You will not be disappointed with your HK. I've had a USP .45 for years, (it was a State Police gun before it was mine) and they are tanks.
I don't have a thigh rig for mine, but you may want to take a look at custom kydex holsters online. There are quite a few makers out there with very good reputations/reviews.

Never handled an USP before but tried the SFP9 and P30L... Figure i can buy either of them whenever, due to future legislative coming our way i had a bad hunch i might not be able to get the USP so went with this Teutonic beauty first.

The P30 is one of the most comfortable pistols I have ever shot. I have a VP9 now and it is close, but not quite as nice. The USP isn't as pretty but I love them too. It's nice to know it will always go bang when I want it to.

Get an LEM kit, makes it much easier to manage if your using it as a carry piece

If its the "forget to disengage safety" thing youre worried about, just get a V3 plate, literally $8.... If you are talking about there being an extra lever, then I suppose you got a point, but really its rounded and not prone to snagging on anything....

I won't modify the USP in any way no worry. My carry piece was a first gen HS2000 and before that a PHP ( Walther P38 and Beretta 92FS having a retarded baby) so whatever the trigger feels like, for a carry piece it will be a godsend :)
