Bill Ruger, gunsmith and gun company founder, was a massive fudd who would've been ok with the government seizing semi autos from all civilians. He refused to sell standard capacity magazines to anyone who wasn't affiliated with government. He did not think you or I were "responsible" enough to own non fudd firearms, and actively disdained selling his semi-auto rifle to civilians. He was only willing to do it because twenty round mags were almost unicorns on the open market. He did good things for the gun community, but he wasn't fully one of us.
Thankfully, his heirs carry no such prejudices and have turned his company into the powerhouse it is today.

As for the corruption, find evidence and you can bring it all crashing down for them. Find out if they did any lobbying directly to the legislators who wrote the bill. A good citizen journalist should be able to get to the bottom of it pretty quickly. Especially if you are a California resident.
