calling all old fags
has the state of the world, be it gun laws, gun violence, wars, mass murderers and other social issues always been this prevalent?
Im sick of kids my age talking like this is all just a sudden thing and would like some insight. Or has the world always sucked?
>>

>has the state of the world, be it gun laws, gun violence, wars, mass murderers and other social issues always been this prevalent?

Ever hear of a little thing called "The Hundred-Years' War"?
>>
>>28066456
The number of violent deaths and conflicts in relation to the number of people on the planet is lower than ever.

The 20th century was far more violent, even discounting the major set-piece wars, than the 21st century has been.

The "Syrian Refugee Crisis" is a hilarious, trifling drop in the bucket compared to the rivers of blood that were flowing in Rwanda, the Congo, and Central African Republic barely 20 years ago.

The prevalence of media and especially first hand video of every little injustice and 'atrocity' has increased the sense of violence and mayhem even though there is less than ever.

Surprise Surprise, people's perceptions don't match reality.

36 y/o here, yes and no
the world has always had problems. mass murders aren't new, sleazy politics isn't new,gun control isn't new (but we have more people fighting for guns now then I remember) SJW's and their issues aren't new. IMO, the big difference is
>internet
social media is based around everything now. I don't need to hear what the folks on twitter are saying about jack shit. Its lazy journalism and needs to stop.
>kids are given way to much credit
in relation the internet, nobody knows how to tell somebody to shut up anymore. IMO its all from the "every get s trophy, NOBODY LOSES :D :D" crap generation that's now grown and doesn't know how to be an adult so they blog and tweet and "protest" thinking theyre going to actually make a difference when theyre really just sitting on their hands and acting like children
the world sucks when you grow up, part of that is just shrugging it off and dealing with it and trying to enjoy what you have. Welcome to it
>>
>>28066456
There's what? around 6 thousand years of recorded history, minimum?

There were wars back then
There were rapes back then
There were burglaries, assassinations, stabbings, mass executions, and kidnapping and tortures back then

Shit has always happened. Always, from the start. I assure, at some point in the beginning of mankind, someone killed someone else somehow, over some dumb little shit (probably more valid back then, since you actually had to do so to survive, but you get the point)

Back then, it was sharp rocks. Then arrows. Then sharpened steel. Then explosives, chemical warfare, projectiles, and all sorts of things.

Nothing's changed. The game is the same. We're just playing with better graphics, is all. So if you meant to ask if bad stuff happened in the past? Yes. And it'll always happen. I'd say it's just part of humanity, but no. That's life. Life is shit. And shit happens. If people choose to stand by and watch, that's up to them.

>36 is old now

>>
>>28066456
As far as all that shit goes, I'd hesitantly say that it's never been better these days.

Sure there are problems now and yeah they're pretty big, but looking back there's pretty much always been way worse shit happening.
>>
>>28066456
if this is about the shooting in CA, then yes people have been mass murderers before and poloticnas try to pass bullshit laws to appease the upset public. crack open a history book
most violent crime is on the decline, but the media and everyone having a camera makes it seem like the wild west
that being said, I carry a glock 17 and have a 30 rnd back up mag in my car. Am I paranoid, maybe but I like to think im prepared

war never changes

The crime in the US has more than halved since 1993

Think about that. That's absolutely fucking nuts. Shit's never been better in the US.

If this is about today's attack, they only blow it up because it's rare and it gets ratings. Pure and simple.
>>
>>28066456
Every piece of data says it's worse. We just have a direct link to it live.

First of all being old doesn't into being an oldfag.

I'm 30 so I'm practically a grandpa here, and I've off and on 4 Chan since I was 19 or 20, can't even remember.

To answer your question tho, no crime rates have significantly decreased while police budgets and incarceration rates have increased. The "war on drugs" is a major factor, prohibition 2.0.

You can blame the media and Internet for making people aware instantaneously of anything that happens anywhere. Shit has always happened, it just wasn't broadcasted or #hashtag twatted about.

>Tldr

No your generation sucks ass and whines hard.
>>
N.A.S.A Grandpa here, Overall everything is much better than it was in the 40's and 50's, The SJW problem, while not completely new is pretty fucking bad and freedom of speech is currently getting wrecked, Seriously who the fuck thought "free" speech zones were a good Idea. When my son told me about that shit I damn near blew a lid. Modern feminism is a fucking joke and a pretty big threat but we will get passed it. There will always be problems but no one has the hide to deal with it any more. The large majority of the modern generation has paper skin. People believe that words can hurt you now and because they believe that it lets it happen. The only way to live is to stay positive and do your best to make the change you want. Politics are pretty fucked up now day's all over the world. Merkel especially disgusts me. Stay strong and don't bow to those who think freedom of speech should be limited, that is the way you can instantly write off any movement as bad. If they don't believe in completely free speech tel them to fuck themselves.

The Odyssey was written in the 8th century B.C. and it contains some of the most graphic violence I have ever read. The version presented to school children has been completely neutered of all violence, and thus any real reason to take interest in it. The only reason The Odyssey survived the sands of time was surely it's noteworthy violent content. Conclusion: humanity has always been violent.

So to be an asshat and tl;dr this:
>People aren't able to put up with shit, so now they while about it, and that whining has been given a fucking megaphone by the internet.

Bingo, there will always be whiners its just that the skin is thinner and the shout box is louder.

In this country at least, the greatest problem is the media.

Not only are they causing mass shootings. The attention they give them make it seem like gun violence is at an all time high, which it isn't.
>>
>>28068518

>victimization of children in school on the rise

I blame this solely on Michael Obama's school lunch program
>>
>>28068567
I don't believe this graph for a second, my son was pretty fucking seriously bulled in grade-middle school, I think that it just does not get reported as often with kids no longer able to take care of the bullies themselves.
>>
>>28068614

So much this.

When I was 6 years old a boy punched me and I ran and told my dad. His response, "well, go punch him back". So I did, won the fight, and we actually became friends afterwards.

Today's generation: call the cops, call the school board, call the Pentagon, call the Vatican, call the national guard: my son Timmy was called a faggot #stopbullying wah wah wah.
>>
>>28069129
I told my son to hit them back after they ignored him reporting it for the 6th time but it is a bureaucracy now with them having to fill out a fucking 2 page report if they wanna report bullying but wanna know what happened when he hit back? He got suspended for 2 weeks and nearly got the cops called on him for "assault" fuck the public school system.
>>
>>28069246

Should of told him to punch back but not at school. Or at least after school let out. You know the old "meet me in the parking lot or playground after school".

Anyway I remember after I fought my bully he invited me to his house to play mortal kombat. This was in the 90's he had a sega Genesis.

Then we touched weiners.

Jk. Maybe.
>>
>>28066456
Not an oldfag, but
>Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?” For it is not from wisdom that you ask this.
>Ecclesiastes 7:10
I want to say it is a common misconception.
>>
>>28066516
>>28066588
Yeah these.

Seriously look into the wars that went on in Africa. It was fucking insane. Combined, it was practically WW2 down there but from the 70s-early 2000s.

>has the state of the world, be it gun laws, gun violence, wars, mass murderers and other social issues always been this prevalent?
The world has always sucked. Hard.

Terrorist attacks happened back 20 years ago.
Revolutions, coup d'etats, civil wars.

Social issues were getting frazzled everywhere.

The only good thing today? There's LESS violence and crime in the United States now than there was 20 years ago.

The police brutality native best sums up the state of the world, "it's not that these things didn't happen before. They happened everyday. However now with the advance of technology every person is a reporter with a camera in their pocket. So while we as a society continue to progress and improve the media is flooded with more stories of wrong doing them ever before. So despite the fact that things are better then ever, you hear it's worse. Only because more people are yelling then ever before.

Yes

This is true of pretty much ever generation. The only difference is greater communication and larger population.

Looking at history, really the only thing that's changed, ever, is that we've become more adept at harnessing other forms of energy to do our work.

Oh yeah, and since about 1952, we've had the capability to blast the planet into a hellish irradiated moonscape, and take out almost the entire thing with us.

48 yr old oldfag here.

Things are about the same (minus the Isis shit).

Syria is not the end of the world. Shit has been going down in that area of town since the Crusaders turned up.

Massacres and bombings are more or less the same. I think that the 24hr news cycle has made the reporting more hysterical and the sudden appearance of "experts" is just a way to fill in air time.

Check out some very recent modern history that would have broken the interweb if it was around then. Mostly forgotten about now.

42yo here, life has never been as good as today. what changed is the perception and entitlement of people. today everybody seems to think that they deserve something without even having tried or actually done shit. a lot of things are presented as if everybody is entitled to have them without working for them. but to say that the current youngfag generation is worse than others before is also a misconception. today people just have the means to be very vocal and tell fucking everybody what they think, this makes them believe that their opinion matters, which is not the case at all.

just check out how many terrorist attacks happened in paris in the 70s and 80s.

I actually talked with my granddad about this once. He went on about how he went through similar shit in the mid to late 60s. Wars, shady government shit, social movements, violent social movements, ect. It was a time of stress and paranoia and he started carrying a gun on him since korea. Then he rode it out and things got better. Its like how franklin said every country needs a revolution every 20 or so years, we have little social turmoils to shake things up. It just sucks because right now things in retrospect aren't even all that bad, and the things that are would seem better if people could just calm the fuck down and pull their heads out of their asses
TDRL, learn to stop giving a shit, and in time it will all be a memory
