.

Third, youre going to have to translate thousands of pages of maintenance publications which are probably FOUO and classified so youre gonna have to translate some shit ass number station for a couple of decades in order to piece together enough information to not shit your retarded pants the first time you try to buff a dent out of the dorsal fins and then cry because you wasted 100k on fiberglass and aluminum waste.

But all the while , good luck living out your 16 year old CoD fetishes.

It's just a fact of life that aircraft are expensive as fuck.

A Cessna 150 (a car analogy would be the Honda Civic) from the 1970s runs around $30k to $40k. And this is a tiny little plane that can barely seat two and has a range that most economy cars can beat.

I know it looks like.... well it's main purpose or getting people from A to B. But with a bit of modernizing, some sexy looking carpet or some type of new floor and two stripper poles. Dress it up to look real sexy inside. Also are you sure that's the right helicopter? Seems too small to be the Hook.
