YJ-18 would be 290 nmi ranged (about 537 km) and would utilize a subsonic low-altitude cruise and a supersonic Mach 3 terminal dash trajectory. It also is capable of using waypoints and terminal evasive maneuverings.

Most closely guarded secrit missile ever?

There are talks about the YJ-18 for years, but a high res picture has yet to surface.

And that one screengrab doesnt look like the Club at all. Not even remotely, which is far longer and thinner.

More like China just didn't feel like shilling it until now that they have a video of a successful demonstration.

The YJ-12 was rumored and talked about since like late 90s to 2000 or something.

First pic wasnt leaked until 2012, and missile wasnt officially disclosed until 2015 with the military parade.

This is how Chinese weapon disclosals work. Instead of LM shilling 20 years in advance for their next generation ultra super duper lemon fighter, China always likes to pretend that the most modern shit they have are J-7s and Type 59s, while in fact they are testing weapons that are roughly 3 generations more advanced but might only be disclosed to the public 10 years after they are in service.
>>
>>27784906
The Klub had a 15% failure rate when Russia launched against ISIS last month. I wonder what percentages we'll see from the YJ-18 if it ever comes on line. Given China's notorious QC problems, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1/3 failure rate.

How many Chinese rockets blew up in the last few years?

Zero?
Historically?
13 (partitial) failures out of hundreds of launches, with only one catastrophic explosion in 1996.

How many american rockets?

Innumerable. Not even counting joke-missions liek SpaceX kek.

China knows their shit with missiles and rockets. More than America.

A 5000 years old civilization that had a pacifist culture and a society that deemed soldiers and generals as lowest of the low, got themselves invaded and raped repeatedly by warrior cultures and imperialists, and hence fell behind them in a century of weakness and humiliation.

This tells you about why China nowadays must be extremely aggressive and strong, since the world belongs to those who kill and rape others, as they have learned it in the hard way.

Dont cry when Philippines gets it first. The weak only deserve to die and get eaten by the strong.

>>
>>27785417
The amount of armor it would take to defend against a missile or torpedo is just too much to make it worth it. The alternative would be composites like you see on a tank, but making an entire ship hull like that would be stupid expensive and still pretty pointless. It simply isn't worth it
>>
>>27785246
We're not talking about rockets, we're talking about cruise missiles. That QC problem carries over even into your shitposting.

Why would you even mention SpaceX? That's a civilian outfit. That's like pointing at a 737 crash and going all "Hurr, Osprey a shit".

It's easy to have a low failure rate when you don't do any R&D. The downside to that is, you'll always be at least a generation behind on deployed systems.

Having VLS launched AShM really is a game-changer. A 64 cell Type 052D could theoretically have 64 vertical launched AShM, while a 128 VlS cell Type 055 could have 128 of these terminal supersonic AShMs.

Sure beats those old ass 8xcell slanted cannisters some US/Japanese destroyers still sail around with.

Sure, the US Burkes and Ticos will soon have LRASM, which is also VLS-based, but those do lack the supersonic terminal stage (but have stealth - which is questionable at WVR, not to say that the Klub also is fairly stealthy during sea-skimming cruise stage) and will also reserve a large number of their VLS cells for air- and missile defense missiles, since they have to protect the carriers from ASBMs the entire time. And ASROC as well, since they would fear Chinese SSKs operating in the area.
>>
>>27785505
No, MacArthur made a lot of very bad calls on his own initiative. He put up all his aircraft in the air at once rather than rotate them, so they all had to land to refuel and got destroyed on the ground. Also, the original Army strategy to defend the Philippines was to allow the Japanese to take the minor islands and retreat to the more important ones where the US could concentrate its relatively low troop strength. Instead, MacArthur thought it was a good idea to spread his troops thin to try and defend every inch of Philippine coastline and ended up practically handing all his supplies to the Japanese when his overstretched forces couldn't hold the beaches.

>>27785759
You're kinda ignoring the 60-90 Super Hornets/F-35Cs with E-2 and Growler support that will be actively hunting the Chinese fleet.
>>

>You're kinda ignoring the 60-90 Super Hornets/F-35Cs with E-2 and Growler support that will be actively hunting the Chinese fleet.

If they ever dare to get into range, that is.

because the DF-21D and especially the DF-26 outranges them by quite a margin.
>>
>>27785844
>because the DF-21D and especially the DF-26 outranges them by quite a margin.

There's still no indication that China has a reliable enough killchain to find and target a CBG for a ASBM strike, assuming they can even get through its ABM defenses.
>>
>>27785759
>will also reserve a large number of their VLS cells for air- and missile defense missiles

As any destroyer should be doing, especially against the air-centric US.

>>
>>27785870
Killchain is actually OK. China's sending dozen of satellites into orbit every other month since at least 10 years.

Question is rather whether China has enough ASBMs to saturate the US CVBG.

Last estimate of DF-21D was around 60 missiles. China would need at least 120 for a single US CVBG, assuming that every second SM-3 and SM-6 that can be launched in that timeframe from them being detected by radar to hitting the carrier/escorts will be a hit against an ASBM, while a number of ASBMs get spoofed by ECM.

CMANO wise, I could sink the carrier with 120 ASBMs. But that's also because the ASBM in that simulation had 1970s era of radar guidance and no terminal evasive maneuverings.

So, conservatively, I'd say that they could make do with 80-100 ASBMs per carrier group.

Satellites are not good enough for a DF-21 killchain.
>>
>>27785971

SAR/NOSS/EO sats may help find the CVBG at sea but I have a hard time believing they could provide sufficient resolution to target with a conventional warhead. Nuclear should be good to go though.

satellite cannot provide real time guidance to ballistic missiles. Sure, they can tell you where the carrier WAS, assuming you even know the right patch of water to point your satellite at, and if it happens to get its timing right considering its in orbit around the earth and constantly moving.

Also, it's not like people haven't figured out how to time their activities to avoid being seen by satellite passes, considering they all have to follow predictable flight paths. That's why satellite surveillance has largely only been good for taking photos of static positions.
>>
>>27786028
+OTH radars, UAVs and MPAs are all part of the chill-chain.

>>27786679
NOSS is capable of detecting moving targets and it was used as such during cold war, as well as recent maritime excercises. It all depends on the number of satellites passing each given sector. And the satellites themselves have a huge coverage as well (approx. 600 nmi around each of them), which means that even as they pass the target, they will be able to track its movement within that radius for a time.
>>
>>27785267

>he thinks orbital rocket launches can be done on the down low

top kek
>>
>>27785759
Please do load your Type 52s and Type 55s with nothing but AShMs. That'll make them even easier to sink.
>>
>>27786771

>OTH
I'd rank this on par or lower than sat data. Unusable for targeting but you can get assets on it for targeting

>UAV
Definitely reliable targeting method, question is if they can find the CVBG and remain undetected/survive in the SAM/CAP environment long enough to provide enough targeting data. Great bonus if the asset is VLO

>MPAs
Same as UAVs but probably more likely to be detected by radar/IR. Maybe less likely to be found by their own emissions.

>NOSS
Depending on the EMCOM levels of the CVBG. If they aren't radiating, don't expect to find them that way. I wish I could find it again but there was a great write up on a naval exercise practicing attack runs on the north of Russia by two CVBGs. One under EMCOM, the other radiating freely. The Russians harassed the one they could find...

This is the closest thing I could find, I'm reading it now

https://www.usnwc.edu/getattachment/bfd7502d-682c-444d-946c-63245227ae68/Hiding-in-Plain-Sight--The-U-S--Navy-and-Dispersed

>CMANO wise, I could sink the carrier with 120 ASBMs

Well, COD wise, I could take out all 120 of your ASBMs with 60 neckbeards and 12 online helicopters. I know people who are wicked good at the game.
>>
Impressive

Clearly demonstrates China's capability to defend itself from war mongering nations. It seems it cannot be stopped by other nations.

No Klub was launched last month.
>>
>>27787334
Good point. Kalibrs, then. Of which the Klub is the export version. So, assuming that the monkey model will be less reliable than the home team version, and also assuming that the YJ-18 is a Chinese copy of the export version, I believe that we could expect close to a 50% failure rate.

Chinese paid internet posters are a figment of American imagination. It is only right for Chinese righteous and dignified internet heroes to defend Chinese honor with blood, sweat and tears. China has long been associated with words like Dignity, Honor and Respect for Intellectual Property Rights. A person that is borne from such quality and morality will have no choice but have overwhelming moral high ground compared to such individuals that were once slaves. When a person speaks of China, that person speaks of Freedom and Independence.

The satellite location data doesn't necessarily have to be 100% finessed guidance people here seem to be assuming. ASBMs should have a cross range ability up to 100 kilometers, and can be guided in terminal phase by ballistically-delivered sensor packages accompanying, or sent ahead/behind the missiles as part of a swarm attack. Same idea as the old Soviet AShM swarm approach, done partly for stealth reasons, but partly also for fine-tuning target guidance. Enough of them and they could act like a kind of mini-GPS constellation and prove the spatial analysis entirely between themselves, I don't know if that is necessary though.
