Look what I found parked at RAF Akrotiri. Map data dated this year.

Besides the U2, There are also a pair of C-130s, a pair of E3Cs, 4 CH-47s, 3 of what look like AH-64s or possibly Cobras or some other slender gunship, and a number of five blades helos I can't ID
seeing one deployed ANYWHERE is a treat for amateur watchers and a major burn for the intelligence community. Their presence alone tells volumes to the right eyes.
Flying up and around 70,000', the U2 can get timely shots of a wide area with side-mounted cameras. They might even be RADAR cameras now that bypass smoke and cloudcover. But at that altitude the U2 won't come anywhere near the coast of Syria- but would still be plainly seen to the Moskva's Fregat MR-710 search RADAR.
Chinooks and gunships of some sort. RAF Akrotiri IS a training base foremost, though IIRC, UK Apaches can carry the Penguin Anti Ship Missile.
I can't ID these choppers. They arent Griffins or Lynxes or any allied rotary I know of that uses a 5 blade arrangement like that. Any ideas?

They have literally been there for 40 years. It's on Wikipedia.

>UK Apaches can carry the Penguin Anti Ship Missile.
AH1s can't use Penguins. UK doesn't even use them.

Do not reply.

googlr sanitizes sensitive aircraft off their maps. Seeing one of these is a bit like finding a white elephant.

Why

>seeing one deployed ANYWHERE is a treat for amateur watchers and a major burn for the intelligence community.
Well i mean being that its BASED there its kind of hard to call it a treat or a burn.
Its cool to see it out of its hanger, but thats it.
Why are you lieing, op?

>AWACS
So those allied fuckers WERE planning on establishing a no-fly zone to protect their precious terrorists after all..
>>28074549
>AWACS = no fly zone
Nigger, what in gods green earth gave you that idea?
AWAC's main job is airborne control of airframes, I.E making sure they dont smash into each other and giving assets a better picture of the battle space.

Sea Stallions, sorry.
>>28074589
The whole sea line (stallion, super stallion, king, jolly green giant 2.0) is all counted out because it has 6 blades, not 5.
>>28074626
I can't count
>>28074589
Are you too dumb to count rotor blades?
Five (5) rotor blades. Sea stallions got six, the newer ones seven.
>>28074634
King stallion got 7?
Noice.
>>28074641
Oh shit, the super stallion got 7 too, im a dumbass.

>a pair of E3Cs
Those are British E-3Ds (Sentry AEW.1) or an E-3D and a French E-3F.
Look at the diameter of the engines and you can see they have the CFM56-2 instead of the TF33 engines on USAF E-3C/E-3G aircraft

Since you know nothing about the matter, the AWACS is absolutely critical in maintaining and enforcing an NFZ.
There is no other purpose for it.
>tfw you will never be a U2 pilot
>tfw you will never look out your port window and see this
Actually, considering there may be some element of space and/or using space for terrestrial travel in my life time assuming I got another 50/60 years left I might see that....
>>28074894
>the AWACS is absolutely critical in maintaining and enforcing an NFZ
Of course.
>There is no other purpose for it.
Full fucking, and astoundingly, retarded.
AWACS dont do CB2M? They dont do surveillance?
