Would a war belt be good at supporting a bad back?
Im used to wearing a weight lifting belt and it helps my injury.

Just curious about the the belt supporting the weight of all the mags and gear as well as supporting back
>>
What are these war belts? Like a nylon version of leather police duty belts?

Bigger, covered in pals webbing for molle stuff.
>>
I think wearing them high enough to compress the lower spine and belly is too high for a battle belt, but that's not to say people don't do it. If you're doing a drop down holster you might be able to get away with it.

Regardless, it is a great way to load up without stressing your spine like a plate carrier or chest rig would. I would suggest that if your back is in that sort of condition, you probably shouldn't be doing the type of exercises that are used with those setups (or battle belts), regardless of how you're carrying <10 lbs of gear.

Battlebelts are nothing more than an updated ALICE webbing. As such it works pretty well. The gear's weight is mainly carried by your hips. A harness will keep the belt in place while walking.

Why not get a nice gun belt and put belt-mounted pouches on it?
>>
my quality of life has improved vastly since I moved my primary ammo from my chest to the rear of my belt. easier to run and crawl with.
>>
>>27944562
It'll probably sit too low to give support. However, it'll put the weight in a biomechanically stable area.
>>
>>27944646
>>27944562
I always ask myself: Wouldnt it be better to support the weight of a battle belt with shoulder straps or something that attaches to the plate carrier?
>>
>>27945880

ALICE harnesses tend to induce shoulder pain, don't they?
>>
I had to have two vertebrae fused at 17 because of a condition called spondylolisthesis. My case was pretty severe and full recovery was lengthy. I don't know where your issue is but mine was L4-L5-S1 and I can tell you from experience, no matter how tight you cinch up a duty belt or war belt, it isn't going to give you the support you're looking for. It will redistribute the load and you won't feel nearly as fucked when you lay down at the end of the day which for me is worth it . I've tried a few and the set up I run now is an ultralight back brace under my gear. It's the only way to get the support I need no matter what gear I am carrying.

There are a lot of cops with lower back issues because of wearing a gun belt
Many departments now issue load bearing vests
But if you want a belt then there are belt keepers that attach the gun belt to the belt in the pants
Or look for suspenders.
>>
>>27948170
LEO here, I think the biggest culprit is when officers wear gear on the back of their belts (such as handcuffs) or just have an insane amount of stuff on their belt.
I used to have cuffs on the back of my belt but it would be uncomfortable pressing into my lower back whenever I sat down in my patrol car (or really any other chair) and I think the poor posture resulting from that was more apparently because I was sore.
I think that over time that's what causes back issues. I never carry anything on the back of my belt anymore, even though that does make the front a bit crowded

My department by policy only allows a medical glove pouch between the kidneys

I switched to a single handcuff pouch behind the pistol and a handcuff strap in front at 1 o clock position

But we dont have tasers to take up space on the off side because lolNJ so its just mags, radio asp gun cuffs OC
>>
Posting in this thread because the gear thread hit the bump limit.

What do you think a battle belt should consist of? My set-up is based around having essentials on the belt with everything else in my backpack. I'm not a fan of chest rigs.

I already decided to get suspenders when I get the chance because I'm too thin for the belt and it keeps sagging. What else should I put on or remove?

Left to right: Ordered double M4 pouch, Universal pouch for scout rifle mag, nalgene pouch, ALICE first aid pouch, Leatherman Mut pouch, Ka-Bar, UM94 (GOAT) and pistol mag pouch.
Loose is a huge-ass utility pouch that was too heavy.
>>
>>27948302
Yeah I have a double cuff case at about 11 o'clock, it's much more comfortable.
>>27948518
My department got the taser X2 about a year ago and that's a heavy bitch compared to the X26. I don't even carry an expandable baton. I just have a wood baton in my car that I grab if it's daylight or my SL-20 if it's dark.
>>
>>27948545
If we had the options of carrying a taser i would probably dump the ASP and just keep a PR24 in my car i kind miss the ol straight sticks

Yeah, I carry a straight stick and it's pretty great. I don't carry OC spray (and most people in my department don't either) because I hate going hands on with people after spraying them and putting someone covered in that shit in my back seat.
>>
>>27948596
It's not bad, it's all crammed together to keep stuff off my back. Not a whole lot I can cut from it anyways.

>>27948629
It's all I've ever worn, but I sure wouldn't complain about a lighter belt.
>>
>>27947239
what if you're wearing a jacket? harder to reach those pouches then.

warbelts also let you use the same sort of stuff you wear on a chest rig or plate carrier.
>>
>>27948582
Did you cut the end of your belt off?
>>
>>27948534
i know that belt, i have it. it's not a super great belt man, and if you really want to carry everything on the belt, you're going to need a nicer stiffer belt to stop the sag. or buy a micro chest rig to move some of that stuff off the belt maybe.
>>
>>27948686
Yeah, the one I got issued when I started the academy was a bit too big, and I've started working out a lot more in the past year or so, I'm actually on the last set of holes on that belt.
Went from ~210 to ~195 and put on a decent amount of muscle, but that's more of a conversation for /fit/
>>
>>27948628
When im in my car or inside doing reports ill unclip the belt. It stays on me because of the keepers but it sort of slides of and the weight rests on the seat instead of my hips.

Well, $18 was $18, so I'm living with the consequences. I could just cut my losses, get a GI web belt, transfer some stuff there and get a micro chest rig. Any suggestions on the rig? Just something to hold a few pouches and won't get in the way of a backpack.

Asp

Taser
Two cuffs
Two mags

i mean, i have the belt too, and for holding 2 magazine and a dump pouch it's fucking perfect. but it's too weak to hold a pistol, especially (i assume) an all metal full sized pistol, and all the the other shit.
what you should do is save your pennies for a $80 hsgi suregrip belt or maybe get it while it's on sale next week if it goes on sale, but failing that, I know one anon got an alice belt, the blackhawk! alice belt pad and it works alright with all of his heavy shit. For the micro, ao chest rig. it's what i have, and ill take some pictures in a sec. 8x3 molle panel on your chest, so you could hold 4 single mags across your chest. it's $60, and then you could put pouches up there. there's also the blue force gear rig, 10 speed i think is the name holds like 3 or 4 magazines and has enough webbing for a magazine pouch on each side. fairly small rig. you could always do an lbv and integrate it with a web belt.

I have a few questions.
How do you make it easier to remember codes?
Would tazing and pepper spraying myself before the academy prepare me for the day when we have to do it?
What was the hardest part of your academy?

Forgive these extremely noob questions.

Before I go

How do you make it easier to remember codes?
My agency doesn't use 10 codes, we just say what it is over the radio
Would tazing and pepper spraying myself before the academy prepare me for the day when we have to do it?
Don't bother doing it. It's gonna suck regardless of whether you've been exposed to it before or not. No point to put yourself through it twice.
What was the hardest part of your academy?
I wouldn't call my academy all that hard, but it certainly dragged on for a while (6.5 months) and there were a lot of academics, especially at the start that a lot of people didn't really expect. You have to learn a lot of laws, rules of evidence, depart policies, etc.
>>
>>27948821
You don't have to shoot yourself to know your gun is effective
But remember pepper spray is 95% psychological

10 codes
Just use them
And your fto will probably test you
But only use 10 codes in non stressful situations
If you are fighting with a person, the last thing you should be thinking about is using the radio. And trying to think of a 10 code,

>How do you make it easier to remember codes? What do you mean codes? Like 10 codes? yeah its 2015, we dont use them anymore, NICS recommends clear radio comms to ease interoperability.

If your department is still operating in 1980 then just print out a small card and keep it in your shirt pocket, youll learn them quickly after usng them

If you mean like access codes for developments, write them down. Your most important tool is a pen and notepad

That's more likely because ALICE is impossible to adjust perfectly, so you have to sacrifice gear placement and balance, and has a tendency to run floppy. The Y suspenders are dog shit with nylon for padding. H was slightly better. Modern battle belts are straight up comfy and make it real easy to balance the load with minimal bounciness.
>>

>Modern battle belts are straight up comfy and make it real easy to balance the load with minimal bounciness.

Want. I would like a battle belt for range use to keep my mags close at hand.

I'm a giant. 6 foot 8, 300lbs. there are not vests or carriers that come even close to fitting on me.

I tell you this, so you can understand that I've got a lot of experience in using duty belts. I can tell you that i've tried about every possible way you could imagine to carry AR mags on a belt, and they all suck. use your belt for side-arm, knife, mags for sidearm, basic first-aid, etc.

I use a chest rig for my AR mags and it's worlds better than the belt. AR mags on belt take up too much room, make bending and moving awkward, and add awkward, uneven weight to your waist. it's annoying and it'll make your belt fit all fucked up.

You're not trying hard enough. I am taller and wider than you (although the latter is shrinking lately, thankfully). There is battle rattle that will fit men like us, and it doesn't have to be paintball shit like I use. Surp FLC's are universal for the most part, but there are large and small versions. Large ones can be adjusted to fit men of our stature.
