What ever happened to this stupid-looking thing?

Wasn't it actually pretty close to replacing the M2?
>>
>>28078823
M2 is pretty much perfect in design.
>>

>>
>anything replacing the M2
Yeah maybe when blasters or phasers are invented. We are going to be humping that god damn gun into space

Why boner, why?

>40 RPM sustained could ever replace the M"
>>
>>28078861
Hahahaha no.

>>28078823
Basically they realized that it was going to be expensive. The main advantage it had over the M2, weight, wasn't really that big a deal considering that most of the time it's vehicle mounted or just sitting at a base. But, the M2A1 version came out, and made it that you can actually change barrels without the fucking bullshit that timing and headspace adjusting is, and they kinda thought, "Well, this isn't that much better, and it'll cost a shitload to replace every M2, so fuck it".

It's the same reason AR-15s stick around. Sure, in some respects, other guns are better, but it's real fucking hard to argue that they're the cost of replacing something like 2 million rifles better.

you to brah. I mean unless they can replace 5.56/7.62 with somthing, lighter cheaper, and harder hitting, well be using AR-15/ m-16/ak47 what evers until we have other starsystems under our control.

is this a fucking joke?
>>
It's a 25mm grenade launcher that could part swap to fire .50 BMG, it was never going to be a direct M2 replacement.
>>
>>28079111
Clearly A. you've never tried to move an M2 and B. you've never done headspace and timing on an M2.

I'm not saying the M806 was good, I'm saying that the M2 is far from perfect. I mean, seriously, outside of pistols, how many guns made in 2015 use short recoil?
>>
>>28079171
>Clearly A. you've never tried to move an M2 and B
What is a HEAVY machine gun, as opposed to a GPMG or LMG
>>
>>28079249
Personnel transporting the weapon in a non-combat environment can use multiple people or a hoist. As heavy as they are I see no reason why you wouldn't just save yourself the trouble of having to lug the fucker around to move it when you could just use an engine hoist and save yourself the time, trouble, and pulled muscles.

Most conventional firearms would be far, far less effective in space. The lack of atmo means anything air-cooled will overheat very quickly.

I'm thinking that robot prawn suit from District 9 with an M2 on each arm. Or maybe an M3M instead. Dirty.

Or maybe just one of these but with reaction thrustersr stuck to it.

>tfw when you're the ruck rucking the receiver on an M2 in addition to your combat load.
It was only a 5 mile movement but holy fuck that sucked.

And headspacing and timing is pretty fast if you're not an idiot. But, nostalgia aside, it's an improvement not requiring it.

>>28078823
Please.
One day, power armor will exist. And we'll have squad heavy gunners humping the ma deuce in space blowing the shit out of greyskins.

You can tell with that abomination was taken back to the drawing board over and over with several hastefully made corrections to fix shit that was popping up during trials.
