Swing and a miss

>msrp
It'll probably sell at $700-$800
>>
>>27802532
The rest of the P-series starts at $1015 MSRP for standard sights and $1108 for night sights, and they end up $800 and $900 respectively on the street, which means this starts at $900 as well.

Seriously?

Well are they are least P239 mags?
>>
>>27802565
See >>27802551

Higher MSRP than the rest of the P-series means higher street price

Given people have been buying P225s and P6s in great condition for $400-$500 for years I don't think many will swallow a $900 version which apparently uses proprietary magazines
>>
>>27802597
When was it originally made? Does that have any affect on the pricing?

Aboot 1975-2005. There are, or at least were as of a couple years ago, a ton of police tradeins and used P225s / P6s on the market for $400.

Made under contract for Mauser
Same size as the P239
Striker fired, the best SIG ever produced
held 10 rounds of .40S&W/.357SIG or 8 of .45
Rotating barrel

One of the best compact carry guns ever, and the shitpiles that took its place can't hold a candle to it.

Their older guns didn't back when they were all stamped carbon steel. When they started using milled stainless slides they made them slightly beefier, and its visible in the protrusions on the sides of the slide. For whatever reason they thought it was aesthetically pleasing to only put serrations on half of them.

Best example is that the old P228 has a slab slide. The P229 that replaced it does not.

Premium product attracts a premium price. They have other products in the range for customers who do not want to spend as much. Plus it is so much more expensive to make their hammer fired guns than their striker fired guns.

I've never heard of the P225. Is that a special snowflake version of the P220?

The P225 was the civilian version of the P6. It's a single-stack 9mm made for the West German police. Like a baby P220.

It's called the p224. It's a double stack sub-compact. I CC one. It's a great gun.

I heard really bad things about it.
>>
>>27805602
Name some or are you just repeating what someone else said on /k/ like a parrot?
>>
>>27805761
Not him, but the P224 is the most awkward-feeling and top heavy pistol I've ever handled. It just feels like a pistol that should not be. Haven't heard a bad word about function, it's just dozens of people saying it's awkward as fuck.
>>
>>27805761

Not that guy, but I've read a whole lot of shit. Sucks too, I really wanted a sig. I've seen a lot of complaints about failures to feed out of the box, a couple cases of magazines that flat out didn't work, one guy had the rear sight fall out when shooting. That shit turns me off of a $500 dollar gun, the fact that it's happening on a $900 dollar gun is bullshit. I'll stick with the CZ Rami if I want a working, metal, doublstack, subcompact.

Dealer here. Dropping some leaks
MAP (lowest price a dealer can sell for unless its a special holiday) is 930 for the B and 1030 for the BSS. Dealer pricing is 800ish for the B and 870ish for the BSS (assuming QTY of 1).

Both ship with 2 8 round mags
>>27806024
No SKUs for it in .40 yet so looks like no. 40 cal is shit anyway
>>27806026
Its 1/2 inch longer than a P239, so its borderline fullsize. Its also 1oz heavier than a p239
>>27806065
You mean the P220 Elite in 10mm?
>>
>>27806001
Yeah I demoed a p224 and it shot great but it is incredibly awkward. The grip is super bulbous I guess is the only way to describe like a 50W light bulb or something. It has so much potential but realistically I get the same if not better by putting my p320 compact slide onto my subcompact frame
>>
>be looking at spec sheet

Not buying this.
>>
>>27806075
Yeah one thing I don't get is that the 225a is 1/2" longer like you say but still uses a 239 barrel. Why wouldn't it use the m11a barrel?
>>
>>27806116

>>
>>27805314
Yeah, that sucks, but honestly I'm a lefty and have no real issues manipulating my two P-series Sigs
>>
>>27806104
You could have a custom shop increase it to 14-15lb if you are still uncomfortable about accidentally discharging

Why is SIG shit so overpriced compared to their competitors?

Yeah they make good guns but their quality is on par with CZ (lel @ their shit-tastic finishes) while Glock, HK, CZ, Walther, etc. makes comparable or superior products vastly cheaper.

>both DA/SA aluminum-framed full size pistols
>both the same fit/finish quality
>P226 $800
>92FS $550

seriously why
>>
>>27806154
What? It uses proprietary magazines. SIG has had not one, but TWO single stack 9mms (the original P225 and the P239), but has decided to sell this with unique magazines. That's the definition of proprietary.
>>
>>27806165

With Beretta it probably has something to do with them making guns for the military too, but I totally agree. I guess Sig was really good quality at one point but now it just seems like they're riding the brand name.
>>
>>27806075
No, I mean a P227 in 10mm.
I want (and most of the market wants) a high quality double stack 10mm.
If they can do a P220 in 10mm they can do it in a P227.

Seriously, if they announced tomorrow that they were releasing a 10mm P227 Stainless Steel Elite I would be first in line to make my credit card cry.

Pic semi-related as it's what I'm looking to purchase to fill this hole, but I would rather give my money to Sig.

I don't know why they are calling it the P225. They should just call it what it is: the P239-225A.

I see you've never handled either a Sig or a CZ.

Beretta is subsidized by the government.
>>
>>27806595
It's not backward compatible with old P225 mags and it's not compatible with P239 mags either. It does use the same mag body as the P239, but the magwell was too deep, so they had to add the retarded plastic spacer at the end.

why is Sig so god damn lazy
>>
>>27807155
Because they moved to America and got fat, stupid, and lazy.
They found a built-in market of consumer whores who would love them no matter what, so they just stopped trying.

I say this as an owner of a 1988 German made P226 which I absolutely love. The new ones are not even close to the same quality unless you pay out the nose for one of the X series guns.
>>
>>27809811

i have a 1990 P228 which i love myself, i don't like seeing all the corners Sig has been cutting with their new releases while riding on their classic P series designs
>>
>>27809811
I live in Australia so there's no such thing as not paying through the nose, regardless- so I bought an X series.
>>
>>27809837
I know right?
I've seen people with new Sigs make dumb comments about the old carbon steel slides, but the overall quality of the old German made guns is head and shoulders above the new ones.
My P226 is 26 years old, has had thousands of rounds down the pipe, and been carried a fair bit, but the slide rails are nearly pristine and it locks up tight as a drum.
This gun will outlast me by a mile, and that's the quality Sig used to represent.
Speaking of Sig shenanigans, I was about to go off on the new Legion super secret club gun bullshit, but I don't need to get totally riled up.

>>27809896
Good choice, the X series is really the only things Sig makes that are worth what they charge. Thei regularr guns are still good, but not like they used to be.

>Speaking of Sig shenanigans, I was about to go off on the new Legion super secret club gun bullshit, but I don't need to get totally riled up.

I was going to make a comment about their marketing too, but the truth is i wouldn't care what they did in that department as long as it felt like their R&D and QC were actually trying their best. I remember some interview snippet of Steve Jobs (I think) talking about how these old printer companies and IBM failed. They got complacent/cocky/greedy and put marketing people in charge in place of product people, so they were making a lot of noise and pretty packaging but the quality of their products went down and at the same time they got overtaken technologically by new competitors. You can sell Pepsi on marketing alone, but you can't do that with technology for very long. I'm scared that's what's been happening with Sig.

The Legion pistols are nice sure, but they're just regular Sigs with G10s, a Grayguns trigger package, Trijicon HD sights, and a grey finish with a ridiculous name. Trying to set hooks of brand loyalty into people with a transparent marketing strategy instead of doing naturally by having a superior product is a warning sign
>>
Lol, a single stack the size of a double stack for over a grand using a design from 20 years ago.
>>
>>27802583
Original mags were shit, official instructions were to down load the mag and switch mags often due to the feed lips getting bent outwards when fully loaded.
>>
>>27810067

Do you know if the X5 series is built to order or something similar? I never see any online or at the stores except those gross colored ones.
>>
>>27810752
I don't think they are built to order, it's just that production is very low. They make like twelve versions of each model, so I can't imagine that they have much manufacturing capability left for the X series due to it's high cost resulting in a limited consumer market.

TL;DR Sig makes too much stupid shit like tribal 226s to produce very many of the good expensive guns.
>>
>>27810574
You're absolutely right.
They make dozens of "limited" or "special" editions that are slight variations of the same things they have been making for decades.

Capitalism is often a race to the lowest acceptable quality. Why make it better if you don't have to? Spend some money on marketing or a ton on R&D? It's a no-brainer, but it's still disappointing.

Again I will say that new production Sigs are good guns, but they are not made to the same quality as in years past. They have too many models and sub variations of models in an attempt to have something for everyone instead oof making truly high quality products that sell themselves.

/old man rant
>>
>>27810842
I've always had this feeling. They have like 50 different p226's and it confused the shit out of me at first
>>
>>27810658
>design from 20 years ago

40 years
>>
I never figured Sig would use a magazine not compatible with the original 225. That is crazy. Increased mag availability was the only thing I was looking forward to with the launch of the new 225. So much for that.

People who bag on metal framed single stack 9mm pistols are usually living the lie.
>>
>>27802504
Guns with as many MIM parts and such a spotty QC history shouldn't command the price SIGs generally do.
