It's not real Bakelite, it's a material that looks similar (same deal with "Bakelite" AK magazines). Bakelite is brittle when cold or under extreme stress, so it's not desirable for use as a firearm's shell.

Kalashnikov is cool and all but Korobov was way more innovative, it's a shame none of his designs took hold.

That was more or less the case, Soviet leadership was super-conservative when choosing designs and Korobov's stuff was literally too crazy for them. That's what happens when one rifle design completely dominates multiple generations of Soviet small arms, you get a bunch of stick-in-the-muds who refuse to allow any real innovation.

Korobov was a level above Stoner IMO in terms of ingenuity, although we all know whose designs were more successful.

Selecting the color of the plastic wasn't really an option mia famiglia, they took the stronkest polymer realistically available and rolled with it. Color is the least of your concerns when it's 1960 and you don't want a brittle plastic gun.

...Both are phenolic resin. It may not be "Bakelite" brand but it's the same fucking stuff.
>Bakelite is brittle when cold or under extreme stress
...What? Phenolic is one of the most thermally-stable plastics out there. They used it for space capsule heat shields, for fuck's sake.

His only experience is probably the 'Bakelite' a lot of the magazines you get here in the US are made of.

>The TKB-022assault rifle is gas-operated weapon with annular gas piston located around the barrel. To achieve minimum length, it is assembled into bull-pup configuration and uses vertically sliding bereech block (bolt), rather than traditional and most common bolt that cycles back and forth. Since the movement of the bolt (breechblock) in this design cannot be used to extract, eject and load cartridges,Korobov developed a special U-shaped rammer / extractor, that strips the frech cartridge from magazine, pushes it into the chamber, then, after the discharge, pulls the fired cartridge case back from the chamber. Upon feeding the next fresh cartridge, the fired case is pushed forward and slightly up, into the ejection chute above the barrel. Spent cases finally fell off the gun above the muzzle.

Korobov also made the TKB-517 a gun that was better than the AK-47as it was more accurate, cheaper and simpler in design so it was easier to produce.

I don't have pics now but that's wrong. The bottom is sealed in later version. The gun has a forward eject tube above the barrel and the ammo is fed up using a ramp

>Working with his father, who had similar talents, the two ran the Ljutic Gun Company in the Fresno area. One day in 1955, a close friend and Remington field rep by the name of AA Reil called to invite Ljutic to go trap shooting with him the next day. It was only after he agreed that Ljutic figured out that he didn’t have a trap gun at his disposal, so rather than go back on a promise, he designed and built one by the end of the day.

Only 10 were imported to the US.
One pistol was sold for $4000.
Think about that.

>>28108574
Why only 10? Banned from import or what? Was there only a few made?

Poor sales and only a few made.
If the same design was made by, Smith and Wesson for instance, there probably would be much more in the market.
