Is this shit made of cardboard?

Why? Why would they make a clip out of paper? I don't get it.

It was meant to be disposable.

Disposable, cheap, and strong enough.
>>

It's meant to be thrown away after one use and holds bullets as good as anything else. Sorry 1930's military planners didn't take into account what collectors feelings would be 70 years down the road.

Fuck off. A single strip of metal is way easier to make and way better than this crap.

There's no excuse other than being mountainous Jewish.

It was intended to be biodegradable, so as to be discarded and forgotten on the battlefield.

So what you're saying is that you've literally never seen a clip before? Almost all of them are two pieces of metal.

You know, they make new production ones that aren't made out of cardboard, right?

All clips (this one here is actually called a "loading frame" since it's quite obviously not a clip) were meant to be disposable. Could someone show a source how this cardboard thingy is actually cheaper than a metal strip or meant to be biodegradable? Is it actually better in cold weather?
>>
>>28246099
The whole problem with the cardboard one is that the metal tabs wear out quickly. They won't wear out on this plastic one, but they won't have the initial retention that you get on the cardboard ones. If you can find the cardboard ones, you're going to pay more than $25 then add shipping.

I suppose its nice that it keeps the rounds better and is easier to load than some spring pressure clips.

The Romanian 8mm clips you get will take off your finger nail they're so stiff.
>>
>>28246669
As far as I know it was for a matter of disposability: original ones are becoming more and more rare because they used to burn used ones instead of repurposing them. Another factor is that the Swiss army outsources production of ammunition and stuff like that to civilian enterprises: having to keep making clips kept some contracts going.

Plus there is the fact that the Swiss tend to overdesign a lot when it comes to firearms. A perfect example would be the straight-pull bolt in the Schmidt-Rubin series of rifles and the magnificently ugly SG510... with a two-ways spring for the extractor/ejector.
Or the fact that half the support weapons used by the Swiss army from 1900 to 1945+ were in an upsized Luger toggle action. LMG and 20mm aircraft autocannon included.

We mountain Jews love to overthink shit.

The Swiss also experimented with Mauser-type stripper clips. They were successful but were more expensive and it was determined they offered no advantage over the steel and cardboard loaders.

What everyone is forgetting here is that in the 30's celluloid, paper, resin, and pressed fiber were kind of the experimental composite matierial of the era.
They experimented by making all sorts of small shit out of such matierials that were normally made of metal (license plates, dog tags, ration coins) for the same reason we make dumb shit out of carbon fiber today.because its high tech and looks cool, and because they can.

90 years from now some collector is going to be online with some faded cracking and sun damaged plastic magazine going "jesus fuck, why didnt they just use metal"

Because people dont design small shit like clips and mags to last a century and such matierials both worked, and were in vogue at the time. Thats why.
>>
>>28245507
What, something disposable can't handle constant use 70 years later?

If you have some for your Swiss rifles, don't use them too much.

Also, choice in metal can affect reliability. Brass Carcano clips can only have so many trips through the gun before they stop working.

I bought two of them, and the retention is not great. It's fine for a range toy, but if you ever wanna go InRangeTV style, I wouldn't trust them for any sort of serious shooting. They were worth the money, but I'm glad I have mine OG ones.

Is it possible to 3D print strong enough stripper clips?
>>

They would be too flimsy and definitely not okay for combat.
For an amateur tho, they would be fine.

Anyway it's less expensive to just bend a sheet of metal.

Is GP11 going to show up on the market again?

I'll buy a mound of it if it's reasonable.
>>
>>28258485
Nope, most is staying in Swiss borders becasue it is less of a headache and more profitable in a couple years it's probably going to be the last couple shipments

Just save Privi brass and reload, GP11 is good for milsurp but you could blow it out the water with basic hand loading techniques without even working up a load.

>Could someone show a source how this cardboard thingy is actually cheaper than a metal strip

I don't think it's a matter of "cheap," but rather availability.

The reason why the Mosquito was built is because a new heavy fighter/light bomber was needed. But in a global war, not only are materials used extensively, but also hard to get unless your country produces said natural resources. The British had a lot of timber and skilled workers with wood, so they built a successful, flexible aircraft out of timer. That kind of improvisation and ingenuity is what it takes to win a war of that scale.

The Swiss did it to conserve metal for other things. Plus, they spent a lot of metal on ammunition and other parts of the gun.
