What did weapon mods look like in the 1960's?
>Flashlights, Scopes, Mounts and Lasers

What the hell is that
>>28084685
OP Here.
That's easy to answer, it was used in Hitlers bunker during the second world war the attachment below is a lighter for cigars.
>>28084685
it's a blinged-out luger with a flashlight.
>>28084683
>flashlights
not really used
>scopes
they looked like scopes but not many people got them
>mounts
pretty much all proprietary
>lasers
no
>>28084706
Got any pictures?
>>28084683
Late 40's, Nydar weapons sight.
>>28084685
German "Night" pistol. Used by Hitler's body guards. Flashlight is activated when you grab the gun completing the circuit with your palm. Some sources state it was loaded with tracers.
>>28084725
View through sight. Something simmilar was reportedly used on aircraft machine guns as well.
Heres some retro reflex sight.
Can't remember anything about it other than its supposedly from the late 50s.

Those things are really shitty. I used to have a collection of 'em, probably had a dozen at one point before selling them off.
>period of time when I was into collecting early gun sights
You can add a LED and make the things usable with some niggering, but it ain't purdy.
And yes, the idea for the Nydar sight came from turret sights in bombers. Just didn't work that great, unless you are out in the 100% sun as in your picture.
>>28084758
That's the same thing posted two posts above you, a Nydar.
>>28084761
Can you give me a full review on them? Please? I always found them fascinating but everyone talks about them from a collection standpoint not a usage one.

So, anything OTHER than a fucking Nydar shotgun sight?
>>28084766
huh, so is it.
Helps to actually read the thread I guess.
>>28084790
Find something yourself then asshole.
>>28084790
not much innovation until the 70's/80's.
Have an early Aimpoint
>>28084776
It's made of glass (so somewhat fragile). Unless you are in the sunlight or a bright as shit indoors area, it's going to strain your eyes.
Otherwise, they're not bad for shooting at birds. I had one mounted on a Stevens 620. Loved that thing.
They're certainly usable 50-60 years on but just keep in mind that there are cheaper and more efficient options for shotgun holographic sights.
Last time I checked Nydar prices on eBay, they can range from $10-50+ depending on what it is and what comes with it
>>28084797
So back in the day it would have been the bees knees on a Thompson or something?
What if you had a tritium vial rigged to it under a cover?
>>28084790
Nobody cared about making weapon modifications much outside of a few exceptions, until recently.
>>28084795
Early Aimpoints are cool as fuck.
>>28084802
No adjustments on these sights, so unless you had a scope mount that was adjustable, pretty useless on anything other than a point and shooty. though for a f/a thompson, that might have been quite alright.
don't know if it could stand up to repeated recoil from F/A though.
I had a LED rigged up to one of mine. It does make a difference. There are other sights that use the same principle, like this piece of shit that Weaver used to make
The original tactical pistol
>>28084790
m203 grenade launcher, instead of using pictanny rails, you had to replace the whole handguard and reinstall with this one
>>28084810
How hard do you think it would be to make one? It's just a prism and a glass lens right?
Woul be cool to see a 1940's tactical Thompson with one rigged to a tritium vial and a light for room clearing.
>>28084790
The M3 modification for the M1/M2 carbine. Used late in the WWII during Okinawa and used extensively in the Korean War. Made for night time sentry watch
>>28084845
That's just asking for trouble, did it work?
>>28084877
>>28084845
Awesome
>>28084683
Extended magnetizes have always been a thing, so that would be a mod.
didn't dirty harry have a scoped 357?
>>28086173
>t
>>28084683
I know it isn't 60's, but someone post that gangster full-auto 1911 with the extended mag and foregrip.
>>28084683
>>28086241
Obligatory
>>28086279
John Dillinger's .38 Super 1911
>>28086315
Yeah, beautiful example of vintage modded guns.
>>28084837
Actually the M203 is mounted to the barrel, the handguard just covers up the mounts. You don't have to replace the whole handguard in theory, which was done on the CAR15s with the 203.
>>28086305
Thank you. Its close enough that no one will really care.
Its really once you get past the 90's that everything turns into what we have now.
>>28084683
Most mods were done by smiths in the civilian world.
Mods for military were done in country. Vietnam had a lot of "field mods" done to guns but regular Joes as well as snake eaters.
Pic related, modified XM177 with foregrip and an early 30 round magazine. Looks like his moderator is covered up too by tape to keep mud and dirt from getting into the barrel.
>>28086379
Ducktape, The only choice.
>>28086391
Foregrip wasn't duct taped on. There's a bolt and washer that runs through one of the handguard vent holes that secures it to the lower heatshield.
Sometimes they cut the A1 grip at an angle so that it would be straight when mounted.
>>28086379
Here's another Vietnam era weapon mod.
Shortened FAL by Aussie SASR in Vietnam. The Aussies also attached the early 40mm grenade launchers to them. This one just has the extendo (pretty sure that's not an original) magazine and short barrel with foregrip.
>>28084810
>Qwik Point
Ayy.
>>28086600
Fucking hated that marker in call of duty which is why I use iron sights only.
>>28086600
>>28086620
Iron sights are alright but sometimes you need a bit of zoom.
>>28084683
I would assume chopped down verisons would count right?
80's
>>28087993
>>28084877
Amazingly so. The WW2 version was short range but worked wonders against Jap night raids.
