The SMLE shits all over Slav-shit Moist Nuggets

Why are MNs so popular?
>>
>>27907898
>Why are MNs so popular?
because memes are fun
>>
>>27907898
Because x54r and nuggets are cheap.
>>
Because Mosin Nagants and 7.62x54mmR is common and cheap.
Lee-Enfields are better in pretty much every other way.

I have one, though.
>>

Why buy Enfield rifles when theres mausers?
>>
Strayafag here, I've fired both a Nugget and my Dad's no1 Mk3, and I have to say i fininitely prefer the Lee Enfield. the bolt action on the Nagant feels clunky as fuck and it annoys me, whereas dad's no1 shoots like a dream
>>
>>27908094
PPU is $0.74/rnd, reloads are about half that.
>>
>>27908109
Not in Canada they're not
>>
>>27907922
It's not a matter of wealth. The Lee-Enfield is outclassed in it's price class, while the Moist Nugget was the best weapon in it's class.

If you want to buy a rifle for the money you'd spend on a Lee Enfield, you'd be better off buying something else. If you want to buy a rifle for the money you'd spent on an Nagant, you won't find anything better.
>>
>>27908112
>Implying Canada matters beyond hockey and maple syrup

Seriously though, can I just drive across the border and buy ammo? I know I can get those Tylenols with Coding and bring them back.
>>
>>27908122
Except no. Mosins are $200+. I can get a used Savage for that much, which is better for anything that isn't historically related things. Milsurp is once again the domain of collectors, as it should be.
>>
>>27907898
They're far more common
>>
>>27907922
I'm spooning a $2000 AR right now, regretting not grabbing that Indian Enfield while my LGS had it. Mosins are what they are, decent bolt guns with cheap, easy to find ammo.
>>
>>27908197
Nuggets with clean bores aren't hard to find for $150~ if you look around for one. Hell my friend got an m44 in her shop that was marked for $50 because it had worn out springs in the trigger mech. Don't be lazy and you can find great deals on milsurp.
>>
>>27908234
...

I can find a 57 Chevy for $4000 too, that doesn't make it the going rate.
>>
>>27907898
Cheap, easy to get and ammo is easy to get, I love the Enfield but getting .303 is a cunt sometimes, I blast with my nugget and use my .303 as treat, also took my first deer at 14 with my Enfield, my father keeps the picture of me with my rifle and first deer on his desk at home.

Fuck need to go hunting again soon, it's been too long!
>>
>tfw britfag
>Will never own an AR

Its an abstract sort of feel
>>

Because nuggets are cheaper to buy and shoot.
>>
you can shoot three rounds of x54r for the price of one .303Bong
>>
>>27907922
>implying
You can never have enough ammo, and if it's cheaper you are going to have more of it.

It's simple math.
>>
Does any non-auction site sell Enfields? (e.g., Aim Surplus, Classic Arms, etc.)
>>
>>27910318
Simpsons LTD does occasionally. But it's not a regular thing anymore.

The last time enfields were available on the primary market in bulk (albeit small bulk) were with the jungle carbines about 2 years ago.

Nope. The L42 is pretty much the pinnacle.
>>
>>27908108
Another Ausfag here who's shot both. The Enfield's action is so much better.
>>
>>27908537
What's the availability/price of 303 over there? Here in Ausfailia the surplus ammo has been gone for years.
>>
>>27907898
because the russians made 75 billion of them, so you can get one for about five bucks
>>

>>

>>

>>
>>27907908

Got my Mk3 for free in exchange for storing my buddy's guns. Finally got a complete stock after having to shoot it with the fore grip chopped and it's leagues beyond any Mosin I've fired. Buddy would go out to the range with me and take his Dragoon and Carbine every time. Fun as those guns are, the SMLE is just plain better.

Fact that we built it for the price of a Mosin is just gravy. Also,

>buying .303 at $1.30 per instead of waiting for surplus at below x54 prices

Faggots.

America got a shipment from greek this year (sold by CTD). That said, the prices were not cheaper than nugget food (even the prices of surplus nugget food now). It was like 45 cpr, and like 25 cpr for the "blem" lot.
>>
>>27914468
It's a full sized rifle round, it'll do that.
>>
>>27914493
Clean it for him dude, it's not too complicated, just look for a takedown vid AFTER you find the correct model.
>>
>>27914510
What is there to clean on a enfield besides
1) Wiping out the mag housing
2) Wiping down the bolt
3) Wiping down the bolt housing
4) Doing barrel pull throughts?

I'm not going to disassemble my bolt or clean under the handguards unless I drop it in a river.
>>
>>27914534
Well he said that he's cleaning it for someone and it might've not been stored/cleaned properly so a more extensive cleaning might be necessary .
>>
>>27914534
>>27914563
Oh nvm, I was just thinking about the bolt, which is taken off differently in different models, just so he doesn't damage something like the rear sight.
>>
>>27914510
>Clean it for him dude

Nah. I'd be so fucking pissed at myself if I lost a part or something. I don't know anything about the guts of LE's
>>
>>27914594
1) Take out bolt, clean it.
2) Clean metal around it.
3) Clean barrel.

All you gotta do, no screws no small parts.
If you're really worried about that, then don't.
>>
>>27907898
>Why are MNs so popular?

Because they were $69.99 ten years ago, under $200 today, and the ammo was/is equally cheap. That's it other than the GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR FOR MOTHER RUSSIA stuff.

Functionally it's one of the most crude and unpleasant rifles from WW2. I was all set to get one of /k/'s meme guns but then I fired one side-by-side with a Garand and I'm like nope.jpg.
>>
>>27914627
>If you're really worried about that, then don't.

Exactly.
>>
>>27914502

I picked up the Greek surplus and it's been fantastic. Even with the horrible corrosion, shit fires like a dream. You are right, I exagerated on the price a bit, but .303 is not that bad if you shop around.
>>
>>27914640
I mean it's reasonable to be worried about another man's firearm, but if you know your way about bolt actions it's a breeze. Best of luck in any case.

>>
>>27908098

>>
>>27914681

I don't like the things to be honest. I've fired two 91/30s (one was a PU) and it was like shooting with a garden tool. Now when I'm at the range I feel like a jerk, but when a guy with a nugget asks if I want to swap guns for a minute I politely decline.

>rear mounted locking lugs

the Enfield is a superb rifle, but the M1917 is better in every way EXCEPT for a 10 round removable magazine
>>
>>27914471

CTD had some Greek surplus kicking around a while ago. Bought around 1000 rounds on clips for 28c/per shipped. Some of the boxes had some nasty looking surface discoloration/corrosion but nothing that has made me ditch a round and theyve all fired just fine.

Enfield thread?

bumping with my No.5

On another note, I was able to get 960 rounds of greek HXP surplus for around 25cents/round off of cheaperthandirt a few months ago.

They're more expensive than they used to be, but they're still the cheapest milsurp rifle you can buy.

I'm getting a ROF Malty No. 4 Mk I with strong rifling, tight muzzle. But it has 'light frosting' throughout the bore.

What does 'frost' mean? If it's something bad, how bad will light frosting effect my Enfield?

I think ITAR would probably fuck you hard as well as whatever arms embargos you guys have. Lke the Chinese ammo, if you tried to take that back with you I think you'd get fucked.

Plus you would have to have at least a Possession Acquisition License here in Canada.

I have pic related Finnish M39. It's accurate even with crappy 1940s surplus ammo, and in immaculate condition. I've shot plenty of guns including an M1A, for me the Mosin just feels right out of all of them. I did need to get a slip on recoil pad since the stock is a bit short for my arms, but I don't know why people make threads to just shit on a good model of rifle that served the countries and people that used it very well for over a century. This thread is just another case of "You can't like what I don't like."

You could apply the same logic to cars. Why drive a cherry red 1965 Mustang convertible when you can drive a new Mustang?

Not everyone wants an M4, some people prefer the aesthetics of an older rifle, as well as the experience of shooting it.
>>
>>27907898
MNs are only popular because they used to be barely $100, with dirt cheap surplus ammo.

Enfield's are better rifles in nearly every way, but they cost twice as much (300-600 instead of 120-200) and even cheap PPU ammo for em costs almost $1 per round
