Lithuania chooses the Boxer as its next IFV.

88, 84 IFVs with 4 command variants.

And instead of the pictured Lance turret, they've gone with Elbit's UT 30 Mk 2 unmanned turret.

The Boxer beat out competition from

Patria's AMV fitted with the UT 30 Mk 2 turret; ; the Iveco SuperAV fitted with the UT 30 Mk2 turret; the Nexter VBCI with the T25 or T40 turret; the General Dynamics Land Systems LAV II with the Kongsberg MCT30 turret; the General Dynamics European Land Systems Piranha V; the Otokar Arma and Mizrak-30 turret; and the FNSS Pars with the E30 turret. Meanwhile, Elbit has separately bid its UT 30 Mk1 and Mk2 turrets, while Lockheed Martin UK has offered its 40 CTAS turret.

nice to see an army actually using the boxer in a combat role, we (nl) only use ours for command, ambulance, engineering and cargo rolls

Are you a Lithuanian? If so, labas. We're buying 88 of them. 4 will be command vehicles and the other 84 will have the unmanned turrets, right? Also are the turrets the same as on the German Pumas? I've heard that the first 14 Boxers should be delivered in 2017.

Really, /k/? This is the most advanced version of the Boxer. There's surely something to discuss.

>Do you know why they chose the Elbit's UT 30 Mk 2 over the LANCE turret or the Puma turret that was overed by KMW?

My guess is probably cost, while the UT30 doesn't appear to have a dual feed system, I guess it will be quite a bit cheaper.
Also 7.62>5.56, I still can't believe the Germans went for a 5.56 coax...
>>
>>28232861
That's pretty much it, jew turret lowered the overall cost by ~30%, at least the press pulled this number. Really it was a contest between Boxer and Piranha V, but Piranhas are not in production yet, and the earliest date they could start delivering was 2019.
>>
Why didn't they just buy Rosomaks? Poland is next door and they probably would have gotten a better deal.
>>
>>28232968
Army wanted high level of protection, and Rosomaks are basically downarmored Patrias.
>>
>>28233012
How does a Boxer compare to a CV90? Which one has better protection. I still think we should have gotten tracked IFVs.
>>
>>28232968
It was part of the competition, AMV.

Rosomaks is just the Polish name for their licensed AMVs.

>>28233086
Depends on how much armour is fitted on either. Vehicles these days aren't static, everyone tailors the vehicle to their requirements.

Also they're aim in buying the CVR(t)s to develop an armoured reconnaissance battalion - making baby steps in building their experience with operating armoured vehicles, and integrating them with their infantry and the armoured units of fellow NATO members before they try to expand on their capability.

Latvia developing an armoured reconnaissance Bn goes hand-in-hand with Lithuania developing the other capabilities you'd find in an Armoured brigade (such as tracked artillery with PzH 2000 and this purchase of Boxer IFVs), since the two countries will probably operate together along with Estonia (who are buying CV9035NLs and armoured engineer equipment).
>>
ITT: Baltic shitlords imagine they are militarily relevant and that their purchases matter without Poland to save them and other NATO members to patrol their skies. There is nothing more vile than small country nationalism

>they probably cost like hell too
Not that much, 88 Boxers for 400 million is a hell of a lot. Patria's offer was around 260–350 million for 100 AMV's, with industrial co-op where most of those would have been build in Lithuania. That would have been financially better option for them, but it seems it was either politics that triumphed in this one or they just genuinely wanted a few tons heavier platform
>>
>>28233873
Both Slovenia and Croatia had corruption scandals recently concerning their Patria purchases, so I think you're right about that decision being political, however, that doesn't automatically mean it's wrong.

They cost as much as tanks. This contract is gonna line up someone's pockets. But it's okay. Not like the minimum sallary in Lithuania is jus barelly above 300 euros. Patrias would have been a much better purchase for us.

>>
>>28233999
Official price i set at 500 with the potential to bargain to 400. But seriously, how expensive are IFV? Even if the price is 400 a single Boxer will cost 4.54 million euros. Also what was the most expensive option?
>>
>>28234051
Nexter's VBCI was the most expensive, Piranha V was second on that list. Thing is, we don't know any of the details of these proposals, how much of it goes for repairs and maintenance, etc., mostly it's just speculation. However, 4mil. doesn't seem that outrageous to me, considering it's the latest gen platform.

>>28225282
Not as many know much about APC's, you practically have to have served in the military and had some contact with the branch to have something to say (or work in the industry producing these).
How about you bring something up.

Personally have been in the infantry, and though we got to use several types of APCs on different occasion for transport and support, there is not much I can say about a vehicle based on a pic alone.

Only think I've noticed is that the back door seems flimsy and thin compared to APCs I've been in (see pic) >>28222574

>>28234051
You'll notice a descripancy in unit cost and overall cost of the deal in any such arms sales, tanks, APC's, helicopters or airplanes.
Part of the costs is shipping, maintenance obligation, spare parts, maintenance equipment and training.
Some ammunition could also be included in such a deal. for example if there is a specific ATGM the turret takes those may or may not be included in the deal.
>>
>>28242247
How many Pumas are they buying? Will they cut back the order even more. It looks like the Germans are preferring APCs over IFVs.

KMW or Rheinmetall did show the turret Boxer to the Army HQ some time ago, who knows perhaps they might just acquire more variants.
