im looking for ideas on fortifications.

basically, something you could whip ut with, say, 12hrs notice of an incoming horde of dindus/isis/rabidclowns or whatever.

what fortications would you erect to protect your house? your street? your neighborhood?

Sandbags.
>>
>>27926581

Do you have a pickup truck?

Drive to home depot and buy as many Bags of all purpose play sand as you need

each one is 15x4x8 in

So to build a structure that is 5ft wide, with a depth of 2.5 ft and that is atleast 4ft tall you would need 60-70ish bags

Now you could just plolp 396.00+ tax and get 100 bags just to be safe.

Patton was talking about large, immobile fortifications like forts, castles, walls, et cetera.

Mobile warfare made fixed fortifications obsolete, as was seen in WWII.

Ad hominems are only ad hominems if they're true.

It's perfectly self-evident that ad homs must be true to be ad homs. Otherwise they're simply factually inaccurate at best, or slander at worst.

Dig a deep and wide ditch, pile all the dirt into a wall on your side of the ditch. They have to get into the ditch to get across and now that they're down in the ditch the dirt wall is even higher above them, and they cannot scale it easily.

I would have holes spaced out along wherever you want to block off. Have some steel poles connected by like a chain fence or whatever. When you expect some kind of incursion, just go out the steel poles in the ground and lock them to the base
>>
Depends on where you live.
I'd say you'd be hard pressed to fortify shit if you lived in say suburbia or a major city on your own.

In the case of ISIS if they want into your house then they're going to get in. Better off bugging out if something like that happens

This brings up a question i've always had

why were the Germans better at building trenches, bunkers, etc. during WW1? And probably WW2?
>>
WW1 field manuals had instructions on how to make a concertina roll out of barbef wire. Likewise old manuals talk about how to weave fsscine gabions out of brush wood. I've seen I structions on how to use concrete reinforcing mesh and tie wire to create gabions you fill with rocks. Tangle foot is a wire obstacle I've always thought held great promise for civilians fortifing a position. Bollards will stop cars and can be made with steel pipe or wood poles like telephone poles or rail road timbers.HUD has instructions on boarding up windows and doors of abandoned buildings you may find useful. Chain link fencing might make good window screening while allowing you to see and shoot out. If this thread is still alive I'll add more when I get home. Check out a blog called lizard farmer. He had a multi part series on fortifying a survival retreat, farm or small neighborhood. Also Google rhodeasian farmer defenses. Should get an article about how Rhodesian farmers hardened their places against assault by commie terrorist.

If you have time you can fill your own earth bags too, I have a decent bug out building that me and a group of 10 friends banged out in about 2 days. It is a sandbag house that has a wooden frame. We filled the sand bags up with the basement we dug.
>>
>>27926724
>>27926740
Razor wire will not get you in trouble, it is not a trap but a fence, although I prefer natures razor wire, aka blackberry bushes. Seriously If you want a good natural fence plant blackberry bushes.
>>
>>27927140
would it be stupid to build a fortress out of them like a bigger sand bag house? I want to build a massive fortress out of them now.
>>
>>27927958
Pour concrete over dune, your pile of sand is now a permanent and water proof structure.
>>
>>27926581

>>27928590
Two big points come to mind.

First, the Germans after the First Battle of the Marne were able to withdraw to defensible positions -- they got to pick where their lines were, and managed to generally dig in on the high ground.

Second, the Germans in 1915 were focusing most of their offensive efforts on the Eastern Front, so while the English/French/Belgians were digging temporary trenches in the hopes of punching through the German lines, the Germans were digging in to stay.
>>
>>27926581
That 12 hour prep time really limits your options unless you have heavy machinery.

You won't be making bunkers or anything, settle for barriers. Use pallets. Stack 6 feet high straight up, then each successive pallet gets offset 3 inches out from the one underneath. Final height is 8 feet, with the top 2 feet forming an overhang to prevent easy climbing.

Align all pallets so you can run 2X4s through the fork slots to lock the stack together. Anchor the whole assembly with 18 inch stakes of 1/2 or 3/4 inch rebar driven into the ground or pavement. If necessary, use additional rebar to pin a stack together. Cordless screwgun and sawzall are also good to help speed assembly.

If you have enough time, face your barrier with plywood. This makes climbing even more difficult. Then face the plywood with 1/4 inch sheetrock to give a good level of fire protection.
>>
>>27927975

that overhang is coming off in high wind
>>
HESCO style bastions would be the fastest method for one person building a fortification.

Anything else wouldn't be much.

There's only so much one guy can do in 12 hours.
>>
>>27929748

>>
>>27927975
>>27930118
Mind if I ask how much it cost? Me and my dad have been looking to build a garage on our property and that one looks perfect.
>>
>>27930198
It cost me about $12,000 but I have a friend who is an ICF dealer/contractor and I used buddy labor and did most of the work myself. If you look at the third and fourth pictures you can see a 1/2" difference in block thickness. That's because we used two different manufactures of block (I took what I could get). I had to fur out the gables for the siding where the block transitioned. Lot's of bartering and trading. Most of the engineered joist I used for the rear rafters were free (wrong size shipped to a friends job) and the loft deck is built on 4x6 pin oak beams another friend milled for me for helping him clear a woodlot. Generally ICF is 10 to 15 percent more than frame construction but you get an R20 or better wall with zero air infiltration and the strength of poured concrete. I live in the great Lakes snow belt and don't have any heat in that garage and it never got below 30 degrees in there for the past two winters. Yes, I did insulate the ceiling. If I ever build another house, it will absolutely be ICF footer-to-eaves.

>>27930451
Here's another picture that shows the two steel beams I used. One to support the loft and the ridge so I could clear span and keep the whole inside open. I hung a trolley with a 2 ton chain hoist on the lower beam for car work and whatnot. No need for any other posts or support for the steel other than pockets in the concrete. My father keeps threatening to move into the loft.
>>
>>27930451
>>27930606
That's awesome anon, thanks
>>
>>27930198
Also, ICF can be finished off a lot of different ways. My township requires that detached garages have to be finished to match the main structure so I had to do that. T111 would have been just fine otherwise.
