What's the max distance .22lr can fly accurately?

I don't mean deliver enough power to kill anything, I mean a distance it can hit at a man-sized paper target.

About three fiddy

I'm asking seriously. I'm a noob that never shot anything apart from .22lr but I have a 200m range nearby that I would like to start shooting at.

No idea if buying .22lr rifle makes sense, or do I need to buy something in, say, .308 for that distance.

For 200m you could do a .223/5.56 ez

.308 would work obviously, but if you learnt on a smaller calibre then moved up would probs be better imo.

After 100 meters you'll be lobbing the rounds at a significant angle, I've tried it at 200 meters with Kentucky windage and I was holding the crosshair at over a meter above the target to get impacts on paper.

It also was not accurate, wind Will be seriously affecting the round at that point.
>>
The range I go to, has kids shooting on the 200 yard firing line all the time. It can be accurate enough to hit paper at that distance.

Depends on what ammo you're using.
Get some supersonic high end stuff and it will fly further than the Aguilar Mexican throw down ammo.
>>
With the proper setup and load, you can lob them accurately to about 400 yards at most.

Realistically speaking though, 200 is the cutoff.

100 yards or under IMO.
I can hit things closer to 200 yards, but it's got a massive drop even by then. I'm just using irons, but I'm probably aiming over a foot above target to hit it at 180 yards. I can't even see the target because the irons are blocking it. This is why I want a cz455 trainer with the adjustable rear irons.
I've tried 300 with irons. I don't know what the drop is, but I could never really figure out how to hit my steel that far out. I kept stepping up my lob and never could land a hit. I was going after a steel target that was at least twice as big as my 180yd target too.

Get something bigger. Literally any centerfire round from 556 or 762x39 on up will be absolutely fine shooting to 400 yards at least based on my backyard shenanigans.

I routinely have fun with .22LR at a fair distance. I use CCI Standard velocity, so the bullets don't go through transonic, and retain more accuracy.

Hitting a 1 foot gong past 300 yards is pretty easy, and if the scope cant was enough, 500 yards wouldn't be impossible.

I'm sad that all the people on /k/ above haven't shot their .22s at any actual distance. 200 yards for a .22LR isn't really much, my BRNO target rifle landed three back to back groups of 5 rounds, each under 2 inches, smallest one of five rounds being 0.75".

From a 200 yard zero, hitting a 300 yard target requires about 9 feet of kentucky with non-supersonic ammo. At 400, aim a good 30ish feet over.

Related.

I don't use the BRNO too much for this, I mostly use the Savage MkII FV for past 200 yards. I want to get a canted scope base and Burris signature ZEE inserts; they come with built in nylon ring shims that are awesome and can get like 20 more minutes of cant.

My range should open up a 700 yard rifle lane at some point next year. I want to get some rounds on paper.

I told you it's about 350.
A man sized target at 350 is doable

I shoot my Ruger 10/22 at 250 yards all the time. Just figure out how much you have to hold over and it's easy.

That's really damn good... I think 22plinkster has a video of him hitting shit at like 500 yards and doctacdad hit like 600 with his taloruger1022taloruger1022taloruger1022

I'll hold like 5" groups at 200 with my marlin xt22 and 20moa base. Without the base, my scope didn't have enough elevation to dial past 175...

Try target ammo of 40gr at 1080ft/s or so.
