53.7 billion for 55
41 A, 26 for US
12 B
2C

$98 million average without engine
Probably 93 for the A's. 105 for the C's. And 110 for the B's. This a mostly A buy.

WASHINGTON — Contracts worth $5.37 billion have been awarded to Lockheed Martin to produce 55 Lot IX F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, the Pentagon announced Tuesday evening.

A total of 41 F-35A conventional ground-based aircraft were ordered, including 26 for the US Air Force, six for Norway, seven for Israel and two for Japan.
Twelve F-35B Short Takeoff and Vertical Landing aircraft were ordered, six for the US Marine Corps and six for the United Kingdom.
Another two F-35C carrier-based variants were ordered for the US Navy.
The aircraft are to be delivered by December 2017, according to a Pentagon contract announcement.

About what was expected. Minor cost reductions. We will see what full production brings.
>>
>>27790979

You realize they're going to buy 2500 fighters, right? A starting price of $98 mil for the first 55 with plenty of room to still go down isn't bad at all.

For those autistic cost lovers, like me.

Last contract was 98 million per F-35 A average, and 94.3 million average for America. It's likely closer to 95 and 92 now.

Pic related for the other costs. I think I got the B and C mixed up in my OP.
>>
F-35 FUCKING REKT

RAFALE CONFIRMED CHEAPER
>>
>>27791004
How much do you think the Rafale costs?
>>
>>27790991
Your choice of words shows that you already are biased towards this aircraft. Hear me out. I have no care for this aircraft since I'm from Canada.

The last contract was 103 million average. They also ordered fewer B's and C's in that contract.
In one year they dropped average cost by 5 million. Most of the savings are because the B has gotten cheaper.

They have two years to find 7-8 million savings on the A. It's plausible for sure, but it's gonna be a stretch considering FRP is only ordering 90 A's and easy savings have been had.
>>
>>27791013
Don't eat the bait.
>>
>>27791013
Rafale C is $94mil flyaway

Without the Snecma M88-2 engines (each costing $8mil) the Rafale C is $74mil

F-35 is going to have a hard time beating that
>>
>>27791070
But French asks a lot more if you want to import Rafales.
http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/frances-rafale-fighters-au-courant-in-time-05991/

The deal is thought to bring the per-unit cost of the Rafale to around $220 million, far below the approximate $300 million pricetag which became the death-knell for the Indian negotiations with Dassault. The recently announced Qatari order saw a comparable cost of $290 million per aircraft.
>>
>>27791083
That's their poor exportation choice then

Dassault's offer to France is cheaper than LM's offer to USA
>>
>>27791083
That's mostly because they can get a deal for that price.

The Rafale/Typhoon/any 4++ gen aircraft's price is always flawed.

The dev costs, engine costs, armament costs are always either included or not based upon if you like it.

The F-35 A is very similar to these planes with Dev, engine, and armament costs.
But it's a little better.
>>
>>27790979

Is this the cost for LRIP models or full FOC versions?
>>
>>27791135
Given that the purchase is in the dozens rather than thousands, I'd take a wild guess and say lrip
>>
>>27791101
The dev costs are what makes that number likely higher in reality.
That's partly why export sales are higher, and partly it's because France will sell to anyone (unless it's the Russians hahaha bye bye future purchases)
>>
>>27790991
US isn't going to buy 2500 fighters. We don't even have 2,000 F18s, and those get a shit ton of use. We'll end up buying ~200 like we did the F22 and then trash the project.
>>
>>27791135
FRP isn't until 2018.

FRP is around 100 per year compared to the 55 of today. So we are getting there.

LM has to fine 7-8 million in cost savings on the A platform come three contracts from now. (LRIP 10 and 11 and then FRP 1) they will order about twice as many A's in 2018.
>>
>>27791143
Thanks.
>Given that the purchase is in the dozens rather than thousands, I'd take a wild guess and say lrip

But we don't know how much it will cost to convert a LRIP model to FOC and therefore those cost estimates are low and inaccurate.
>>
How much is the engine going to cost? That seems like a big thing to not include in per unit cost.
>>
>>27791143
We aren't purchasing thousands at a time in FRP but I get what you mean.
>>
>>27791157
We don't know yet. It's hard to know the true costs, but it's also hard to know the true Typhoon/Rafale costs.

They were average 20 million ABC in 2014. Of course with A being cheaper.

A FRP 1 A will likely cost 86 million airframe 10 million engine and 20-30 million for dev costs over 3000 total aircraft. So like 125 million per A for the total F-35A (B and C I don't know) program cost divided by airplanes.
>>
Did the Marine Corp damage its honor by declaring an unfit B ready for IOC when it was no such thing? It was declared IOC purely for political and LM purposes and not because it was ready.
>>
>>27791176
Does the engine on the B include the cost of the lift fan system?

I'm posting this from inside a clean room at a semiconductor manufacturer. My life is pretty darn interesting.

>We don't even have 2,000 F18s, and those get a shit ton of use.

The F-35 isn't just replacing the Legacy Hornet.
>>
>>27791070
>F-35 is going to have a hard time beating that

Except for you know in the sky where it kills the Rafale and doesn't get damaged.
>>
>>27791147
Nigga is you retarded?
>>
>>27791192
Why do you think you know more than the Marine Corp? The Marine Corp says it's fit, therefore it's fit.

Bet you're one of those chucklefucks who said the Osprey wasn't ready too.
>>
>>27791703
Do you think the marine corp is going to make a political reason to kill their baby?

Let's see how many nations order it.
And are they actually IOC if the coding and helmets are not?
>>
>>27791147
We have about 1200 F-16s in active service, you dunce, and the Air Force wants enough built over the lifecycle to replace that and have spares.
>>
>>27791769
>Do you think the marine corp is going to make a political reason to kill their baby?
How would that possibly kill it? The only ones who ever planned on buying the B were the Marines and RAF, delaying it would not effect those orders one bit.
>are they actually IOC if..
Yes, they literally are.
>>
>>27791147
The US currently operates ~2000 F-16 and F-18 fighters between the USAF USN and USMC.
>>
>>27792482
And the USMC needs the 360 Bs to relieve the Harrier fleet, with was a production run of 337.
>>
>>27791769
IOC means limited and initial operations are possible, not that it is completely ready

it just means that it's ready for some missions
>>
>>27793199
And at this point the USMC wants them in an actual unit's hands so they can start building SOPs and tactics around it, since it's not quite as direct an upgrade like the A and C are.
>>
>>27791680
This, precisely. I hope the Rafale is wildly successful as an export...especially to America's enemies.
