Can I get and opinion from /k about the CF-105 Arrow. A lot of Cucanadians think that this would have been an awesome plane. However Ig et the impression it would have been at best an above average interceptor.
Remember, that other nations were coming out with planes in the next few years after the Arrow program cancellation such as the. Mirage, F-4 and F-8 fighters.

Mostly Canadians are butthurt about it because it was basically the end of the Canadian aeronautic industry.
>>28021874
This. Imagine the F-35 but actually functioning, xboxhueg price tag and questionable application included.
>>28021874
Because amerifats didn't like that canada had a faster plane than them.
>>28021899
No, more like ICBM's coming online and nuke-bombers no longer being the primary delivery service for vaporizing your cities. That made the Arrow obsolete, despite it's excellent capabilities for it's desired role.
Jet itself was fine, but the role was dead.
>>28021874
>he end of the Canadian aeronautic industry.
But it really wasn't, though. Canadian companies did build and manufacture for foreigner for years.
Only good things about living in Ottawa. Our war museum is fucking awesome, the remaining pieces of the avro that didn't get scrapped are at the aviation museum, and theres a cold war era bunker 40 mins from my home.

Mach 2.0 isn't faster than "The Americans"
The Delta Dart and the Phantom could already go Mach 2.3.
>>28022041
>Mach 2.0 isn't faster than "The Americans"
Mach 2 isn't faster the the MiG-21 or Mirage III.
>>28021792
Well, it lives on in the mig25
>>28022188
>Mach 2.0 is comparable to Mach 3.0
Stop trying to make the Arrow sound better by trying to attach it to a more successful plane.
>>28022199
No, there were allegations that soviets were spying on its design.
>>28022188
In what way exactly?
>>28022221
And even if they were, the MiG-25 is in a completely different Mach-class than the Arrow.

http://www.canadaka.net/forums/canada-us-relations-f14/avro-arrow-program-full-of-soviet-spys-t24726.html
>>28022254
But every thing was full of Soviet spies.
Boeing or Lockheed would of had far more spies than Avro.
And how does that make the MiG-25 a descendant of the Arrow any way?
>>28022188
Besides its length. I don't see much resemblance. I see a better argument with the North American A-5 Vigilante.
>>28022368
I used to believe the meme until I realized the only thing they have in common is the general shape of the nose. Everything else is different.
>>28022402
The MiG-25 clearly has a nose wheel as well, just like the Arrow. Coincidence?

Here you go /k/, help educate the masses on DUDE WEED LMAO's aircraft choices.
>>28021792
It did lead in some way the idea of the XF-108 Rapier.
Tbh the maple syrups should begin design and building planes.

>maximum speed: mach 2
>cruise speed: mach 0.91

Seriously? This is the aircraft that Canada is so butthurt about?

>It did lead in some way the idea of the XF-108 Rapier.
Cancellation?

>Asking us to participate in a Disqus chat where the last comment is a day old
It's a combination of butthurt and delusions of grandeur. Essentially the Canadian version of pic related, but without the top half.
>>28022465
I know right, Canada had to do it without the help of Nazi scientists.
>>28022507
>Nazi scientists
Ouch!
>>28022445
Yeah that site doesn't have anything to do with the current government other than stat tracking election promises.
Anyone commenting there believing it in any way matters is a retard. Kinda like /pol/ for people with down syndrome.
>>28021899
other than the fact that the arrow was nothing special in terms of speed, and that the americans did have an objectively faster aircraft, the proposed XF-108 interceptor took a literal shit on the arrow in every possible measure, and even THAT got canned.
>>28022459
It's (Arrows) development was started long prior to the equivalent American jets, but had dragged on so long (and cancelled twice) that by the time the CF-105 Mk.II was starting production it was an average / mediocre interceptor.
Started as a kick ass machine, by cancellation time it was meh.
>>28022472
Ha, technically yes and no. The Arrow was canceled by the Liberals, resurrected by Diefenbaker, then cancelled again by Diefenbaker. It died twice.
And I am pro-AVRO, and pro-"Made in Canada" defence / military products.
>>28022876
>Muh XF-108
A blueprint & wood mockup.
Literal.
That is as bad as the "Muh Arrow Mk.III" fags.
F-106 on the other hand.
>>28023246
You completely missed the point of me even mentioning the Rapier, you fuckin mong.
>>28021792
The arrow program was a complete clusterfuck. Disregard that it was infiltrated to the point that Soviet spies actually had metallurgical samples, that the Arrow had shockingly poor range for its intended role, that the Delta Dart was already being made, that ICBMs were quickly taking over the strategic nuclear deterrent role, that BOMARCs had been offered for free with standard nuclear sharing for years to help plug in the gap AND it was still overbudget and delayed time and again.. Its primary armament was STILL not expected to be ready until 3 years after its original IOC and was constantly on the verge of being cancelled like its predecessor was (the Velvet Glove missile).
So you have a heavy interceptor that's not as good as it's competition, has poor legs for such a wide territory and would be expected to use antiquated missiles for its offense all while being over budget and behind schedule. There's absolutely zero reason why it should have been made.

I love that museum, I wish I still lived there myself sometimes.
