i'm slightly worried about it because the blade doesnt have the traditional notch near the base to help regulate bend..
You like yours though?

I'm also thinking about getting this one instead. idk...
http://nepalkhukurihouse.com/57/11-Inch--Black-Hunter-Sirupate-Lion-Kukri.php
>>
>>27843429
The notch is symbolic, the modernised one you posted above still has a cutout which makes sharpening 10x easier it just doesn't include their religious symbol.
Yeah no regrets with mine.
>>
>>27843429
>>27843478
Also just so you know, these guys are thick/heavy, they weigh similar to a small hatchet and perform like one, don't buy one to be a machete unless you're looking at the Sirupate's
>>
>Blade thickness : 10 MM.
That's gotta be heavy.
>>
>>27843478
does the knife ever feel like its slipping out of your grip? the hilt doesnt have an extended butt to catch should your grip loosen slightly midswing.

Get one with a wide end at the bottom of the grip. That wide pommel area is integral to the way the knife works with your wrist and hand during a chop.

It will if you don't get that wider bottom part on the handle. I've bought one without and immediately hated how unwieldy it felt. I have since learned that the traditional handle it VERY much there and shaped that way for a reason.
I've taken a kukri through the jungles of the Phillipines, hawaii, and the swamps of fort Polk Louisiana I will never use another tool like it the rest of my life.
One thing to note though is get a smaller one if you actually intend on taking it somewhere and relying on it. Mines a 10" and it has performed just as well with more control as my thicker, longer 12".
This is right after the left one got cleaned from Louisiana and the one on the right was completely encased in rust from being left in the trunk of a car and rained on.
>>
>>27843870
I also made the sheaths from the ones kukrihouse gives you. I cut off the goat leather and sanded the bamboo boards for a tighter fit, then I covered the outsides in gorilla glue and smother it out, spray painted them then did another layer of gorilla glue but added camo from an old bdu jacket I got issued during jungle school wrapped it in some 500 chord with Alice clips to attach to shit and boom doesn't fall out when I turn it over and it's camo and water resistant.
>>
It's not a khukuri if it's not from nepal.

Get an OG one from our mountain niggas south of china, you will not regret it.

Also consider donating to the trust that looks after the guys who make the khukuris. I think there is an option to add on a few dollars to donate to them.

But a lot of the blades that Gurkhas have actually gone to war with in the past hundred years, were made in the UK.

Either way, the military ones tend to be made of cheap shit like recycled leaf springs

Personally no, I went with that handle style after having used a more traditional style, less hotspots and shock in hard use and if you're concerned then use paracord. IMO though a Kukri is all in the wrist, so the load on your hand is less than a straight bladed machete.

>>27843535
Yeah, my 11" is around 700gm/1.5lb so as I said in an earlier post, they don't make a good machete, they're for wood prep rather than brush clearing.

I would, were I inept enough to let my knives get rusty and subsequently cut myself with one. You may not maintain your tools and you may slice up your fingers, but try not to project your shortcomings on to everyone else.

Also, your car is a tool, you're an idiot if you don't take care of your tools no matter their cost, guns having moving parts has nothing to do with rust and corrosion prevention, and your dumb ass managed to misspell mongoloid when you could've just copied it from my post.

Busse has a modern version of that for richfags

Cold steel has a low tier version as well.

If you want a legit one you might want to look in Albion swords or some reputable sword brand.

Maybe Windlass has an affordable one

More carbon means the blade is more brittle. It doesn't add any extra hardness because steel hardness tops out at ~1.5% carbon anyway.

I only really use the A1, the Mora and the Busse.

All three of them come with excellent factory edges. Changing the geometry would be ruining them.

Spyderco Perrin is sharp as is.

Other than that sure, they're just dust gatherers. They can have the factory edge.

Kershaw Leek.
Factory edge.
It juliennes wax paper, which is tougher than newspaper.
Now tell me again how the Kershaw Leek doesn't have a sharp edge out of the box?
>>
>>27850745
Carbon still forms carbides with the iron and carbides make the steel more abrasion resistant. As far as the brittleness comment, if you're making a simple carbon steel then you are correct but brittleness is effected by other alloying elements in stainless steels like Molybdenum and Silicon and the process the steel is made with, particle metallurgy increases a steels strength simply through grain refinement.

The old rules of carbon content only apply to old steels these days.

>>27850474

>It juliennes wax paper, which is tougher than newspaper.

That's the point of the newspaper test, it isn't tough so it takes a very light touch to cut it without tearing it,

The Leek can do that too. It's passed every sharpness test I threw at it with a factory edge. It passed the onion test. It passed the fingernail test. It passed all three paper tests. It passed the shave test. It's a sharp knife out of the box.

>>
>>27852611

Yes, because you would clearly know the difference if you think any production knives comes sharp and without a weak, over buffed, belt grinder applied sharpening that probably weakened the heat treat under it. Most new production knives need to be sharpened a few times before they show the real performance of the steel.

At least custom knives are hand sharpened and usually actually do come sharp and with an edge that hasn't been weakened.
