Thoughts on the Colt Python?
>>
Sexiest gun ever
>>
>>27925825
I used to like colt but once I learned to look beyond them just being pretty it was apparent they arent that good. It's all hype, s&w are better.
>>
>>27925825
i heard from a couple people that since they're older pistols the cylinder walls are thinner, and might create problems with modern ammo...i could just be talking out of my ass though.
sexy gun regardless.
>>
>>27925885
You're talking out of your ass.

>>27925825
They're okay. More collectors pieces now. The Smith and Wesson is the better over all revolver. A famous gun smith, whose name escapes me currently, once said "I've seen fewer smith and wesson revolvers out of time than I have seen colts in time". This is an exaggeration of course, but the Smith and Wesson is the must more robust action.

That buttery smooth action of a colt comes at a price of fragility and complexity. They're easy to knock out of time, but they're crafted like fine swiss watches. Relics of a bygone era of craftsmanship.

I'm a Smith and Wesson man myself, but I can appreciate a fine colt. It just depends what you're into.

Sexy as hell and I need one, but pricy as hell and therefore cannot justify one when my S&W 686 is just as sexy and 1/4 the price.
>>
>>27925825
The Python is a fine target pistol, but you'd be better served with its half cousin, the Trooper. Troopers are less smooth than Pythons, but they're more resilient and durable.

Its a handgun, so its weak
Its a a revolver so it doesnt hold enough ammo.
Dont understand the point.
>>
>>27925885
Not really. 99% of the factory ammo you'll see on shelves is loaded exactly the same as it was 30 years ago, since nobody wants to be sued for blowing off little Timmy's fingers.

It's more that you shouldn't go feeding it Buffalo Bore Nuclear Overpressure Nigslayers.
>>
Fragile action. Small, handfitted, multi-function parts. Only one point of lock-up at the rear of the cylinder. The action "stacks' through the DA stroke, and the single action is no better than any Smith and Wesson. Hardly anybody does repair work on the anymore- the Jungkinds of old are dying off. Cunningham who?

Over-rated, over priced.

Their barrels were good quality though.
>>
>>27926094

You must learn of the smolt. Smith and Wesson action with a colt barrel. I've shot one, they're pure revolver sex.

Friend has one. He also still carries around a New York carry permit from back when the pythons were made.

Tired of fucking hearing about them. They aren't worth anywhere close to what they sell for these days as actual shooting pieces. If I'm going to spend over two grand on a revolver it's going to be made in France or Germany.

>>27925920
>but the Smith and Wesson is the must more robust action.
And the Rugers are far more robust than the Smiths...

Shot a '70s era one once. The experience was sexual. I have no idea how much $$$ was in that trigger job. They aren't the easiest to work on from what I hear, but that trigger was like fingering pussy for the first time. If I'm ever not a poorfag, I will have one.

>>
>>27925974
Whereabouts can one find these nuclear niggerslayers you speak of? Hmmm?

I have... reasons.
>>
>>27925974
I thought modern. 357 was much less powerful than it used to be.
>>
>>27926094
This. I shot a python last year that disappointed the hell out of me with one trigger pull.
>>
>>27926900
This, Rotational Velocidensity of the 357 load has turned down the effectiveness from Elmer Keiths days to now by almost 50%.
>>
>>27926858
its called buffalo bore ammunition

the trooper, the python, and the grizzly were all standard police sidearms for decades. colts are robust and fine guns, however they are different from S&W in how they wear and they do require more attention to detail when making part swaps.

you seem that have somehow confused them with rohm 30's or iver johnson match guns.
>>
Nothing that any other quality .357 won't shoot just the same as with comfortable grips and a few bucks at a good gunsmith for a trigger job.

If you want it because you think it will be the most amazing revolver you have ever shot, prepare to be disappointed. I was when I shot my buddys Dads Python, and then his (of all things) GP100 Match Champion with some wood grips he made himself and a trigger job from a good local gun smith.

If you want it because it's a Colt Python, then go ahead.

TLDR as far as any perceived mechanical miracles go, there is nothing about it worth 2000~3000 dollars

Or you could just buy a Manurhin MR-73. Better steel, everything else is the same quality as a custom shop S&W.

Only thing better would be a Korth, but who has money for that?

In europe, they go for 1100-1200 euros new.
So about what we pay for a S&W686 custom shop.

still kicking myself over not being fast enough to buy those 500 dollar Police MR73's on AIM.

Sold out in minutes.

lots of external and holster wear but the internals and barrel were pristine.
