They are just an infantry unit. No one says otherwise but they are one of the best infantry units around. The UK regimental system likes to celebrate unit culture and local links which also makes gurkhas very distinctive.

When they go anywhere, they bring around 20-30 hand made and razor sharp kukris as well as some other kit to sell, so they can fund their own events and get on the piss without digging deep into their own pockets. They gave a mounted ceremonial kukri to the Battalion which the CO accepted graciously on our behalf. Our Gurkha mates received a similar gift from us. We cracked a few beers. The CO's second wife was present at the function. He cheated on his first wife, married the woman with whom he cheated. Then cheated on her, too. I digress.
So they get in a bit of a tiff about halfway in, she storms out because she's had enough of the night and want to go home. He storms out after her. Meanwhile, we're all watching out the corner of our eyes and feeling pretty fucking embarrassed and our RGR mates feeling embarrassed for us. The CO left behind the kukri. One of the Gurkha lads picked it up and made to follow him out. Look on his face and some of his mates was of utter ashtonishment. It was a gross disrespect to the RGR and spat in the face of all our collective work.
