do you want a separated kevlar vests AND a plate-carrier? Or would an armor carrier, as in a vest that incorporates soft-armor + pockets for plates do as well?

For the latter, you could grab a fairly cheap Interceptor Body-armor or IOTV from Ebay or such. Got couple of IBAs myself for mere 100 bucks a piece, and slapped in couple LV4 German plates I got for 80€ / a pair.

I wanted separate ones but I'm open to ideas
>>

Also wrote down your suggestion, thanks

in that case, choose your poison. There's dozens of valid options for both soft armors and PCs out there, with quite minimal differences nowadays.

Second Chance and American Body Armor are one of the better known kevlar-vest manufacturers. For PCs, there's AWS, LBT, Eagle... and numerous others, including some super-slim one shot products that could be used for concealed protection.

It really boils down what kind of design and cut you are looking for, does it need to have MOLLE loops for attaching pockets, will you be wearing both armors simultaniously, etc.

The cheapest kevlar vest you probably can get is that good ol' German flak-vest, that goes for like 40$ at lowest, but is a mere Level ~IIa tops. Some people buy two of them and jam both of their kevlars into single cover to double the armor, making a cheap ~IIIa, 360-protective flakjacket.

Well money isn't really a concern I just want some decent armor but I don't want to pay a premium for no reason if I don't have to. I would like molle on the PC and I did plan to wear them separately. As far as design and cut I really don't know, I have no idea about armor but as long as its somewhat comfortable for the short time I'd wear it.

Bulletproofme has good value police surplus vests for Level II 9mm/.357 Magnum and their new Aramid IIIA .357 SIG/.44 Magnum rated concealables are also great. $250-$400

Armor Wear also has a budget oriented IIIA vest, with plate pocket so you can just toss a chest rig or load bearing vest on top. $290-330 but $250-300 on sale right now.

If you're on a shoestring budget Fedarm has thin concealable vests for $205-$280 but they're UHMWPE, so they're thin, fairly stiff and hard to mold to the body, and muzzle blast can melt the vest panel if it's an extremely close shot.

You do at least know the NIJ protection level ratings? Pic related summarizes those, don't nerd too much about the shown guns and such.

The tl;dr -version:
-Anything under Level 3 = soft armor, meant for handgun rounds. Good for frag & buckshot too. Highest current kevlar helmets are still mere IIIa.
-Level 3-4 = rifle plates. LV4 should theoretically stop anything short of .50BMG.

When choosing plates for a carrier, you want "standalone" rated ones. As in: they don't need to be backed by kevlar panels to provide their promised protection level.

Curved plates fit on the human body better than flat ones. Not that there's even too many flat armor plates even available anymore.

For concealed everyday wear, a compact level 2 vest is good enough, since not too many thugs carry some .500 Magnum in their pants.

LBT is still running their sale. Wish I had the cash to pick this up right now:

You got source on that bomb as vest? Thanks in advance.
>>
PIG plate carrier and some good level IV ceramic plates.
>>
slightly off topic but do any police/federal agencies carry real AP ammo?
>>
>>28033898
Decently priced stuff is going to come from ebay, mostly soviet-afghan era. These are the two main guys I like to get stuff from, but shipping and occasional demil is a bitch, about a month and like ~$50 bucks. It would be cheaper to do a group buy sorta thing, so shoot me an email if you're interested.

Yes and no, most agencies on a normal day carry either HP or FMJ, but circumstances change that as they arise. I forget where, but there's a great documentary on South African special forces on their day to day activities, and one guy explains what they carry, specifically mentioning what you're asking.
