What's the best pistol I can get for going shooting at the range for ~$1000? I already have carry and self defense guns, so those aspects are irrelevant. I also already have a 1911. I've been looking at getting pic related, but I want to know if there's better options.

bought this off a friend for $600, then upgraded the shit out of it, still under 1k into it thought since I did all the gun-smithing myself. fantastic shooter, I highly recommend it if you want something a little different then what everyone else is bringing to the range.
>>
>>28035709
Forgot to mention, I already have a Glock 20. Hate the trigger on that thing.
>>28035715
Thank you.
>>
>>28035805
Uh oh. You goofed, OP. Prepare for Glock fanboy rage. Didn't you know, every Glock is perfect?
>>
>>28035667
do you have a beretta 92?
>>
>>28035709

I have a Glock, I like it a lot.

For a $1000 range gun, I'd get a Benelli MP-90 target pistol in .22lr. I think it would be fun to have a pistol that's an order of magnitude more accurate than I could ever be, and I think that practicing with that could potentially make me a better shooter.
>>
>>28035849
No, I don't.
>>
>>28035805
>glock trigger is shit

Confirmed for not liking nice things
>>
>>28035901
then buy an m9a3. or just get a normal 92 for like 4-500 bucks and buy something else as well if you don't care about the added shit on the m9a3.
>>
>>28035667
If you're buying a hi power for 1000$ make sure it has nazi stamps on it.

1006 is also a great gun that's also a little unique

I love glocks but even I can admit that it ain't great. Way better than comparable pistols for sure but not nice like a match grade 1911 or Sig or something.

I'll take those into consideration. Thank you.

People bitch about the price, but The added shit is nice
>new trigger
>slim grip
>better mags
>longer, threaded barrel
>night sides
>cut out for mdrs
>whole thing cerakoated
You couldn't do this shit alone to a regular berreta 92 for less, and its more than sig put into the mk25.
>>
>>28035994
USP and its immediate successor the p2000 are both pretty nice, but the p2000 is $600 now and usp compacts are $700 and less now. (Not including the .45) but for $1000? H&k p30 is an option. Nice fucking gun. Really fucking nice

it's nice, if you care about it.
I literally don't care about anything you listed though.

How's the trigger on the P30?
>>
>>28035667
A 9mm 1911, sig, or a beretta are all better options than the BHP. The single action trigger is decidedly "meh" due to the magazine disconnect. For $1200 MSRP, its SA is on par or beat by the SA on a $700 92FS.

Sticking with 9mm's for ~$1200, you could get a vastly better range shooter in the form of a Sig 226 for even a Sphinx SDP. And those are just out of the box guns. For the same price, you could get a damn good 1911 and send it in for a wilson trigger job.

The BHP is the ford taurus of guns. Too expensive for what you get and with better options all around.
>>
>>28035667
depends on what you want
>self defense
>range toy
>history piece
>future heirloom
>revolver, automatic, striker, SA/DA, ect

1000 is a lot to spend though, so you have a ton of options. If you play it right you kight even get more than one

my 2cents-
removing the BHP mag disconnect is easy. do that and install a reduced power hammer spring and the trigger cleans up real quick. a C&S extra-wide trigger is the icing on the cake.

treat yourself to something nice.

got to shoot one a buddy of mine bought, pic related, 10 yrd 3 shot groups. couldn't ask for a better range toy than an accurate as fuck high capacity 9mm with aesthetics to boot, in my opinion.

Range toy, pretty much shot exclusively in single action. Historical value would be a plus, but it's not necessary. I'd rather get one nice gun than multiple guns.
>>28036088
Thank you for the ideas.
>>

There is no question HK does make the best polymer guns.

>>28036078
Hk offers different trigger options. The LEM is a weird fucking trigger where the hammer spring stays cocked but the hammer is down. Basically, you get a long light pull similar to a double action but with a hard single action type break that is a little too hard and too far back for my liking. I had that on my p2000, great gun and very accurate. The LEM trigger felt like shit but damned if it didn't work well, I could shoot a tick off a dogs ass. They came up with it as a way to not need the external safety so if you hate external safeties consider it.
The DA/SA triggers on HK otherwise are pretty standard fare, they're good.

>>28036182
Okay, thank you.

Anyone of these would be a good choice under your max price point.
>>
>>28036175
are you looking for sometinh in SA or is that all you've shot?
Id say a custom revolver, 1911, Hi power would be nice. Maybe a nice custom Sig or Beretta but nothing says class like would and steel
>>
>>28036304
I'm looking for something in SA. Thanks for the suggestions.
>>
Not talking about the actual caliber here but despite having large hands, I've trained and came up on the 9mm/.40cal frame. Because of this the .45cal/10mm frame has just never been right in my hand and I don't seem to shoot them as well.
>>28035805
>Forgot to mention, I already have a Glock 20. Hate the trigger on that thin
The Glock 20 is a .45cal sized frame so if you can use that thickness frame/handle for all your needs and are trained with it. You may want to stick with a .45 pistol. I don't care for them myself and prefer the ease of carry from a smaller gun. 9mm is also half the price.

So for polymer guns, HK is great. For steel framed guns the $900 range of Springfield Armory 1911's are very good and Brownings have a downright cult like following.
There's nothing wrong with spending $600 on a gun, then spending $400 on a nice holster, case, spare mags and ammo. However, I caution you to shoot the gun a for a while first before making that extra investment. This way you know it's a keeper first.

That's all the advice you'll get from me, have fun.

Also one of these would be good for what you want to do. The P229R is also my CCW
>>
>>28036312
what about SAO? Like 1911s or hi powers. or again a custom sig?
If not then youre probably exclusively going to look at Colt or Ruger cowboy guns

Sig is the most overrated gun there is and fuck their non-ambi decocking right hand lever.

The DA/SA is meh. It's probably the worst DA/SA trigger I've ever fired on an HK pistol (the USP's DA/SA is great, while the P30's leaves a lot to be desired).

I am a big fan of the light LEM trigger. It takes some getting used to but once it clicks with you it quickly grows on you. I'm currently trying to decide if I want to pick up a light LEM P2000 or USP9c as a compact carry option.

I've shot the heavier V2 LEM trigger on a P2000 and I didn't like it at all, but the light LEM trigger I love. Before buying I'd suggest you try them. Some people hate the LEM triggers while some love them. If you're wanting DA/SA HK personally I'd suggest to think hard about if you really want to go with the P30, and look into other HK guns as again the P30's DA/SA trigger is very mediocre. DA/SA USPs can be had for cheaper than P30s and have much better triggers.

Sir as a Right handed Sig owner I have found none of what you say to be true.

If you get a 1911, just get a 5" barrel. It's traditional, proper, nicer shooting, more reliable, better looking and all around more couth.
>>
>>28035667
You can buy $1000 worth of Italian sexiness chambered in 10mm:
Tanfoglio Elite Stock III.

Runner up would be a nice1911, like a Dan Wesson Heritage.

Or, you could be a faggot and buy a plastic piece of shit.
