tldr: the ultimate knife thats a cross between self defense and outdoor/general use, under 500 dollars
hey /k/
Completely new to the weapons scene, but I'm looking for a good knife to carry around. I'm moving into a city with a higher crime rate and I'd like to get something to protect myself, but I'd also like to get something that helps out for when i go camping or trekking outdoors
Pic related, it's a multitool i already have
Bike jackets are remarkably useful for defence.
Save money that knife would cost by learning to use your hands.

How old are you?
Best self defense knife is a gun
Get a gun op

I'd say get some pepper spray and a Benchmade 940 as an absolute last resort. IIRC you technically can't carry a knife for SD in Washington so say you need it for general stuff.
Knife fights are quick and ugly and you do not want to have one.
>>27950946
That thing is like $10 less than the knife it's imitating. I'd spend the extra money and get a real m9 if I were looking for a bayonet.
>>27950964
ill look into this one right now
>>27950989
you mean from here? I'm willing to drop extra money but I just want to be sure its the best option

Yes, Ontario is the actual manufacturer of the m9. Make sure to get on Amazon or some such site, buying from manufacturers is like paying sticker price for a car. That being said, are you sure you want a bayonet?
>>27951065
honestly I'm a /little/ turned off because it's not full tang, but it is used by the military so it has to be good, right
Alternatvely, i've been thinking about this one too

(thanks for the tip btw)
A knife is a tool
Have fun getting shot when you pull a knife thinking you're going to defend yourself from Jamal.

I would avoid SOG, they've gone down the drain recently. AFAIK that particular knife is solid, but I've moved away from SOG in general.
Firstly, I'd say that if you want a bayonet then an M7 or the marine version of the m9 are solid choices. Second, I'd say that if you just want a big knife but don't really know what you want yet you could try Ontario's SP series. This includes just about everything you could want and they're inexpensive so you don't feel bad about using or losing them. The sheaths are shitty though.
>>27951229
They were always shit.
>>27951229
Not op, but do you have a link for the Marine version of the M9?
>>27951310
I wouldn't go that far. At the very least they made some good peoplecutters.

Live with it, nerd.
condor moonshiner/moonstalker
blade i got on my wishlist. 50ish on amazon. have seen them 44 elsewhere.
9inchs, 1/4, full tang with a dope ass leather sheath made by beaners. made elsewhere ur talking big bucks
>>27951229
i dont understand why people buy sog or crkt.In the exact same price range you can get a good spyderco or bench-made with superior construction and materials.I could kind of understand crkt, because they do have some nice designs but the values is not there.
>>27950964
>pepper spray
>940
fuck off nigger,i'm carrying those...
>>27951023
Yes thats the correct one but unless youre actually using it as a bayonet, dont get it.
>>27951102
Under $500 gives alot of room for better knives. Cold steel is good despite qhat people say. So is becker. If youre op then look at better stuff like benchmade, spyderco, or customs
>>27950770
Best utility knife bar none is the Leatherman Charge TTI
Best folding knife Benchmade imo

Why carry like 4 knives...
>>27951682
I'm tired of this fucking meme.
Serrations are extremely useful, and unless you're gonna cook or cut wood a lot, combo edges are the absolute best for general utility and military use.
+1 on the falkniven. These things are as tough as they say they are. Ive abused mine in every way imaginable and have only damaged the finish. And its not so expensive that ill be shitty when i inevitably loose it somewhere, like the half dozen benchmades ive lost track of over the last 2 decades.
>>27955542
Fällkniven and Busse are hands down my favourite brands. Busse for obvious INFI reasons, but Fällkniven because they're not only tough as fuck, but they also cut extremely well and are perfectly designed.
I can't say as many things about any knife's as I can about any Fällkniven, each models excells at a purpose.
>>27955507
>Busse
I'm not sure why that didn't spring to mind with a $500 budget.
>New to weapons
>Wants a knife for self-defense
Don't be stupid. If you absolutely want some sort of non-firearm for self-defense get a Maglite, it's basically a club that can dazzle someone at point blank ranges
