Ian and Karl did a review of it.

I don't know. I have heard this meme about M855 being "light" Armor piercing but have never found any documentation on it besides forum posts from gun sites with no documentation or proofs.

>>28082052

Also M995 is the stated AP ammo in the US military, not M855 and I have never seen any written documentation in FMs or Lesson plans claiming it has AP capabilities.

i don't know, but I just built my first AR, and I got 2K of it because it was cheap.

And its sooo tiny. I'm used to my garand and these little baby intermediate cartridges are...tiny.

I know exactly how you feel, I mostly fired 7.5 Swiss and the 223s are just so small

I mean, it does make the point of being able to carry at least twice as much ammo. It just seems like a toy.
>>
>>28081736
m855 is shit. I have shot it thru a 1" @ 100m ar15 and it was around 2" +/- 1/4".

The 1" groups were using Australian outback 69smk 55cpr match ammo.

It has a steel penetrator, but the Belgians designed SS109 to piece a steel helmet at 600 meters. Several NATO countries felt the M193 Ball round were too devastating, so the 62gr SS109 projectile was forced through as the new standard.

Here are the finalists in the late 1970's NATO small arms trials - the British 4.85mm, German 4.73mm caseless, the Belgian 5.56mm SS109 and the US 5.56mm XM777. The triple-seven projectile had a steel penetrator and weighed 55gr but was a longer bullet than the M193 so it necessitated a faster twist to stabilize.

Go find yourself a .17 HM2 round.

Its so cute!

Honestly, 55 (m193) grain brase case was like 28 cents a round during black Friday, I rarely see m855 for less than. 34 cents a round, so I shoot m193

As for m855, its an old outdated design from the 80s with a purpose (penetrating a Russian helmet at 600 yards) that is not in line with the mission of modern soldiers. The m855a1 is a improvement over it and once civilians can buy it 10 years from now, I recommend you try it out.

>>28082515
I'm seriously thinking of buying something that shoots that just cause why not have something that shoots what appears to be a novelty toy cartridge.
>>
>>28082978
Well, as you can see from my pic I got some of each at BF. Just showed up on my doorstep today. Thanks, Sgammo..

I admit, this is why I went after a 7.62x39 AK first. 5.56 AR is likely the next rifle I'll buy.

Shit, its only about 20cpr...I might quit shooting rimfire ever.

Imagine a world where we all owned G11s and occasionally some memester posted a picture of an M16A1 and talked about the amazing "California space magic" that never took off.

you know 17 HMR rimfire, right?

It's still fucking awesome. People use it to hunt coyote here

I thought it was pretty fucking garbage.

Shooting at 200/300 yards my "Colt" packaged shitty steel case out performed it.

The only reason it exists was to make the M16 a viable option for "armor piercing", all the while making the round do something it wasn't made to do resulting in some pretty shit performance.

>>28082422
Xm193 vs M855? I just ordered 90 rounds of xm193 due to the recent shooting and inevitable california online ammo ban, need to know if I made the right choice
>>
>>28083871
It's a very effective round versus people who aren't behind cover and aren't wearing body armor. Some reports from Vietnam talk about M193 tearing massive holes in people.

It's shit versus barriers, as I said, which makes it great for home defense too if you care.

>The only reason it exists was to make the M16 a viable option for "armor piercing"

Thats fucking wrong stupid. M855 is not marketed as an AP round and will not defeat plates. There is AP 5.56 ammo. It is M955 with a Tungsten core.
>>
>>28083895
Got it with home defense in mind, just wasn't sure entirely the difference. Seeing this video was the main deciding factor on me choosing xm193, don't know if you have seen it-

>M855
Look into it. The militray wanted a cartridge capable of busting steel helmets at long range, the M855 was the only way at the time they could make the M16 fill that billet.
>>
>>28084017
Close. The Belgians designed it for their Minimis (M249 in American).

No wonder the government tried to ban it
>>

It was designed with both the Minimi and the FNC in mind.
