You are a PMC tasked as one of many to see a convoy of oil trucks through an area of arid and mountainous terrain, known to be crawling with well armed rebels, to a large government military facility.

The journey will last one week, with a 1 and a half day stop at a small military outpost en route (it's to be assumed you can worry about not being shot up in the night while there and it's essentially a rest period).

What gear do you take (food is taken care of ofc, as vehicles with food and other supplies are part of this convoy)?

>Logistics is provided by the convoy
>This means: accommodation, food, extra ammo
Assuming this, I chose a FAMAS spraying NATO 5.56, a multi-purpose blade and a Beretta as a 2nd weapon.
No wallet or personal bullshit is needed. It's all in the convoy or safe at my company's HQ.
Basically, my vest serves me as a plate holder and to store ammo.
My clothes are camo suited for the forest/rocky environment of the mountain area.
I keep a light backpack, with sufficient medical supplies and extra ammo, but nothing more than that. Just a few personal items.
Compass, GPS, and maps are mandatory -- even though I do not expect to lose contact with my unit.

I will be looking forward to viewing your responses (I typed in mine before reading yours).

Yeah, thanks for the fucks anon.
I know what a baseball cap is supposed to do.
However, it is certainly overperformed by:
- Brimmed hats (who also cover the back of your neck) or hat+bandana combos (they also have the plus of keeping flies away from your face)
- Helmets. Because, you know, having a proper helmet in a war zone is not the same thing as having a helmet when you're doing standard policing and bodyguard operations.

So, frankly, I don't see why mercs shouldn't be wearing proper helmets when at war.

Of course, anons in this board are posting things for fun and aesthetics. And I will never deny that a well-trained Op will perform better than an undertrained one even if provided with lower equipment.

But still... you could use a helmet.

Basically, I was watching this documentary on French operations in Mali (2013) and saw a Legionnaire operating a rifle with a large Magazine.

I am not an expert, but it struck me as the most reasonable thing to do when superior firepower is needed to pin the enemy in a designated location.

As a noob, I may have fucked up the type of rifle and mag, but I tried to mimic the closest thing to the one I saw in the clip at 36:55.

ENG:
https://youtu.be/QO3iXNtLkug?t=36m52s
FR:

I suggest you watch all the documentary. It's very interesting and made my Saturday arvo.

clearly youve never worn a tactical helmet for any long period of time. Theyre clunky and get it the way, let alone wearing one in an area with high heat. So hats are favored by sf or mercs who arent required to wear a helmet. And if they are then you'll usually see them wearing a phalanx helm. Those are some nice fucking helms bruh

Assuming I don't have to move too much, this covers all ranges. Bullpup DMR for mid to long range engagements with decent compact size for maneuvering on/in a vehicle. P90 for anything that gets too close, with AP capabilities in case some fuck actually manages to acquire a vest. And an MGL for technicals, MG nests, or clusters of enemies too close. Also gas mask in case of chemical attack, first aid bag if I need to help myself or someone near by, and knife if worst comes to worst and I have to cut a seat belt or a snackbar
>>
>>28017896
>clearly youve never worn a tactical helmet for any long period of time.
Actually, I own a Bundeswehr tactical elmet from the 80s, and I can tell you that after wearing it for hours your neck suffers greatly.

However, I don't remember seeing marines operating & being without their helmet.

I am not claiming they don't take it off, when there is no immediate threat. But it should always be with you.
>>
>>28017896
>>28017978

And this conversation teaches us you should never make assumptions about the speaker. You ought to argue on the content of the texts and not on what is in somebody's mind.
>>
>>28017978
the only personnel you would see without a helmet in a combat zone would be some sort of pmc or spec ops. marines/army and all normal dicks have to wear one. I wore one and it sucked and it sucked for everyone else, but Id take that over a grievous head wound any day

That is a belt-fed light machine gun.
A drum magazine isn't the most convenient thing to shoulder when loaded into a bullpup rifle.

But this confirms my point, right?

I said helmet was the most obvious choice in a zone of operations:
>>28017851
But then random anon appears and says helmets are rarely carried:
>>28017896
So I responded helmets might not be worn 24/7, but surely they're part of equipment:
>>28017978
Now you (another anon, I suppose) come to tell me everybody has them:
