Lithuania chooses the Boxer as its next IFV.
88, 84 IFVs with 4 command variants.
And instead of the pictured Lance turret, they've gone with Elbit's UT 30 Mk 2 unmanned turret.
The Boxer beat out competition from
Patria's AMV fitted with the UT 30 Mk 2 turret; ; the Iveco SuperAV fitted with the UT 30 Mk2 turret; the Nexter VBCI with the T25 or T40 turret; the General Dynamics Land Systems LAV II with the Kongsberg MCT30 turret; the General Dynamics European Land Systems Piranha V; the Otokar Arma and Mizrak-30 turret; and the FNSS Pars with the E30 turret. Meanwhile, Elbit has separately bid its UT 30 Mk1 and Mk2 turrets, while Lockheed Martin UK has offered its 40 CTAS turret.

that unmanned turret is pretty cool.
nice to see an army actually using the boxer in a combat role, we (nl) only use ours for command, ambulance, engineering and cargo rolls
the ut30 is fucking huge. talk about maintaining a low profile. next gen of russian unmanned turrets look much more compact
>wheeled vehicle
uh huh
>>28222641
Depression angle. Also high line of fire makes shooting over troops head safer.
>>28222768
Yeah, maintenance will be a nightmare, and how do you intend to airlift a wheeled vehicle, right?
oh, wait...
>>28222114
Are you a Lithuanian? If so, labas. We're buying 88 of them. 4 will be command vehicles and the other 84 will have the unmanned turrets, right? Also are the turrets the same as on the German Pumas? I've heard that the first 14 Boxers should be delivered in 2017.
Really, /k/? This is the most advanced version of the Boxer. There's surely something to discuss.
>>28225282
It´s not an AR, it´s not Magpul, it´s not american. Therefore /k/ is not interested, same thing happens with every other threat about european stuff.

You say this because you think the Armata hull is the same size as T-72 based vehicles.
>>28225743
Had the same reaction when I was totally hyped about the MG4 and the MG5 earlier this year. I know this sucks bro.
Do you know why they chose the Elbit's UT 30 Mk 2 over the LANCE turret or the Puma turret that was overed by KMW?
Meanwhile, Latvia purchased CVRTs. Point at them and laugh!
>>28225704
>stop liking things I dont like
Your insecurities about Americans have nothing to do with old news not getting much attention.
>>28226014
>Elbit's UT 30 Mk 2
Don't know. The test vehicle had the Puma turret. Maybe because of the Spike missile system.
Is this the Elbit turret?
>>28226072
>ad hominem
You are an fucking asshole. The MG5 is hardly old news, seeing at least one FAL threat everyday. It is certainly a lot newer and arguably sexier than the thousandst "hey guys which of these twelve Moist Nuggets is the best" poster. "Go suck on your dad´s balls

It´s only out since august this year, so it´s a bit expensive and unproven yet. I think a small country like lithuania would want to wait till a bigger country buys a larger number of these

>>28226099
I thought we would be getting Boxers with the same turret as the Puma's. This thing looks like shit and is pretty vulnerable. Not to mention for the price tag we're buying them we SHOULD get the Puma turrets.
>>28226349
It's the same turret the Puma uses. How long has the Puma been out? At least 5 years?
>>28226464
And because of your valuable oppinion I shouldn´t like new machine guns. How very interesting

It's not a bad purchase, good cheap second-hand recce on the go. The British get the most out of them and the Scimitars will be service for quite some time still.
Mmmnh Lithuanians
>>28227247
>look at the kurganets turret for comparison
The UT30 sits its gun on top of its ammunition, the Epoch sits its gun in front.
One is taller, one is wider and deeper.

IIRC, most of those were APC variants - armed with 7.62 GPMG. Damn thing can be penned by 12.7 lol
>>28232017
Most of them were Scimitars for recce and Sampsons for vehicle recovery.
>>28226014
>Do you know why they chose the Elbit's UT 30 Mk 2 over the LANCE turret or the Puma turret that was overed by KMW?
My guess is probably cost, while the UT30 doesn't appear to have a dual feed system, I guess it will be quite a bit cheaper.
Also 7.62>5.56, I still can't believe the Germans went for a 5.56 coax...
>>28232861
That's pretty much it, jew turret lowered the overall cost by ~30%, at least the press pulled this number. Really it was a contest between Boxer and Piranha V, but Piranhas are not in production yet, and the earliest date they could start delivering was 2019.
Why didn't they just buy Rosomaks? Poland is next door and they probably would have gotten a better deal.
>>28232968
Army wanted high level of protection, and Rosomaks are basically downarmored Patrias.
>>28233012
How does a Boxer compare to a CV90? Which one has better protection. I still think we should have gotten tracked IFVs.
>>28232968
It was part of the competition, AMV.
Rosomaks is just the Polish name for their licensed AMVs.
>>28233086
Depends on how much armour is fitted on either. Vehicles these days aren't static, everyone tailors the vehicle to their requirements.
>>28232055
I stand corrected.
Well there was that little Patria case and they probably cost like hell too.
>>28227247
aren't they have the same turret?
>>28233128
Also they're aim in buying the CVR(t)s to develop an armoured reconnaissance battalion - making baby steps in building their experience with operating armoured vehicles, and integrating them with their infantry and the armoured units of fellow NATO members before they try to expand on their capability.
Latvia developing an armoured reconnaissance Bn goes hand-in-hand with Lithuania developing the other capabilities you'd find in an Armoured brigade (such as tracked artillery with PzH 2000 and this purchase of Boxer IFVs), since the two countries will probably operate together along with Estonia (who are buying CV9035NLs and armoured engineer equipment).
ITT: Baltic shitlords imagine they are militarily relevant and that their purchases matter without Poland to save them and other NATO members to patrol their skies. There is nothing more vile than small country nationalism

Did you just get triggered, slavshit?
>>28233410
>Did you just get triggered, slavshit?

The 5.56 coax is only a temporary solution. In the end it will be either the 7.62 MG5 EBW or the .50 BMG Rheinmetall machine gun that is not in production yet.

>>28233194

Not that much, 88 Boxers for 400 million is a hell of a lot. Patria's offer was around 260–350 million for 100 AMV's, with industrial co-op where most of those would have been build in Lithuania. That would have been financially better option for them, but it seems it was either politics that triumphed in this one or they just genuinely wanted a few tons heavier platform
>>28233873
Both Slovenia and Croatia had corruption scandals recently concerning their Patria purchases, so I think you're right about that decision being political, however, that doesn't automatically mean it's wrong.
>>28233936
>corruption scandals
>88 Boxers for 500 fucking million euros
They cost as much as tanks. This contract is gonna line up someone's pockets. But it's okay. Not like the minimum sallary in Lithuania is jus barelly above 300 euros. Patrias would have been a much better purchase for us.
>>28233962
Actually, it's 400M., and it wasn't even the most expensive proposal.
>Patrias would have been a much better purchase for us
I know this is /k/ and everyone's an armchair general, but this is ridiculous.
>>28233999
Official price i set at 500 with the potential to bargain to 400. But seriously, how expensive are IFV? Even if the price is 400 a single Boxer will cost 4.54 million euros. Also what was the most expensive option?
>>28234051
Nexter's VBCI was the most expensive, Piranha V was second on that list. Thing is, we don't know any of the details of these proposals, how much of it goes for repairs and maintenance, etc., mostly it's just speculation. However, 4mil. doesn't seem that outrageous to me, considering it's the latest gen platform.
>>28222114

Well if you look closely the boxer has something the patria doesn't.
Germany buys 131 more Boxers.

Someone sounds mald. Guess what. Even though Russia is much bigger than us and you have more military hardware Russian people don't live any better than us. Funny that, huh?
>>28225282
Not as many know much about APC's, you practically have to have served in the military and had some contact with the branch to have something to say (or work in the industry producing these).
How about you bring something up.
Personally have been in the infantry, and though we got to use several types of APCs on different occasion for transport and support, there is not much I can say about a vehicle based on a pic alone.
Only think I've noticed is that the back door seems flimsy and thin compared to APCs I've been in (see pic) >>28222574
>>28234051
You'll notice a descripancy in unit cost and overall cost of the deal in any such arms sales, tanks, APC's, helicopters or airplanes.
Part of the costs is shipping, maintenance obligation, spare parts, maintenance equipment and training.
Some ammunition could also be included in such a deal. for example if there is a specific ATGM the turret takes those may or may not be included in the deal.
>>28242247
How many Pumas are they buying? Will they cut back the order even more. It looks like the Germans are preferring APCs over IFVs.

The opposite will mostlikely happen which means more Puma.

>>28252600
We have no need for air lifting them.
>>28252568
You can put one on AMV as well.
>>28252568
You can put a turret on anything. Boxer that Lithuanians will have a UT30 turret. Patrias can be equipped with almost any turret. There Was a tech demonstrator equipped with a BMP-3 turret.
>>28242170
KMW or Rheinmetall did show the turret Boxer to the Army HQ some time ago, who knows perhaps they might just acquire more variants. For now they are switching quantity in different versions being acquired. Also I heard the Boxer is set to replace the Bushmaster in Mali because the Bushmaster suddenly is found to be ill protected for the Malian circumstances.
Are there any pictures of the Boxer with the UT30 turret?
>>28253054
That was a production variant and not just a prototype. It was sold to UAE or some other rich as fuck arab nation.
>>28253218
Don't think it's been made yet. I've only ever seen Boxer demonstrated with Lance and Kongsberg's MCT-30 so far.
