Hey /K/eks, I'm looking at a cheap reliable pistol, I have narrowed it down to the p-64 or the "real" makarov, Help a brother out, which is better? Pros, cons, what do you use?
>>
Leave the meme guns for when you have cash to burn on a collection.

get this instead.

I have a P-64, I'm really happy with it. The only downside that I see is because I have Slav hands.

I with the grip was a little longer on The P-64 because the 9x18 is a "snappy round" and even with a firm grip it wants to buck because the last 2 fingers on my off hand rest near or under the mag.

I don't regret the purchase and I love it, put 200+ rounds through it last weekend and not a single jam.

between those i'd rather have a Makarov

for carry I recommend a CZ82
>>
>>28043447
But i the CZ82 reliable like the makarovi?
>>
>>28043506
it has a million more parts and a double stack magazine.

get the SW MP Shield 30 from palmetto state while it is $320.
>>
>>28043546
>>28043420
.40sw can be had for the same price as 9mm mak and is a clearly better round.
>>
>>28043546
Whatever dumbfuck approved the mag release mechanism should have been drug outside and shot.
>>
>>28043600
if you are talking about the CZ, someone probably was. Czech have that little bit of German in them. It causes them to over engineer things sometimes.
>>
>>28043620
Couldn't tell you what kind of mag release the Shield has, but I bet it's loads better than the 82's. Absolutely no reason to have that finicky half-clamshell bullshit. Then again, the entire pistol is riddled with inefficient design choices.
>>
Bulgarian Maks can double as a bottle opener and you can get a .380 barrel for like $40
>>
I have a pa-63 and I enjoy it. Small and sleek enough for a edc. Ammo is easy enough to find at my local ranges and shops but no real other positives or negatives past that. I also don't know what they currently go for I bought mine from my uncle for 125 dollars so that's a large factor of why I use mine
>>
>>28043675
good maks and Mak caliber comm bloc pistosl now cost as much as a Shield.
>>
>>28043322
Mak is bigger but holds 2 extra rounds. Its sights are also slightly larger. It kinda comes down to preference but I would go with the PM.

>not wanting pistol of glorious soviet design
It's like you're wanting to be a pleb
>>
>>28043634
I think it's the most comfortable and accessible gun that I own that's just a joy to shoot. Then again, I have giant mitts that rip medical XL gloves. Maybe you just have babby hands...

Hand size has nothing to do with horribly designed magazine release mechanisms.
>>
>>28044492
If you mean mechanically, I can't really say one way or the other so I'm inclined to believe you, but functionally it works the same as any other push-button in my experience.
>>
>>28043322
Heads up, shooter grade bulgarian maks on AIM for 240
>>
>>28043322
P-64 supposedly has worse recoil. I have a Makarov in .380 and it's completely spammable. Whatever you go with, if it just has flat color sights get some bright enamel paint (I use vivid orange) from Hobby Lobby or some other craft store and paint the front sight to make it easier to pick up.

>.40 S&W
Fuck that shit, why would you want to handicap yourself with more recoil and less magazine capacity for no real difference in terminal effectiveness? Not to mention any money you may save from getting a gun in .40 S&W is going to be lost due to the more expensive ammunition within the first couple range trips. Going with a gun in .40 S&W because it's cheaper in order to save money only makes sense if you never actually plan on shooting it.

If I wanted a plastic gun I would have bought a plastic gun

Steel Makarov ammo is now the same price as brass .40sw smmo.
>>
>>28045317
...and? 9mm costs less than .40 S&W.

The CZ82 is realiable, accurate, and easy to shoot well. It's one of my favorites.

But she has too much donk for a carry piece.
>>
>>28045439
>donk

a very round, attractive ghetto style booty?
>>
3rd for cz82. 12+1 and my go-to ccw with a 19lb wolff spring and buffalo bore +p cast lead. Pretty much the pinnacle of the walther design.
>>
>>28043322
How small are your hands? Legit question. Cause the P-64 is one tiny ass gun. I'm a glove size 7 and EVEN THEN my hand barely fits comfortably. I'm using every inch of that grip.

That said, being a small framed person, it conceals wonderfully.
>>
>>28043322
Get a makarov, unless getting the smallest pistol in 9x18 is your goal.

If you get the P64 expect to swap out the springs with wolf springs to make the trigger semi-decent, because without them you will think it's broken (near 22lb trigger pull in some examples.

Better yet, get a CZ-82, or even a CZ-83, they can be had on gunbroker for ~250. It's a great compact pistol with a double stack mag, and is way more accurate than it has any right to be. Plus you can still buy new parts for it directly from CZ
>>
>>28045554
>near 22lb trigger pull in some examples
My P-64 is pushing 26lbs on DA. Single action it's more like 5-6lbs.

You really have to understand that the P-64 was designed as a military carry pistol, and was intended to be carried with one in the tube and hammer down. The extremely heavy pull is for user safety.
>>
>>28048473
>and was intended to be carried with one in the tube
literally no military sidearm is intended to be carried with one in the chamber.
The extremely heavy pull isn't for user safety. That's what the safety is for.
The p64 was meant to use the same ammo as the pm-63, which had very hard primers to help prevent ND.
>>
>>28045554
Find me a cz83 for 250 ?
>>
>>28044546
I HATED the mag release on the cz82s I had. Because of the placement and the way the grip was shaped I couldn't reach it with my thumb so I had to use my trigger finger from the opposite side.
>>
>>28043322
P64 is NOT fun to shoot if you have big hands.
>>
>>28049468
I've heard p64 is not fun to shoot no matter what. it's a great ccw though.
