why do you want a sword? Why not spend 20 bucks on a baseball bat instead? What are you gonna do with the sword besides defending your home with it? A good sword will run you 200 bucks easy. Why not just take that money and put it towards a handgun?

Trolling aside, that's a decent choice as an entry-level katana.
If for some reason you absolutely must use a sword for hd, a gladius is hands down the best choice. Good in both thrust and cut, and not so long as to be awkward in a tight hallway.

A thick bladed machete would be my choice if for some reason I couldn't have my far superior gun. It'll set you back less than $20. Even a really nice one wouldn't cost more than $50.

B. buy a standard length piece of rebar, a metal hacksaw if you are the kind of worthless yurocu.ck who doesn't already have one, and a roll of duct tape
C. cut the piece of rebar down to ~25"/personal preference
D. wrap ~6" of it with duct tape to give it an ergonomic grip

A katana is only a good weapon if you're trained in its use. As a matter of fact, I can say the same for most swords.
Get a good machete, club, tomahawk or baseball bat instead. Even a spear would be cheaper, if you've got a long hallway.
You can seriously fuck a katana up if you don't know what you're doing with it, and you have to baby it when you're not using it (which is most of the time). If my katana didn't have special sentimental value, I'd sell it.

If you absolutely have to have a melee weapon for HD, then you'd be better off with a mace, it's a lot more forgiving, don't have to worry about edge alignment, a lot harder to fuck up, and easier to care for, plus a good example from Windlass is a lot cheaper than an entry level katana. They don't have them at KoA anymore because of the Windlass purge, but they can still be had at Museum Replicas for $95.

Maces were a knightly weapon for a reason, it's silly to use it against unarmored people when other weapons give you reach and just as good wounding capabilities.

If you are American you can get one of these that I posted, depending on the state that you live in if you are barred from owning firearms. They are not considered firearms under the law (in most states). It also might depend on if you have a felony or not, but check your local/state gun laws.

A spear is good at keeping people away from you, and you can use the layout of your house to your advantage. The disadvantage is moving about with a long pole so It may or may not be a good idea depending on where you live.

Swords are much better at killing people than baseball bats and its harder to be disarmed. Even a shitty 40 dollar stainless steel wallhanger is a better weapon (for the several hard whacks before it breaks) than a baseball bat because of the weight and the edge.
You anti-sword fags seem to forget that swords are metal. And I'm not arguing in favor of home defense with swords at all, I personally use a full size handgun, looking at getting a 9mm SBR.

Depends on a lot of factors, one of the most prominent being skill. If your edge alignment is shit and you don't know what you're doing, may be better to get a baseball bat where it's far more forgiving with crummy technique.

I love swords, but using one for home defense is a bit silly. True, if the person(s) unlawfully entering your house are unarmed; or just have knives then you have the advantage. Short of that though, even if they just have slingshots or some gay shit, you will lose and die Anon. Do yourself a favor, spend about 150 dollars and get a crossbow, even the modern Chinese special forces still uses the crossbow. Don't die anon, get a projectile weapon.
