The 9mm v. .45acp argument is boring and played out. To liven things up here, let's address how .22-250 is clearly superior to .223.
>>
I know nothing about the .22-250 except that it's a blazing fast varmint cartridge.

Educate my dumb ass, yo

You're confusing .22-250 with .220 swift dumbass.

stupidly overpriced meme round.

tsk.

Although I don't own a dedicated varmint/predator rifle, if I did I think I'd want it in .25-06.

Tell me why that makes me a dumbass.
>>
>>27922924
I am >>27922898, and I actually like 22-250, but I am not going to argue it being better than .223

However
>stupidly overpriced

By what fucking metric you moron? Its stupidly overpriced because there isn't military surplus manufactured by Lake City for you to shoot? Just shut the fuck up retard.
>>
>>27922957
It doesn't

25-06
22-250
204 Ruger
223

All lots of fun with a nice heavy barrel varmint gun and handloading

It's overpriced because it's overpriced. Why are you so angry about this? Surplus ammo isn't the only ammo that's not a minimum of fucking 65 cpr.
>>
>>27922992
>it's overpriced because I say it's overpriced

Funny how that works both ways
>>
>>27923022
I must be missing something. How is it not overpriced?

How is it overpriced

Geeze you guys.

What he means is, it's expensive to shoot.

What the other guy means is, it is not more expensive than it's worth.
>>
>>27923055
it costs more than most other common rifle rounds, while not offering much more performance. you can get .223 for less than 1/3 the price.
>>
>>27923094
Because Herters Steel case are the same as 4000+ FPS hand loads and Hornady Superformance if factory Ammo is your thing

Right

To hell with .22 ARs.
.458 SOCOM ARs are best.

.250-3000 Savage would be the perfect round to use as a basis for a "universal cartridge" to bridge the gap between the 5.56 and the 7.62.
>>

>Herters Steel case
yes, because that's the only cheap .223. Please, be more of a fucking retard.
22-250 has a little more energy, and is a bit faster. If you think that's worth spending about 3-4 times the price, then that's all you.
For most people, buying a .22 varmint round for more than 30-06 is fucking stupid.

.458 socom is fun.
something doesn't have to be tacticool as fuck to be good.
>>
>>27923222

Interesting. What is the parent case?

Also, any reason you prefer this to the .243 and the .260 Rem, since both use necked down .308 cases and have nice BC?
>>
Look, here's the deal. There are a lot of shoulda-woulda-coulda scenarios when it comes to calibers. People say NATO should have adopted .280 British or 6.5 Swede, people argue and bitch about the .223 as well (which to it's credit was analyzed a lot more than 7.62x51/.308 ever was prior to NATO adoption) and sure there may have been some small advantage or another but people who make these decisions don't care.

As far as they're concerned, it's effective enough to do what it was designed to do so they adopted it quickly so that everyone else could standardize their weapons platforms around it ASAP and get on the same page. In practice, both sides of the iron curtain had problems carrying that out (looking at you, Czechs) but rapid standardization on decent calibers and weapon systems was the objective and it was to a great extent carried out successfully.

People who make these kinds of decisions don't really care that caliber X is Y% better at Z than caliber Q, they'd rather just standardize and shift focus on something more important like what kind of fuel can be obtained, stored, transported and used effectively in the widest variety of vehicles. Shit like that will make a much bigger difference than soldiers on one side being theoretically able to engage at 600m as opposed to 500.

>weapon systems

>>27923967
Like I said it never really panned out like planners hoped, they wanted an alliance where every member had totally interchangeable soldiers (training-wise), weapons and vehicles. There was even an attempt to standardize on a NATO pattern MBT-70 which quickly fragmented into the Leopard 2, Leclerc and Abrams, but most members ended up sing the Leo 2 just like they used the FAL. It's not exactly standardization, but it did save a lot of headaches for smaller countries that suddenly didn't have to develop anything locally and could just pitch in tax money/recruits and buy equipment off the shelf.

Com-bloc standardized a bit better because the equipment was cheap so there was often little reason to try to develop anything better locally, but a lot of the results were shitty and became outdated fast.

Superior how? If your only point is that it has more velocity/energy, then no fucking shit. I'll bet you've never even fired one.

5.45x39 > 5.56x45
>>
>>27923642

I think that 6.25x48mm would be the ideal dimensions for a military caliber. The .250-3000 Savage is the closest thing out there to those dimensions. You get a 6.5mm cartridge capable of over 3000 ft/s in package not too much bigger than the 5.56x45mm.
