It does when you have a standard one with no detachable mags. But the mags are heavy with rounds so it throws it into an odd balance. I don't mind it off, my lug does not have threads for a screw anyways because of 90s import laws. Thanks Ob...er...Clinton.

Should I get a Norinco SKS with a 16" or 20" barrel?

A lot of the SKS fans are Canadian, you can easily find them for $200 here and our economy is a lot different then America's economy. Almost everything here costs more then it costs in America.

If you have a wife and 2 kids you're not going to leave the store with less then about $300 worth of groceries for the week. That's if you eat healthy and don't walk out with junk.

>Better gun to innawoods with, since it won't be as scary to strangers.

That's not why.
It's because a lot states have mag-limits for hunting on public/private property; if you run around the woods with an AK and a 40rd mag the state police would go fucking apeshit and assume you are planning to kill more deer than your permit/tag allows.
>>
>>27841003
That's not a valid reason. They sell tiny AK mags.

SKS should be a more accurate and precise rifle. Given the longer and heavier barrel.
>>
>>27841003
...no... In Utah we have no mag limit. If I wanted I could hunt deer with a drum mag.

>>
>>27840625

>>
>>27841497
Sinobanians are what people call the recent beat to shit early Chinese Type 56s you can find on the market today becuase they were allegedly imported from Albania and sat in some warehouse here for years.

Some of them have russian parts on early chinese recievers. Some of them have actual sino-soviet serial numbers.
>>
>>27841465
>>27841497
Well thats a good question. It's from Arsenal 26, with a 4 digit Russian prefix serial number, first year production. So it is original Sino-Soviet.

Its also beat to hell, and when I bought it it was a recent import from InterOrdinance, still coated in cosmoline. It looks like either it was a drill weapon or a combat weapon from the Balkan conflicts.

It is a possibility that it was one of the rifles traded with the Albanians, I doubt there are many original Sino-Soviet guns left in China, almost all the Chinese import SKS's are Norinco made.
>>
>>27841402
Pretty good. I picked up a 1953 Tula last week. It was a display model so almost all of the cosmo was already gone. I'm taking it to the range for the first time this weekend. The price was 169.99, but I paid 139 taxes in. I cashed in my Canadian Tire money.
>>
>>27841621
actually, norinco doesn't make anything. Jianshe (arsenal 26), which was the first factory to make Chinese SKSe starting with the sino-soviets, along with other unknown factories, make guns and Norinco and Polytech (before it got closed) exported them.

The beat to shit Sinobanians were a big deal about 3 years ago becuase they were actually c&r unlike nirinco and polytech imports.

That's reassuring, because I'm also interested in the 2008 over other variations, but heard it was unreliable and whatnot. I still preserved because I love the innovations the Czechs put into the design.

Thanks for the assistance.

I wouldn't mind as much if someone made quality polymer mags but they seem to be the neglected stepchild of the 7.62x39 world

>>27843232
To be fair a lot of 5.56 rifles use STANAG mags so it is a bit disappointing that there isn't a source for cheap mags for the Vz, seems once surplus runs out there won't be anything affordable.

Good lord
>>
>>27839560

Hello komrades,
I've been doing some reading about early vs late Chinese sks manufacture and am trying to figure out if there is a discernable difference between the two. I know earlier models had screwed on barrels, more milled parts, etc, and this certainly lends itself to a sturdier build, but functionally and in terms of accuracy, is there a real difference? I read an account of one commercial sks owner who had fired an estimated 10k rounds over 20 years through his commercial and its still operating accurately.

The reason I ask is I have an opportunity to pick up a mint condition late manufacture Chinese sks. It has the orange mystery wood and spike bayonet, but is NIB. I currently own a beat up Arsenal 26 rifle that I am set to trade for a 1929 hex receiver mosin. I was never able to zero the arsenal 26 rifle and it always shot right and high, even after manipulating the front sight post. Its also got some pitting. Is it worth trading my beat up arsenal 26 for the nice mosin and picking up the mint commercial sks?

Also, I own a 1954 Tula sks but have continuing problems with the firing pin sticking. I've thoroughly cleaned it and oiled the pin, but it sticks nearly every range trip and slam fired a few times. It also shows heavy use; the hammer for example is dented in from striking the firing pin so many times. Is it possible to wear out an sks? I'm considering buying another Russian available locally so that I will always have one to use. My local gun store has 4 in stock. Any years or details to look for on a Russian that would make it more collectable or durable?

Thanks
>>
>>27847340

So. Quick question if anybody knows this.

I just picked up a mid 1964 produced arsenal 26 sks. It does not have a provision for a bayonet and it's marked with a "P" after the serial number.

Does anybody know what the P stands for and is the miss bayonet attachment related to this? It appears to be matching numbers minus the stock and the dust cover.

I looked there already. The only information was suggesting that the P stood for precision possibly during refurbishing but no one was too sure on it.

>Won't that rail obstruct shell ejection ?

It is hard to see with thati photo but bottom of the Magwedge rail that goes over the bolt is a brass deflector and has a fair bit of slope to it. Your brass bounces off it and flies to the right.

The photo doesn't show it but I put a little padded sticker (fluffy side of Velcro strip) on the underside of the rail when in use which makes the brass ejection a bit more quietly and also to prevent it from scratching up the anodizing on the rail. So far I have never had a case fall back into the action as the deflector seems to be doing it's job.

The Magwedge rail is from a different vendor than the Sabertooth stock itself.

For those who care, the magwedge rail mounts to the rear sight and it is adjustable so you can swing it up for easy cleaning. The rear mounting point is the hole where the original SKS dustcover pin lived. Mine uses an allen wrench screw on a pin, but there is a quick release pin you can use as well to make cleaning even easier. You just pull out the little stainless steel "grenade pin" to unlock it for cleaning (pic related).

Either way the magwedge rail locks up tight at the front and back and holds zero very well, and it is a handy brass deflector.

I emailed them and it costs 349 for the stock and 99 for the rail, shits redonk but beautiful
>>
>>27853246

That is Canadian money, so if you are american that 1.30 dollar goes pretty far. Still not for everyone.

As far as aftermarket rifle chassis go it is half the price of the equivalent product for other rifles. Any similar aluminum chassis for an M1A or a rem 700 would be $600-$900 and then you add AR furniture on top of that..

got a type 56 not too long ago

are there any /k/ approved detachable sights? Im all for keeping it as untacticool as possible, its a beautiful gun, but im curious.

See >>27850255 Brassstacker's nice but having the option for more than a 3x red dot is nice.

Say I could get a chink sks in good condition for 330$ or a yugo sks in good condition for 430$ what would be the best choice?
>>
>>27853662
Chink, always chink. Even Norinco commercials are better than yugos unless you have grenades to play golf with.

My $300 Chink /26\ letter gun from SOG.

Stock came beat to hell but covered in trench art. I love the carving but the finish was 80% gone.

All matching.

Bled out the cosmo and gave the stock a little love. Nothing drastic, no sandpaper. Actually I think it brought out the carving a little better.

Seems like a different wood than some other T56 I've held. Mechanically flawless, bluing is mostly intact.

Under the butt play was a piece of cloth with what certainly looks like a blood stain. I don't know what's up with that, but I imagine this gun could tell some stories.

I've never been more jelly of anything i,ve seen on /k/.

Ill just reassure myself that that had to be while i was still not of gun buying age.
