How practical would Fallout-style power armor be in an actual combat setting?

They already have the equivalent of just the frame in development (or testing).

Would you rather be the highly armored & offensive domination of a tank while also being target #1 or would you rather be a ghost in green.
>>

As walking tanks/line infantry, stupid as they're not much more infallible as regular infantry against heavy weapons

As CQB specialized shock troops, more viable as close quarters allow greater use of its enhanced strength, speed and defenses to quickly overwhelm infantry in a situation where heavy weapons are impractical to use

A tank can deflect up to.... well im not really a treadhead but I would say like 100 mm if it was glancing. Tankfags correct me.
That armor cannot deflect 100mm

As I recall they were used as anti tank troops, and laser weapons were much more powerful in canon than in the game, so a power soldier in armor sprinting through the battlefield blasting tanks apart then spraying with their miniguns in a more support role, also I believe you could get like 12 suits of power armor for every one tank, and they took less fuel to run.

You have no idea how this shit works do you?

Very. Especially with the means to deploy them rapidly as Shock Troops or as a QRF/. Inflicting casualties and/or buying time for other friendly forces to get to safety or adjust their posture.

Just waiting on battery technology to catch up. Things will really get interesting when Graphene can be manufactured in large quantities.

Lightweight armor AND Herculean physical strength, what's not to love?

Power Armor would make urban and mountain combat hell, for those facing them without power armor.

>Flipping over cars and using them as barricades.
>Block enemy caves with boulders.

This makes me hard...

About as functional as it is in fallout.

That being said, fallout is a depiction of "post apocalyptic" skirmishes, something like their power armor even if possible and existing in the 'real world' would not be cost effective in non "post-apocalyptic" modern combined arms warfare.

What the fuck... you high nigger?

Make it 14.5mm resistant and it might be fieldable for 5-10 years.
>>
>>28065045
It would never be 14.5mm resistant.

But putting that aside, if you're armoring it to the level where IFV / mounted HMG armament aren't that effective anymore, people are just going to stop using 14.5mm, and start sticking 40mm on everything to fuck you and everyone near you.

The cost of fielding units with 'power armor' outweighs the cost of fitting more lower cost units with weapons that would be able to defeat it.

If it could withstand the bombs and even a fucking rocket thruster like in the games then it would be perfect for apocalyptic battlefields.

Those 2 soldiers in Power Armor who were guarding the entrance to Vault 111 likely would have survived the blast.

I think a mini turboshaft running off jp-8 is used for one set of exosuit right now. Lockheed's HULC. Just use existing battery tech that Tesla uses, have a hybrid exosuit instead of relying solely on batteries. Fire up the turboshaft whenever the battery runs low, or keep it on during high-use periods.
