hey guys i was slugging my mosin's bore with 1/8 slip sinkers and started with my russian 91/30 and it did not cut too well only the high part of the slug but i could not really make out the grooves and then i went to slug my finnish m39 and it WILL NOT GO DOWN AT ALL im worried if my m39 is undersized. i need help. pic related
>>
>>27919039
you can clearly see on the bottom right that you can only slug a psl rifle with those
>>
>>27919099
>>
>>27919039
Did you try a different one? Maybe your stinkers aren't manufactured to very consistent tolerances. Also, Finnish Mosin bores might be .308 or .310 instead of .311.
>>
>>27919149
i heard somewhere that the 1/8 is good from .305 to something i cant remember exactly but the tight tolerances do make sense
>>
>>27919149
o also banged the slug two times to widen it for the russian mosin but not for the finnish one. i also tried my tokarev it would not go either do i need three separate sizes?
>>
>>2791919 http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinSlug.htm i got how to do it from here
>>
>>27919218
should i just get a smaller size for the m39?
>>
>>27919039
Finn mosins are .308, which doesn't sound like much a difference but it does matter.

Bullets don't really care, though. Will still shoot fine.
>>
>>27920435
i was worrying that it would be tighter than .308 from what the slug was doing
>>
Do you have a set of calipers?
>>
>Shooting fishing weights.
Don't you worry about lead poisoning?
>>
>>27920562
yes i do don't you do that after you put the slug down the barrel? or am i wrong?
>>
i see some people use candle wax or cerrosafe and poor it down the barrel is that a good idea?
>>
Why would you even bother doing this to begin with?
>I GOTTA KNOW MY BORE SIZE
No you don't.
>>
>>27920827
oh im sorry i forgot to state that i want to reload for it

I don't know what the fuck is wrong with you people.

I use my cum to slug the bore

>>27920827
pretty legitimate thing for reloaders t b h f a m

>reloading for a nugget
I don't get it but if it's your fetish go for it.
>>
>>27920979
i was hoping my m39 would be around a .308 so i could use the same bullets for my swiss k31
>>
>>27921013
You can always use bullets for .303 brit/7.7 Moshi Moshi Nip Desu. They are about the right size.
>>
If you reload you can use .308 bullets. It tends not to be very accurate so .311 ish bullets are recommended.
>>
>>27921013
I mostly recommend D166 bullets from Lapua.
>>
>>27922587
and these work in any finnish m39 right?
>>
>>27922615
M39s are still chambered in 7.62x54r
>>
>>27922615
D166 bullets are the bullets used in the cartridges which the Finns used to test the D-barrel M39's. If your receiver is marked D near the Sako/VKT/etc mark, then it's meant to shoot both D166 bullets and Russian ammo, aka any 54r. M39's were sighted in with D166 bullets and they were the standard bullet used in ammunition provided to the Finns through the Continuation War.

TL;DR: D166 is a 54r bullet used with the proper powder load and cartridge to make a 7.62x54R round. It's the best one out there, supposedly. Lapua still manufactures them and they're available online for something of a premium.
>>
>>27922679
thanks. so basically i dont need to slug my bore right sorry if i sound stupid i dont want to hurt my baby
>>
>>27922679
oh almost forgot my m39 does not have the D mark
>>
>>27922695
Check your receiver. If it's D-marked, it's made to shoot both normal 54r rounds and D166 bullets. However, the D166 bullets are what the barrel was designed for: the D-mark just means that the throat was modified to accept both D166 and Russian ammo, the latter not shooting quite as well.
>>
>>27920608
..... Hopefully this was sarcasm
>>
>>27922710
Hm. I re-checked my sources. Apparently the D mark is the only way that it's reasonably safe to use the D166 round, otherwise the throat is opened just enough to use the Russian ammunition.

I'd avoid using D166 if your barrel isn't D marked. Sorry mate. It'd probably shoot fine, but it isn't ideal for the throat of the rifle.

>>27922726
ok that sucks but thanks for telling me that.have you heard if seirra matchking work well in it?

I have a 1912 number 17 nugget. Hell yeah I reload for it.

Pull the bullets from 50 spam can rounds.
Mix the powder together.
Drop it evenly into 50 brass casings.
Reuse spam bullets.

Still cheap as hell to shoot and I dont have to worry about corrosive shit.
>>
>>27922726
i may be wrong but i saw somewhere that they used the d mark early on then they just stopped using the d mark but it still can shoot d166. is this true or am i wrong?
>>
>>27922754
ive never heard of a 17 mark on nugget what does it mean?
>>
>>27922767
Serial number?
>>
>>27922743
Please see >>27922758 , I think this person's right. M39's in general should be capable of using D166 since that was the standard bullet used during the Continuation War. So even without a D marking you should be able to get better groups using that bullet.
>>
>>27922767
Its the serial number
>>
>>27919039
OP, knock that fishing out of your rifle the shortest way you can, measure ALL of your slugs and sort them by size, start small. Lead will not damage your bore. Punch that shit through and then you will know.
>>
>>27922894
ok im OP just another computer. im going to get a smaller size sinker for my m39 and hope it works
>>
>>27923117
i will try a 1/16 size and hope it works. also im using a wood dowel is that ok?
>>
>>27923136
Sounds good.
Also,
>>27920840
for no real reason.
>>
>>27923200
