Anybody ever owned a Delta Elite? Love 10 mm and im thinking about getting one
>>

Its a 10mm 1911 whats not to love.
>>
People telling me to go with a Kimber Eclipse cause colt has frame issues
>>

>People telling me to go with a Kimber
You should stop listening right there.
>>
>>28038508
Might as well be a 1911 in .40 S&W.

Colt outright tells you it can't handle hot 10mm without damaging the frame.

Buy a 10mm Sig P220 instead.
>>
>>28038770
why would you shoot overpressure loads? The round is fine as it is without bubba tossing in a few extra grains.
>>
I carry one at work along with a 340PD on my ankle. Some of you may remember I made a thread awhile ago about being head of security for a very large bank. It's a great handgun, handles nicely, but may be a little on the heavy side for daily carry. I carry mine in a shoulder holster under my suit jacket. I've tried to carry it on my hip several different ways, and none I have found to be comfortable. Also, keep in mind 10mm ammo will burn a hole in your wallet if you plan to shoot it regularly.

>>28038720
Old kimbers are God tier 1911s. The new ones after ~'08 are ass
>>
>>28038788
Fug, for a moment I thought you carried the Delta Elite on your ankle.
>>
>>28038793
Kek. If you carried that monster on your ankle you would walk like Mr. T just fucked you in the ass all day
>>
>>28038508

I've been shooting it for years no issues but I don't know if it's due to the springs, my loads, or to the fact Colt supposedly fixed their machining on it, or a combination of these things. It does have an aftermarket guide rod and spring assembly, like 28lbs or some ridiculous shit. Was like that when I got it so I don't know if this is necessary or not.

The steel frame and probably the heavier springs takes a lot of the punch out of the round vs from a glock or sig, it's like shooting a hot 45.

I love it, but do your research and make sure you aren't getting something you'll regret.
>>
>>28038781
Not him, but most of the factory 10mm you find on the shelf is underloaded to the point it is essentially .40sw.

"Hot" 10mm in their terms means a round that's loaded to what 10mm was intended to be.
>>
>>28038825
>Not him, but most of the factory 10mm you find on the shelf is underloaded to the point it is essentially .40sw.
if by "essentially .40sw" you mean "dangerously hot .40sw". because even boring old Hornady 10 mm 180 gr XTP surpasses buffalo bore's 180 gr "Heavy .40 Smith & Wesson +P" by 80 fps/72 ft-lbs..
>>
>>28039336
According to www.ballistics101.com this is incorrect.

Delta Elites can't handle FBI-criteria-.40Super. Kimber is a shitty company that did something right with the Eclipse. Sphinx makes a good 10mmAuto but you need to talk to a FFL to get one shipped into the U.S. P220s in 10x25mm are superb and I'd recommend it over the Eclipse if you prefer to not have a 1911.

I really want that Sphinx though.

Your (non unicorn gun/expensive as shit used market) choices are pretty much 1911 platform, CZ/clones or the sig p220 platform.

But can the delta elite handle the hot loads??? That was my first choice but fuck this thread has me second guessing. Should I just say fuck it and get the RIA

They worked out most of the issues early on but the pistol still has a lot of the problems inherited from the parent design.
There still isn't proper case head support in the barrel which could cause glocksplosion with super hot handloads.
Some people wont find it as reliable or tacticool enough like the CZ or p220 alternatives.

If you use really hot 10mm or reload you should go with the modern 10mm designs.

These are about the only two posts I've seen the last 5 times anyone asked about the Delta. It's seems nobody else on /k/ has ever bothered to look into the issue beyond some shit they read in a magazine a decade ago.

The frame cracking issue never made it I to the production guns. The only legitimate issue with the Delta outside of it not being setup the way you would prefer, is the case support. Unless you're going to be feeding the Delta a steady diet of really hot loads it should be fine so long as the ammo is within spec. Go ahead and compare those "not for delta" loads with nearly identical delta safe loads and ask yourself why that 50fps matters to you.

Take a minute to find out some specifics of the gun and why colt built it that way.
Accept that 80s era 10mm was sketchy and be responsible with the gun. If you want better info go check out 1911forums, M1911.org ask the power pistol shooters and guys that have been shooting em since they hit the market.

Also new Deltas have better case support than the G20
>>
>>28039742
When I read you post all I heard was bad excuses.

I mentioned bad case head support and you still tried to shit all over me. I even posted the newer revised DE barrel design in my post but I will go back and post the G20 comparison now since now you are trying to refute that.

Colt rushed their design to market in a scramble for cash.
>>
>>28039628
10MM auto has a longer case than .45acp, that's how I know you're shitposting.
>>
I've posted about this before. I have had my Delta about 7-8yrs and fed it top of the book power pistol loads.

Besides replaced springs every 1k rds its great.

I only replace springs every 1k because its 20 dollareedoos in my 900 pistol every couple hundred dollars of shooting. Seems like a good idea
>>
If you already have a 1911, get stronger springs and shoot .45 Super.

It'll be a lot cheaper and it's basically identical to 10mm. If you reload it'll basically cost you nothing if you've already got a 1911.
>>
>>28039641
>are delusional
>believes 10mm has a significantly shorter OAL and case than .45 auto
>believse 10mm is regularly loaded with long elliptical ogive RN

I don't believe they're the ones who are delusional, friend.
>>
>>28039836
Actually I wasn't trying to shit on you at all, I just flunked the first line of the post while o was waiting for a meeting to start, my bad. I was trying to say that those two posts were the only decent posts I've seen. I'm well aware what's up with the Delta and how the design could be improved. I'm just extraordinarily tired of of it getting that "M9s a shit, enjoy you're slide to the face treatment"

So since you aren't just a parrot let me ask you this. Do you really feel it was a rush Job completely or do you see it more as a business minded decision to go the route they did?

There's no denying it could have been better, but it seems to me the case support issue stems more from the nature or 1911 feed ramps and colt not wanting to work on that. The guide rod and recoil spring setup I understand completely
>>
>>28040125
They saw small custom shops and homebuilders doing 10mm conversions on their 1911's and colt pretty much replicated that.

You are very right about the limitations of the platform. I still think They should have done it the way STI did it with their Perfect 10 but that would mean more work for Colt.

I just use range ammo most of the time. Not to pricy and still more kick than my 45 1911. Shoots good groups even with the factory sights.

can we come up with a list of /k/ approved 10mm pistols similar to the 9mm and .45 ACP lists? just for future reference.
>>
>>28038770
You can go to a heavier recoil spring and it will digest the hot stuff. Most of the 1911-10mm failures were from the early run of DEs, early-mid 1990s. The later models were built different in the high stress areas.

My boss runs heavy handloads through his DE with upgrades. After doing research, I got a SW 10mm.

>>

Thanks man, it's my first 1911 style gun and I really like it. The all steel construction takes a lot of recoil out of the shots too
>>
>>28045334
Well the trick is that basically ANY gun in 10mm is approved. There aren't many and I used to have a full list several phones ago. The easiest to find will be

>G20
>G29
>Delta Elites
>P220
>DW RZ10 "Razorback"
>SW 10xx series
>SW M610
>EAA Witness series
>Obligatory Star MEGASTAR Fuckyeah

Most others will be either harder to find, expensive ass 1911s or custom jobs

Sphinx is arguably the best

The main weakness in the frame of the early guns was the gap where the slide stop fits in. In çurrent guns this has a bridge that fixes that one weak point.

Go Tom gun is an original Delta Elite without the bridge. Top is aa 10mm 1911 with the bridge. Modern Delta Elites have this bridge. With heavier recoil springs, they are fine with hot 10mm.

You actually have this backwards. The original 1911 and patent drawings have the bridge

The bridge was cut out in modern 1911's because the bridge is the first part of the frame to crack from the repeated stresses of firing.

I Have not owned a Delta but have owned 1911's in 10mm MY favorite is My Caspian Stainless 10mm, Although I had a Stainless Series 80 MkIV tricked out like a Gold cup also in 10mm back in the 90's. Also had a Glock 20 always felt like I might lose a limb if something went wrong, dont get me wrong I carried the Glock 20 and 21 for many years I just preferred the 21 especially in Summer. 1911 Felt like they tamed the recoil better in 10mm.

CZ, IMI and Tangfolio also have 10mm offerings.

Hello from the shithole that is down under.

Can anyone suggest a pistol that has a barrel length of around 130mm or longer whilst having a single stack mag?
Preferably all metal
With a manual saftey?

Our shitheap laws limit us to having 10rd mags and I can't stand the clipped/restricted/halfsize mags

As it is getting a 10mm is a shitload of hassle becoming an approved metalic shiluete shooter with a "genuine need" for more then 9mm

I just want to own something nice that doesn't feel neutered
