Was thinking about getting a revolver, what does /k/ think about the semi/revolver debate
>>
>>28042355
It's not a debate. Semis are more practical.
>>
>>28042355
My friend brought up a good point. If it doesn't shoot you simply pull the trigger again instead of having to clear a malfunction. Also a bit lighter.

That being said, I would still take a semi-auto for a ccw any day.
>>
Revolvers are superior unless you need to fire more than six shots in rapid succession. Most importantly they just werk.
>>
>>28042355
Cool gun, stylish, not as practical

>>
I've pretty much talked myself into buying a S&W 442 or 642 sometime relatively soon. I think J-Frames still make a lot of sense for some uses. They conceal in a pocket better than a semi-auto, at least in my pants, and I'd take a .38 from a snub over a .380 any day.

Can't say I'd bother with anything bigger than that unless I felt like going hunting with a pistol (which I don't).
>>
>>28042355
You can take that semi / revolver debate and wrap it around your neck and hang yourself. Because revolvers are obviously better by /k/'s standards yet they want to be bitches and say "NUH-UH". So you might as well get a revolver because /k/ isn't going to stop harassing you until you do- then they'll just wack off to your "gun-porn tier" $400 revolver.
>>
>>28042515
This. As far as budget guns go, just put down an extra $50 for an RIA M206. Who needs a Hi-Point?

I put forth:

Right now revolvers are better for magnum rounds.
With guns like the Coonan, semi-auto's are getting better both at handling the magnum rounds and serving as carry guns for magnum rounds. Previously, guns like the desert eagle were the primary option and not particularly great for carrying around.

The point is that soon, not quite yet, there really will be no point in a revolver over a semi-auto even for magnum rounds.

Of course, I could have said the same thing about digital watches replacing analog watches 30 some years ago but we still see a ton of analog watches.

As long as a style of gun is available in modern ammo, it will be used.
>>
Why not both

>no point for revolvers
>what is enjoyment and recreation

>what is aesthetic
I swear half of you are autistic pissbabies who can't understand that sometimes people like things because they're cool.
>>
It's not a debate at all.

Revolvers are a more refined, sophisticated, elegant, and overall superior firearm than an automatic loading handgun.

Yes.

I personally prefer revolvers due to the higher power cartridges and general rule of cool, but if I were to pick something for practicality's sake it would be a semi in 10mm

JFrame in a sharkfin is an easy carry. Fits in shorts wth no shirt. Without it, id be no.carry in summertime.
Auto in wintertime. Added firepower to cut through winter clothes.
Each has its place.

>implying /k/ gives a shit what strangers on the internet buy

>>28042355

if you want a large caliber and dont need high cap get a revolver

if you are more interested in capacity get a semi-auto

thats all that needs to be said
>>
>>28042355
Fuck you OP and fuck your retarded quetion. if you want a revolver buy one. If you want a semi-automatic pistol, buy one.

Nobody knows your preferences like you do.

its all circumstantial and preferential
semi's outperform revolvers is some areas and vice versa. You can go tit for tat about everything (calibers, ease of use, weight, ect) but IMHO that's because people want an easy answer to all their problems when it comes to carrying. you can have it all, at some point you have to trade up capacity, comfort, size or price. You find what suits you best and cut your loses. Anyone who is a grown adult has given up on debating firearms in such a way

So target shooting, hunting, collecting and any number of defensive uses don't exist in your world?

And a revolver will work just as well now as as a defensive gun as it has the last what, 150 years as long as you aren't trying to clear a enemy held city with a sidearm.
>>

>what does /k/ think about the semi/revolver debate
I like guns.
>>
>>28046175
eh, I like my snubby LCR .357.

Sure I could carry a LC9 or a .380 small semi, but I'm a bit scared about small carry guns jamming and I don't feel like hunting for ammo that will work 100% of the time for the gun. The LCR drops in my pocket, is a bit more jam resistant (inb4 pennies and lent), not picky at all, and doesn't suck during the summer.

Boy it's almost as if .45 is a shitty round made for a completely different set of problems... HMMMMMMMMMMMM.
>>
>>28044730
The Desert Eagle is an outlier. I love mine, but the most powerful round it shoots is .50AE, which generates about 1500 ftlbs of muzzle energy firing a 300 grain bullet.

Compare that to the S&W 500, which weighs as much as the Deagle. It fires the same 300 grain bullet for 2800 ftlbs of muzzle energy. That's battle rifle territory.

Take the next round the Deagle can fire, the .44 Magnum. A typical .44 Magnum load throws a 240 grain bullet for 800 ftlbs of muzzle energy, with hotter loads exceeding 1200 ftlbs.

The Desert Eagle, and a couple of other autoloaders like the LAR Grizzly and AMT Automag, which are just as big, are the only semi autos capable of handling it. Meanwhile, you can get a five shot revolver from S&W or Taurus (blech) that is the size of a Glock 17 in .44 Magnum.

There are some autoloaders that come close. 10mm guns can give you hot .357 Magnum performance in a double stack handgun and the special snowflake .460 Rowland will get you into the lower end of .44 Magnum power in a 1911 or a Glock.

But for real Magnum power in a compact package, the revolver is still King, and will likely be so for the foreseeable future.

>>
>>28047695
It's a common measurement used by the firearms industry to measure muzzle energy. Joules are are also used but for an American audience, ftlbs are the standard measure. They give a relative understanding in the difference in performance between various calibers.

If you have issue with this, you may wish to contact the firearms industry and set them straight. I believe that SAMMI is their governing body.

Good luck.

And it's almost as if terminal ballistics should not come into any non-retarded individual's brain when selecting a pistol caliber. HMMMMMMMM
>>
>>28047440
I could see it working in a Mauser C96 type pistol with the magwell in front of the trigger guard. Even then, to work well, it would still need to be a massive gas operated gun similar to the Desert Eagle. Though there is a "light weight" Desert Eagle supposedly coming soon. It "only" weighs 53 ounces instead of 74 ounces unloaded.
>>
>>28042355
It's not a debate. There are clear advantages and disadvantages of each. The only people who argue about semi vs revolver are the people who don't own both.
>>
>>28042355
There is no debate, get both. You're fooling yourself if you think either is "better", that is totally subjective to application and user.
>>
>>28045790

And being a freak of nature.

Some people are just special.
>>
>>28042355
They're good at different things. Debating it is a useless circlejerk for both sides.
>>
>>28042355
Use what is most comfortable to you. As far as practical application it depends for ccw most argue that semis are better because of muh capacity, however, since most ccw instances happen within 15 feet a revolver would work plus is more compact and easier to conceal. Also if you need more than 5 or 6 rounds at 15 feet either you have an aiming problem or your fighting a legendary ghoul on survival mode

Only situation I've drawn my gun was when some guy grabbed me from behind like a big bear hug and tried to squeeze me to death or something.

Ended up shoving a bodyguard 380 into his side. Didn't have to shoot, but i realized that the gun could jam up from having body contact.

I carry a J-frame now.
