Anyone on here own one? I've yet to see an American L85 owner, do you like it?
>>
I don't think civvie versions of those exist, and if they do, I don't think any ever made it to Freedomland.
>>
>>28030551
It's fun when you hold your weapon for the first time, after a while your weapon becomes your worst enemy, until you have to use it to shoot an enemy lol.
>>
>>28030570
Some did, saw one on gunbroker a while back.
>>
>>28030551
No export models exist. The bong government is incredibly anti fun. I think RSAF Enfield is the only gun manufacturer in Britain
>>
>>28030570
would you get one if you could?

>>28030579
Are you British army by any chance, I noticed that a lot of the soldiers called them "weapons" or "weapon systems" a lot as opposed to just rifle, unless that's a worldwide military thing or just your preference idk.
>>
>>28030596
>would you get one if you could?

Uncrtain, I already have a bullpup that I haven't even fired yet because it didn't come with irons and I don't currently have the money to purchase an optic for it.
>>
>>28030579
Yeah, I remember in bootcamp when we first got issued them we had a lot of people in my platoon who had never touched a gun in their life who were having a grand ole time.

That lasted until about the first time we did 'form for PT'

When you're not drilling with them like I was it becomes basically like a child.

It's heavy, you carry it everywhere, you clean it, take care of it and not even god can save you if you lose it.

It's not all it's cracked up to be. Similarly, using weapons as part of the military has really opened my eyes up to how much punishment they can really take and similarly, how much people here baby their weapons.
>>
>>28030551
I don't know how to break this to you, but the L85 is widely considered garbage, and the L85A2 only barely usable garbage. Not even Brit SF use it.
>>
>>28031236
Why so?

Not arguing but I just want to know if I'm going to be using this rifle, what specifically would you say is bad about it?
>>
A good majority (I think about 85-90%) of the old L85s and what-not were destroyed by the British government instead of being exported. Or so I remember hearing. Crushed 'em and what-not.

Meh, you could probably make your own semi-auto version. Internals are pretty much almost identical to an AR-18/early AR-180 (the ones that actually look like a semi-auto only AR-18). Just get some stamped sheet steel pieces together and build it from the ground up. With help from a gunsmith, of course.
>>
>Anyone on here own one?

Are you joking? There's like four in private hands in the world.

See, I know you're just making that up because there's no such thing as an "old L85". They've never been replaced.
>>
>>28030589
>I think RSAF Enfield is the only gun manufacturer in Britain

That company hasn't existed since 1988.

Christ is /k/ really this ignorant? Really?
>>
>>28030589
RSAF doesn't exist anymore. Royal Ordnance, who owned RSAF Enfield and RSAF Nottingham was bought by BAE and both factories were closed by 2001.

Part of the old Nottingham plant is where HK's UK office is - they handle basically all international sales outside of the US and Germany
>>
>>28031775
Why place your company's office into a country where you can't even sell your merchandise?
>>
>>28031142
>not even god can save you if you lose it.
How could you possibly loose it? Do you drop it when you are tired on a walk or something?
>>
>>28030596
the screws in training will always refer to every single weapon as a weapon system and and will make you do push ups or reference a tree and make you crawl to it if you refer to it as a gun. the habit just stays with you.

The L85A1 was replaced by the HK designed L85A2.
It wasn't just some modifications to existing rifles they manufactured completely new ones and got rid of all the A1s

The SA80 in that picture is probably more prolific in UKSF that the LWRC UCIW that the guy on the left is carrying.

Lose your rifle?
how the fuck could anyone do that, it is always withing arms reach.
>>
>>28032037
The SUSAT got replaced by ELCAN Specter OS4x.

The British version has a few modifications like a bespoke reticule and an enlarged rain-hood over the objective lens, and they're fitted with a Shield CQB red-dot sight on top.

It's called the Lightweight Day Sight (LDS) in British service.
>>
>>28031872

The other option is go full sci-fi and make your own housing using a laser-sintered metal 3D printer, like those guys who 3D printed a metal (and functional) 1911. I mean, there's probably shit-tons of SA80 platform 3D models online that you could use. A hell of a lot more expensive, though.
>>
>>28032069

Alas the digital fire control system in pic related proved to be too heavy so only a few sets have been issued.

The LLM-01 has also been replaced by the Mk.3 version (LLM Vario Ray) but I don't have any good pics of one of those fitted along with the L123 UGL

There are less than 6 L85s in private hands and there will probably never be anymore. The factory that made them shutdown and the Germans had to mod them into the A2 version. Once they start falling apart (which is likely due to amount of use they got in Afghanistan) we will need a new service rifle. When they are ducked they are likely to be scrapped or given to a bunch of goat fuckers to fight whatever regime we don't like at the time.

People in training are insanely stressed out, and do a lot of stupid shit; not because they're inherently stupid, but because that's how much stress they're under.

If you hunt around you'll find videos of people misplacing all sorts of shit, like their grenade.

Shit, I read a story a few days ago about an Anon who lost his Humvee.
>>
>>28032261

>>
>>28032533
I was in the armed forces, one of the first things that got painfully drilled into us was to always keep the rifle within arms reach. After the first few weeks of basic training that lesson stuck even with the densest dumbasses within the unit.
>>
>>28032521

>>
>>28032659

>>
>>28030596

We called them "weapons" and "weapons systems" in the American Army too.
>>
>>28030551
Only a small batch got into the US in the 80's so they are extremely expensive and impossible to find. Also from what I've hard it isn't particularly a great rifle and the only people who seem to defend them are the Bongs (who 99% of the time have no experience with firearms unless formerly served in their military). Because of this nobody except the bongs who as previously stated have never used another rifle have used one, because of this we have no unbiased way to tell if they are any good.
>>
>>28031142
>>28031793
>>28032173

In my experience, losing weapons (at least in the Marines) Has a lot to do with going to the head. In bootcamp and at MCT you are not allowed to take weapons into the head. because people have pulled the ole full-metal jacket if you catch my drift.

What you're supposed to do is pass it off to another recruit/marine. But there's always some lazy shit that just leaves it with his other gear and before you know it another asshole picks it up because we're staging our gear somewhere else or they don't want an instructor to see an unattended weapon and then asshole comes back and is all "Where the fuck is my weapon"

And that's how you get a 6105.
>>
Likely just a few NFA versions floating around that will not see the light of gunbroker for some time.
>>
Maybe some day some company will do repros, like the Stg
>>
>>28032688
It's $1000 cheaper and lighter, and the red dot on the spectre has a different poi and its not a true 1x. Osx4 with a red dot on top is a superior cheaper system. Honestly 4x is low enough power to use up close anyhow
>>
I believe there are 2 legit NFA samples in the US. I forget the company, but somebody made a SA80/L85 kit for sale in the US. I've seen several of these come up for sale around $2000 completed on Gunbroker.

I've considered buying one when they pop up, but I have other priorities.

>>28036496

Seriously, people need to realize the Up oats, while good, is not a fucking firearms bible. The L85 is an okay rifle, SG 550 isn't some magic godly sniper rifle (same for G3)

In general everything is exaggerated, because, wait for it, it's not actually real life and is meant to be entertainment.

Why'd you scribble out the numbers on the back of the CQB mount?

It's just a NSN for the piggyback mount (903499-003), not a serial number. They're the same on all the sights
