No, that's a real thing. It's mostly an issue with the threaded FSBs, threaded barrels are usually fine. Most of the AK-specific suppressors on the US market are 14x1 L for that reason.

Yes.

There's a reason they're completely shit at actually suppressing anything.

Hell the vaunted 9x39 subsonic through the mystical AS VAL's 2-foot-long integral suppressor is still louder than 5.56 from a 14.5" barrel unsuppressed, because it's literally 4 washers tack welded to the inside of a tube.
>independent testing shows that the AS VAL has a sound signature of 158dBa by normal testing procedures
>independent testing shows that military-issued SP6 ammunition had such poor quality control MV's ranged from 525fps to 1480fps (supersonic) from the same lot through the same gun
>>
>>27840692
I went to a suppressor demo a couple of weeks ago at a gun club.

There were a couple of AKs there with 30cal cans on them.

I'm sure the ammo was still super sonic, but it was not even a little quiet.

Putting a suppressor on an AK is basically totally pointless.

It's a waste of time and money.

Wonder if the SP5 has any stricter QC. Sadly I've not been able to find any independent testing on it and the very small amount of Russian-gov testing had it showing unrealistically consistent results (hey this round, despite being steel-cased and showing blatantly obvious variances in bullet uniformity that are so obvious it's clearly visible in these handfuls of standard-def YT vids, seriously have a less-than-half-m/s ES and 1/8th m/s SD across 10,000 rounds really guise plzbeliveus!)

does this include 5.45 and pistol caliber AKs?
>>
>>27843036
the best indicator of if a weapon/caliber is worth suppressing is if it has sub-sonic ammo

Just like suppressing a 223/556 is pointless. Subsonic ammo for it ends up being worse than .22LR. Also, just good luck finding subsonic 223. At least 556 is quieter when shooting supersonic, but 762 out of an AK was still loud as fuck.

so for 5.45, I would say probs not

pistols are different, they are much easier to suppress
>>
>>27843036
also, piston guns might also be louder due to more moving parts. The piston whacking probably makes noise.

a DI AR-15 on the other hand wouldn't have that

I have a 300 blackout SBRed AR. If you actually want quiet, this is what you should be thinking about, honestly. Not an AK.

>SP6 doesn't have enough case volume for supers
Unless they use a small flake or ball pistol/shotgun powder. Or are so fucking horribly inconsistent on their QC that projectile dimensions or case dimentions would allow some cases to have significantly more volume than others.

The latter is absolutely true, at least with SP6. Google 9x39 sectioned rounds and you can literally see the variances. The former is most likely true because that's what most heavy subsonic rifle rounds use (subsonic .308 typically uses Red Dot, a 12/20ga shotgun powder, most popular .300blk loads use H110 or Lil'Gun, a .410 shotgun powder, some use 3000MP which is a magnum pistol powder....).
>>
>>27843416
Yeah that does.

The typical Russian suppressor, such as the PBS-1 (which is so old it would be like the US military still using a Maxim suppressor) or the integral cans on the VSS or AS Val, however, favored simplicity and durability over performance and weight (unlike American cans). They're fucking horrible at reducing sound signature but run almost a zero percent chance of a baffle strike and have pretty decent mounts.

With supersonic ammo it's really not much of an issue. The biggest benefit is they're the world's greatest flash suppressor, and as a main combat arm quiet is both relative and not that important.

However, it's a shame the suppressor on the VSS/AS Val is so shit though. That round has SO much potential to be extremely quiet, and then they use the cheapest, shittiest, longest, heaviest can they could on it.

Listen to this guy.

At least in my country the armed forces don't even call them "sound suppressors", but rather "signature suppressors"

The reasoning behind this is that if you remove all the muzzle flash so that you are harder to spot while shooting, and as an added bonus get some sound suppression as well that is great news. (and also the recoil reduction of course)

I was shooting FA with an HK 416 equipped with an B&T suppressor last week without earpro. While I would not recommend doing this over a long period of time it shows that you get enough sound suppression that you may maintain verbal communication methods without screaming like a madman.

I have a question regarding supressors that doesn't belong in its own thread. Now, take in consideration that I'm nogunz hailing from a country with poor gun culture, so I apologize if it sounds stupid. Anyway, how much use can supressors take? Do they have a durability cap like in the MGS series? Or will they last for thousands of rounds through it on end?
>>
>>27847324
Old suppressor had disposable rubber wipes that would deteriorate quickly. Modern suppressors are all metal (stainless steel, inconel, titanium) and will last an extremely long time. Metals can slowly deteriorate but it takes thousands of rounds. But if you shoot full auto the heat could damage the suppressor.
>>
>>27847324

Depends on the suppressor.

If they are made from steel/titan they can probably outlast your gun if you take good care of it.

If they are made of aluminium or something similiar (to obtain lighter weight) they will not last as long, and they will last even shorter if you do any rapid firing with them. (because of the heat)

22lr supressors can also last pretty long.
I remember one time I were shooting with a friend who had a semi-auto 22lr rifle with suppressor.

that suppressor had been in use both on the range and in the woods since the 70's and were still going strong. (a little less effective then the new one I had on my rifle, but still pretty good)

With that said I do not know if things are different with .338LM and similar caliber supressors.
>>
>>27847352
honestly, if the suppresor was from the 70s, then design rather than wear might be an explanation for inferior suppression

suppressors have advanced a bit in the past several decades

>>

Suppressors still make noise, anon. Especially with your Walther, suppressed blowback operated guns are a hell of a lot louder.

Also, capped at 50 rounds a month and you chose 32 ACP? I know everyone there uses it, but why'd you choose it over 380?

You could probably get a quick-detach suppressor and a permanent muzzle break, but it will be easier in every way to thread the barrel.

Again, blowback, but you should be able to find factory or third party threaded barrels for it.
>>
>>27841116
Nope. Can't speak for the rest of Europe, but they're unregulated in the UK, in fact the government encourage their use to reduce noise pollution.

It was robbers gang nicknamed yellow chrysanthemum gang. True that flowers were their calling card to make people less suspicious with shooter actions (robbers have seen this in spy movies). This gang chose to leave no witness and always shoot managers of stores first during robberies. Also any other witnesses though they choose time and place accordingly and don't encounter many of them.
>>
>>27847832
I'd personally go with a Silencerco.

The Omega offers the most sound suppression while also being one of the shortest (if you remove the muzzle brake on the front of the can), but is expensive.
The Specwar is only marginally louder while being half the price, but it's heavy and long. It would probably give the most accurate "feel" to a Russian suppressor.

All Silencerco rifle suppressors are available in the 14x1LH thread pattern that most AK's have.

MN here, new to the suppressor club. Lurking for interest for AK varmint hunting.

Anyone able to suggest some nice brakes or flash hiders for 7.62 14LH that are suppressor-friendly?

>suppressors and full auto are a-okay
Bullshit, got a friend who lives over there. He says it's a lot harder to get a suppressor and a full auto- but it depends on your region. Even if you live in the most lax state in switzerland, you need a SPECIAL permit to own a suppressor, full auto, grenade launcher, etc. But you have to go through a shitload of loops. Now let's say you already have a special permit. The full autos cost A LOT. My friend said they are more expensive than the US. Now let's say you have enough money to afford one, you buy it, and you want to shoot it- OOPS YOU CAN'T SHOOT YOUR FULL AUTO/ASSAULT RIFLE WITHOUT PERMISSION LOL
On the demand, you have to mention where you go to fire, as well as the date and the hour. This authorization is valid for all full automatic weapons which you have, but only the day and the hour was mentioned on the authorization.
The violation of this rule (if you are taken) will cause dramatic consequences: all your firearms (all, not just full automatic) will be seized, without exception, and the ban on any future acquisition.
You ALSO have to pay for the authorization.
On top of that, you can't carry around weapons, whether it be concealed or open.
