It took me here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AR-15

And it says:

Manufacturers:

ArmaLite, Colt, Bushmaster, Rock River Arms, Stag Arms, DPMS Panther Arms, Ruger, Olympic Arms, DSArms, Palmetto State Armory,[1] Spike's Tactical,[2] and others.

so was Colt the original manufacturer of AR rifles or not?
>>
>>27786635
it was [AR]malite
>>
>>27786635
No, Others was the first manufacturer.
>>
>>27786635
Goddamn.

AR-15 means Armalite Rifle, Model 15. Armalite was first.
>>
>>27786635
The rifles are designated "AR"

Let's figure this mystery out. Together

You know you're wrong... right?

Its ArmaLite
>>
>>27786657
>>27786670
ArmaLite designed the rifle, that doesn't mean they manufactured it.
>>
>>27786648
AR is actually just short for the first two letters of ArmaLite. There are AR pistols, and I'm not talking bout AR-15 pistols either.

He's a moron, Colt is fine. I'd personally build it myself but that's just me.
>>
>>27787533

Nope, build it. Get a chunk of aluminum, a pipe, and a drill. Figure the rest out.

>>27787539

They're not. I'm not saying they're bad, they're just not good. Like you said, they're fine. But you can get a lot better for the money, their ARs survive on their name.

He's referring to how after Sandy Hook there was large influx of new users, who were mentally deficient.
>>
>>27787499
Colt isn't great desu. Plus, they're a company that relies on gov't contracts and treats the civilian market as an afterthought, which has lead them to financial trouble. Not a company you should support.

Absolute Rekage? The 15 is because it took 15 iterations to get it right, sorta like with WD 40.
>>

armalite you fucking tard.
>>
>>27787499
Because their designs aren't really with the standards that people expect, they're way too expensive, and the company filed chapter 11 bankruptcy this year. As for going with an Armalite, people said not to because it's not the same anymore, but IIRC Windham Weaponry is made up of many former Armalite workers.

There might be some Armalite workers there, but it was a former Bushmaster factory.
>>
Most folks knows Apple computers started in a California garage. Less well known: the modern small arms industry was born the same way. “America’s rifle,” the AR-15, owes it genesis to not one but two post-War California aircraft company employees and backyard gunmakers: Eugene Stoner, Design Engineer for Whittaker, and George Sullivan, Chief Patent Counsel for Lockheed. When Sullivan convinced the gun enthusiast running Fairchild Engine & Airplane Corporation to set-up ArmaLite, Stoner and his patents formed the basis of the new venture. The California-dreamin’ start-up applied advanced aeronautic plastics and alloy technology to the business of making guns.
>>
The original plan: hunting rifles. After the AR-5 found favor with the military, Stoner and his crew set their sights on the Big Kahuna. In 1955, the Army was looking to replace the M1 Garand with the Springfield Armory T-44 (an updated Garand) and the T-48 (a version of the FN FAL).
>>
Stoner’s AR-10 was a revolution. It featured an integral carrying handle with an internal charging handle mounted within. Because the bolt locked into a steel extension on the barrel, not the receiver itself, the AR-10 could be built with aircraft-grade aluminum receivers. Where the T-44 and T-48’s stock and other furniture were wood, the AR-10’s was plastic. The gun weighed less than seven pounds.
>>
What does building your own rifle mean? That you buy every part separately from different manufacturers?
>>
>>27787621
Ah, thank you. Forgot the history of who they originally came from.
>>
In the end, the AR-10 didn’t make the cut. The T-44 was adopted as the M-14 rifle in 1959. The AR-10 fell victim to its own weaknesses (normal in early models of any product), prejudice within the Army Ordnance Corps, and the other rifle makers’ political juice. So Armalite scaled down the original AR-10 design and built a lighter and smaller second gen AR-15 in 5.56 x 45mm caliber. Ultimately, Stoner’s bosses sold the design to Colt Industries.
>>
>>27787654
Pretty much. Most parts for the AR (the lower receiver, upper, barrel, bolt carrier group, stock, etc.) are all standardized parts so you can put parts from different manufacturers together as long as the specs are correct.
>>
>>27787654
>That you buy every part separately from different manufacturers?
Yes. Sometimes you buy an 80% lower and mill it out, but mostly it's just lego
>>
After a fortuitous luncheon meeting and a product demo (blasting watermelons), General Curtis LeMay of the USAF ordered 15,000 of these “cute” little AR-15 rifles for the USAF. Over 10,000,000 M-16s/M4s/AR-15s later, provided by a number of different USGI approved manufacturers, the AR family of weapons is to the free world what the Avtomat Kalashnikova (AK) series of weapons is to many of the bad guys we face on the world’s battlefields: the symbol of what we stand for.
>>
The AR-series of weapons is also one of the longest running American service rifles (killing bad guys since 1966) in history. It’s still going strong with its latest variant, the M4. But that’s the subject for another story.
>>
>>27786645
Technically it was Armalite Rifle
>>
>>27787676
>>27787678

Thanks.
>>
>>27787727
Tell that to their cz75 copies.
>>
>>27787548
>Like you said, they're fine.

Backpedaling much?

>>27787727
It's for the first two letters of ArmaLite.
>>
>>27786699
AR7 - AR18 were rifles so, no. AR stands for Armalite Rifle.
>>
>>27787798

Not at all. They're not bad. They're also not at all good. You can do so much better.
>>
>>27787808
Show me somethin then, I do know the Colt name carries a bit of price to it, but it's not like you're being straight up gouged for going with it.
>>
>>27787806
So AR only applies for those few guns? The AR-24 pistol in the other post doesn't count? Or the AGL BFAs they also prefixed with AR don't count either?
>>
>>27787554
>Implying most 4chan users aren't already mentally deficient
>>
>>27787806
What are you retarded, the link that shows the AR24 is right in that post lol. It stands for Armalite.
>>
>>27787533

Build - to make (something) by putting together parts or materials
>>
>>27787758
You mean Armalite redux.

I'm talking about the original company that produced rifle designs. Not the current incarnation that is only an old name on a new company.

AR24 indeed.
>>
>>27787758
Or their earlier shotgun.

>>27787806
AR17 is pic related
>>
>>27787929
You got me on the shotgun.

But the rest were rifles.

So Armalite rifle - 7 through 16. And 18.

There were no Armalite pistols.
>>
>>27787919
You mean the original company that designed the AR17 shotgun?
>>
Only faggots dont have an armalite AR
>>
>>27787957
AR9 was also a shotgun and AR13 was an anti-air gun.
>>
>>27786629

As far as bulk orders go? Probably.

The first few batches and examples used by Green Berets probably came straight from ArmaLite, though...
>>
>>27787929
That thing is fuckin' beautiful.
>>
Just build your own AR then when you realize you hate the a2 stock grip sights and you want a different trigger pull or the 16" barrel isn't for you or everything else about the stock ARs you don't have to spend extra money to fix it
>>
try
BCM
Noveske
Daniel Defense
If you want a good no fuss upper

The lower doesn't matter as long as its mil spec and bushnells sells Bushmaster lowers for dirt cheap I have one and a bushmaster parts kit with a wilson combat trigger and I've had no problems with it.

I also have a noveske lower and no doubt its sexier its not a noticeable difference for someone who isn't trying to remake a MK 12 mod 0.
