For awhile I knew that people shot .32 S&W Long in their Nagants so I went to test it out.
And the results are in, I lived from it.
But I don't see the point, 7.62 Nagant is not that much more expensive so...
Also I don't think shooting the magnums in it would probably end up with the shooter missing some body pieces.

How is the M1895 Nagant. I've heard that they're pretty terrible revolvers and the only cool thing about them is the gas-seal system.

there was a webm of some guy fumbling around trying to reload the gun that summed up how bad it was.
>>
>>27897794
They are pretty terrible revolvers.

Stupid, foreskinned, ultra-anemic round aside, they have the world's worst trigger pull in both DA and SA, the rear sight is nonexistent, and they have a weird grip angle that somehow magnifies the recoil and muzzle flip far beyond what the caliber should produce.
>>
>>27897794
Awful.
Even a Russiaboo, Engineering geek and non poor fag regrets the 100 I spent. It's that bad. I really want to like it too.
>>
>>27897794
Mechanically its fine. Reliable, somewhat accurate.
Unloading is a bit tedious with no spring on the ram rod.
The trigger is what everyone has an issue with.
You need to be a russian bear to shoot 7 rounds out in double action.
It does have the gas seal, so you can actually suppress this revolver.
Its a nice piece, I got mine for $150, but somehow they are now $300-500.
Also ammo is pretty expensive.
>>
>>27897836
>but somehow they are now $300-$500

Who the hell would pay that much for one? Even bubba would know better.
>>
>>27897845
I CANT FIGURE IT OUT
I looked the other day, and people want stupid amounts of money for it.
>>
>>27897794
If you want one that is actually good, you look for the target versions, which are pretty hard to find. I've only seen the 22lr version on gunboards once for 500 bucks about 3 years ago.
>>
I'm pretty happy with mine.
Like I said, it cost me $150.
Came from 1945, great condition.
It's something that you kinda don't shoot often.
Lee makes reloading dies for it, which I plan on buying I'm interested in how the bullet seating works.

now is best russian sniper gun
>>
Why is it that everyone thinks the trigger is the hardest thing in the world to pull? Maybe it's just mine, but it's not that hard to fire off all 7 rounds quickly. I can feel that the trigger is heavy for sure, but when I actually am shooting, it's barely noticeable. It is likely that mine is defective though, because it also shoots REALLY high, doesn't cycle properly most of the time, and the casings get stuck a lot.
>>
>>27898392
I would imagine most people either have never shot it themselves, are haven't shot any gun with a shittier trigger.
>>
>>27898392
>why does everyone think a 20lb trigger is bad?

>>27898569
i mean it wont accidentally go off on you

Let me give some of you kids a history lesson.

Several (pre-Obama) years ago, you could get these revolvers from AIM and a handful of other surplus retailers for $90-125. The ammo was available but we always joked that the ammo cost more than the gun, and this was before Prvi started making a bunch of it. Also some surplus has been discovered in recent years that wasn't available.

Well, back then, out of Shotgun News, you could order one of these conversion cylinders for $75-90. and for under $200 you'd have a nice .32 caliber firearm. But these were .32 ACP cylinders.

https://www.buymilsurp.com/cylinder-32-acp-replacement-m1895-nagant-revolver-p-476.html

It's been years since I've had one, but options for .32 S&W and S&W Long were available too.

But now those cylinders if you can find them sometimes hit 200+ on eBay, surplus food is much easier to find, and the guns are too damn high anyway now. The only exception are non-import marked guns and you have to be really careful about those.

The appeal of the gun back then was that you could have a solid all-steel revolver on a budget. One of the first guns I bought, because the other options in that 100-150 range were usually rusted old H&R's and Iver Johnson's, maybe a Taurus or other Brazilian import. Combined with a conversion cylinder and you had a reliable truck gun. I carried one for years that had the hammer bobbed down and the barrel hacksawed. Great pocket gun too.

But if you want a revolver now, guns a lot cheaper. Taurus revolvers just outside the $200 range and decent quality. No reason to buy a Nagant unless you're wanting it as a collectible or an oddity.

>ultra-anemic
the military 108gr surplus that's available these days is .38 spc levels of potent
SA trigger is a good trigger other than being godawyful heavy
grip angle isn't bad nor is recoil

accurancy concerns, awful DA trigger, and dumb gas seal system complaints are valid
>>
>>27898392
this
P64s have worse stock DA triggers
>>
>>27898967
You seem to know what you're talking about.

How much is a fair price to pay for these oddities now in the original 38 caliber?

Ammo seems to be at a decent price of about 30 cents a round, depending on make and quantity of course.
>>
>>27900487
Seriously, I have never seen a worse DA trigger than the P64. I had to use a torque wrench to measure mine, and it was 32 fucking pounds. Single action is quite nice though.
>>
>>27900608
SA is 4-6 lbs stock
I got the 18 lbs hammer spring and brought SA down to what I estimate to be 3.5 lbs
DA feels significantly less than my Nagant but still bad
much smoother though
>>
maybe if the hearing protection act passes i might buy one to suppress

I've shot .32 H&R Magnum out of mine. It bulged the cases, but it works.

I picked mine up in 2009 for $150 which included the holster, accessories and a 50 round box of Fiocchi ammo that retailed for $30 at a time when a 50 round box of 9mm was less than $15 .
>>27898967
This anon has the gist of it. It used to be a way to get into a reliable steel revolver for less than $200. Now it's more of a curiosity.

One thing you can do with it is practice you double action shooting with it. If you can shoot a Nagant accurately in double action, you can shoot anything.
>>
>>27897997
I'm imagining this thing with a can on it and heavy subsonic ammo.
>>
>>27900480
It's suprisingly close to 9x18. .38 is a bit of a stretch.
>>27900588
Its not .38, its .32.
And by "fair" do yo mean "what it should cost" or "what they go for"?
Should? $200 for an interwar, less for wartime, more for czarist.
Do? $300 for a wartime.
>>
>>27897826

I'll take it off your hands for $150.
>>
>>27897774
all you get with shooting .32 S&W L out of it is bulged brass, and spray with unburnt powder.

This revolver is what actually got me into reloading.

After years of developing loadings,I've found that 3.5 Grains of Trail Boss and a 115 Grain Cast bullet is a good light load that still can penetrate. and a good hotter load of 5.5 Grains of 4756 with a 98 grain hard cast bullet.

all loaded using resized .32-20 Brass.

Since 4756 is getting harder to find in my area, I'm thinking of trying Universal, and now I'm back to square one with load development.
>>
>>27902444
correction 5.1 grains of 4756 not 5.5

>resizing .32-20 brass for a Nagant revolver
I think I just found the most valuable guy in the Metro.
>>
>>27902444
Do these rounds seal between the cylinder and the barrel? Or is there still a cylinder gap?
>>
>>27903007
If you keep the oal the same as 7.62x38, if creates somewhat of a seal. Once the cylinder moves forward, the bullet is in the forcing cone. Is it perfect? No. Does it create shootable ammo with more bullet choices than slow hotshot/privi/foichi? Yes and in mine, it is more accurate. Also factory brass ammo from those 3 are pretty slow.
>>
i could probably reload all the ppu brass i have

I fooled around with .32's in my Nagant years back. Bulged and split cases everywhere.

Hell of a flash with the .32 H&R Mags.
>>
>>27905008

Why does this happen?
>>
>>27905189
Tends to be a thing when chambering the wrong ammo in a gun.
>>
>>27905228

Obviously, dick, thank you, but why specifically? I'm not well educated on things like this. In my head split or bulged cases are caused by overpressure, but is it because these rounds (and their powder loads) were designed to compensate for pressure ventilating from the cylinder gap that isn't there on the Nagant due to it's design?
>>
>>27905267
it's because the Nagant has oversized chambers
they have the same diameter at the mouth, but the Nagant ammo is longer and has more taper
so the amm isn't supported by the chamber walls, so it bulges and splits
it's not dangerous
normally bulged cases are a problem because it means the action is opening early
>>
>>27905023
That's awesome and terrifying.
>>
>>27905294

Thank you

>>27905228
See? Was it that hard?
