Oh my.
>>
>>28058297
the wings rotate too. So they are at optimal angle for current flight condition. being straight up for hover or flat for fast flight.

4 blades instead of 3, per rotor.

larger blades

more powerful engines

longer

has a second cockpit. that drops down allowing a pilot to fly the helicopter while facing backwards and looking at the ground.
>>
>>28058073
Yes, although they're called Vipers now. Some new, some upgraded.
>>
>>28058325
>4 blades per rotor
Wut?
>>
>>28058264
>>
What is this called? Like when they take an aircraft or a helicopter and lay all of its possible loadouts in front of it

I've seen things like this so many times I'm assuming there's a slang word or jargon for this sort of photo shoot
>>
>>28057947

In Vietnam some AH-1 crews put belts inside the ammo doors for extracting downed pilots.
>>
>>28057947
you can sit on the wing or wheel and ride the helicopter to safety.

usually something only done by operators.

though if you are in an apache battalions and at NTC. you can get to do it if the pilots need to train on it. It is fucking terrifying. even if you are firmly strapped to the bird.

normal chinooks have 3 blades per rotor.

this prototype one off has 4.
>>
>>28058527
that looks incredibly fucking dangerous.
>>
>>28058594
EEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEE

WHAT i CAN'T HEAR YOU!?

It is. Which is why it isn't done unless no other options. Better to sit on the wheels. You have less seat but more to grab.
>>
>>28058527
>>28058405
Thats what I mean, It's going to be done semi-regularly, costs nothing to just add a seat belt/handholds/seat on the outer hull.

>>28058594
If you were strapped in, then it wouldn't be dangerous at all. Except maybe getting hit by a bird or w/e, but this is for emergencies so you accept that risk.
>>
>>28058639
it costs nothing to unofficially add some belts... if they did it officially they'd need a couple senate committies, some studies, manufacturer proposals and before you know it... it'd cost a goldmine and they have a new version with a million other changes that sucked...

in theory being strapped in would be safe.. however I'd be willing to bet it severely limits how fast and high you can go with the chopper... wind chill and freezing seem like they'd be a problem...
>>
>>28058694
It's not about turning apaches into passenger aircraft lol
Its about, they easily could carry 10-12 people, in a pinch, if there were little fold down benches with seat belts.
>>
>>28058694
Only the Chinook can fly high and fast enough for that to be a concern.

Apaches when loaded with weapons, are slow shits that can not get that high.

If you put 16 hellfire missiles on an apache. It can barely make it to 90 mph.

>>

I'm just wondering why they didn't just add more fuel. Another 200-400 pounds of fuel isn't anything to sneeze at.
>>
>>28058815
It's very, very rarely used. On actual operations it's intended to allow a Havoc to land and safely recover/extract the crew from another downed Havoc. Extremely cramped and noisy and uncomfortable, I doubt it even has seats. Just a slightly improved version of guys hanging off the side of an Apache.
>>
>>28058737
right, and if you think the government can do that in a streamlined efficient manner then good fucking luck...
>>28058745
go get in the bed of a pickup and stand up while your friend does 90 down an empty stretch of highway.. try it in winter...

you might be surprised...

didn't they have to put shields on the stretchers that they used for helicopter medivac? pretty sure a sioux is slower and shittier than a freaking apache...

besides it does look shielded towards the top of the head and they've strapped down the blanked to not leave any exposed skin...

Remember someone posted a video of a few Kiowas training. They spotted a couple fucking in their open top convertible and the mission apparently instantly changed to "record it without being noticed".

Every time I hear about Kiowa pilots it's always that they're hilariously crazy.
