Remember, neither one was intended for use as air defense. They were anti asteroid weapons pressed into service as area denial tools because somebody (rightly so) thought that they were fucking cool.
They would work alright for a few weeks, but then every swinging dick with cruise missile spam capability would crater the area. Combine that with the fact that they would have a limited, known range and it would be easy to just go around them until you can put in a plan to eliminate them as a threat.
Overall, 4/10, does give an erection.

In reality, probably invalid. The cost would be unbelievably fuckhuge. Belka's superweapons projects were one of the biggest contributing factors to their economic crash IIRC.
Excalibur is ultimately better IMO, it uses satellites with mirrors to bounce the laser anywhere it needs to go, allowing it unlimited range.

I can see Stonehenge being a valid weapon if burst missile technology, unstable nitrogen allotropes and all those shenanigans turn true.
I mean, sure, the cost would be huge, but imgine having a shell that can cover half a country in less than a minute that explodes over a huge radius. That would be a nightmare for all planes.
Also Excalibur is kinda silly due to it's height ( In Aces at War it's stated to be over 1 Km tall. Imagine a slightly taller Burj Khalifa WITH LASERS ), but I can see how it would be a valid concept right off the bat.
After all, Infrared laser tech is already real, unlike burst warheads.

Stonehenge was more of a form of long range bombardment more than it was anti air weapon. In AC4 it forced the ISAF army to have to invade through a narrow mountain pass, since attacking anywhere else would result in annihilation. The Excalibur is impractical because mirrors that can bounce off lasers like in the game don't exist.

Yes, also the F35 costs so much that it will basically be a joke non-entity to everyone but the USMC (The only people who have a fall out of the sky old plane to replace).
Fast forward to year 2040 and I would bet money that we'll still be flying Super Hornets, Falcons, and Eagles just like the Russians will still be flying Su-XX Flankers. The -22 and the -35 will probably be in a museum.

Is anyone really hyped about this anymore? After Assault Horizons managed to take what was always an arcadey plane shooter that stopped paying any attention to reality right after making models that looked kinda like a real plane, and filled it with so much bullshit it made every other entry in the series look like a po-faced sim I have little hope for the game.
Maybe they can somehow find their way back to making a game that was fun enough it didn't matter that planes somehow fitted 100 A2A missiles onboard along with dozens of secondary munitions, but I think more likely is they'll be too scared of COD kiddies getting bored if theirs no explosions for more than 5 seconds and it'll end up being 10x more insane/full of random bullshit than a AC game should be.
And if their's no PC release then irrelevant altogether, no matter how good it might be in wildest dreamland it isn't worth buying a fucking PS4 to play.
